Q. A friend's 50 year old amazon is keeping one of his eyes closed. Will open it up If she picks him up. What could be causing this? .

Answered By

A. Eye infections or injuries to the eye itself may be causing the eye to stay closed. You may also see discharge from the eye that is green or yellowish if infection is present. Birds are very good at hiding illness, so if he is showing any other signs of illness in addition to the closed eye, it is best to bring him into a local avian vet for care.
