Q. 11y.o. Chihuahua. She is missing a little hair on her ears and it looks like the skin is patchy. Also on her leg joints. What can we do.

Answered By

A. Patchy skin can be caused by parasites, hormonal disorders, or allergies. A physical exam is necessary for a proper diagnosis. I recommend taking her to a veterinary dermatologist. The appointment will likely be more expensive up front, but you'll also be more likely to get the right answer now quickly. In the meantime, if you don't have your dog on flea and tick prevention, start that. Revolution is a good one that covers many parasites.
