Q. Cat and I are staying about 6 mos with 2 crazy dogs and he hates them. What can I do so that the cat doesn't have to be locked in a room all the time?

Answered By

A. If the dogs are antagonizing the cats, the cat may be fearful and reacting or naturally if the cat has not been around dogs much he will want to protect himself. This will require careful management of all involved. The dogs should not be allowed to chase the cat and should be rewarded for calm behaviors even if this means leashing them indoors with the owner holding the leash and asking for a sit when they see the cat. Immediately praise and reward the dogs for sitting and being calm around kitty. As for the cat, there should be a cat tree and ledges of safe spaces created for the kitty. Cats feel safer when they can observe from up high so it's important he has spaces all his own that he can feel comfortable. Good luck!
