Q. My 5 mo. Staffie puppy's hair is thinning on the top of her head in between her ears. Is this normal?

Answered By

A. It depends on how quickly this "thinning" happened. Was it like one week it was perfectly fine, and the next week it was very thin? If so, it could be fleas, or something else, and you may want to set up an appointment with the vet to be sure. If it has just been thinning and thinning slowly over time, it could be a dietary issue. You may not be feeding a high enough quality kibble. You may want to switch to a kibble like Taste of the Wild, Orijen, Ziwipeak, Honest Kitchen, Fromm - just make sure you are feeding the "puppy food" specifically. A higher quality kibble may fill in those thinning areas a bit.

Staffie's have very very short hair, and bald/thinning spots are not uncommon.
