Q. My female westie is 15 and has kidney disease. She's now on a renal diet, are there any treats suitable for a dog with kd?

Answered By

A. Ideally you should avoid food that contains salts and high levels of protein. So, a renal diet is a good choice.

Regarding treats, I would use apple or carrot bits, for example. Small balls of boiled rice (without salt) can also be a good alternative. I suggest you avoid chicken and cheese, as they are high in protein and can contain salt.

I hope that helps!
