For an emergency hospital, they are first rate. They are easy to find, right off of I-95 in Newport, DE. On the few occasions I have had to use them, either with one of my own pets, or with one of our rescue foster dogs, the wait is minimal. Sometimes I have called them at 11pm at night with an issue, and the emergency vet or one of his staff will take the time to listen to the dilemma and help me weigh the pros and cons of bringing in a pet now vs waiting til my regular vet hospital opens in the morning. \r\n\r\nAs a specialty hospital, they have first rate veterinary specialists on staff who have been there on staff for many years. My diabetic dog, Duncan, had successful cataract surgery performed there by Dr. Bowersox a year and a half ago. As with any dog who has eye surgery, Duncan has follow-up appointments every few months. Dr. Bowersox knows Duncan by nickname, and his technicians all dote on him and pamper him when he is being examined. \r\n\r\nThey know how to turn around a stressful situation and make a dog feel at ease. One of our rescue dogs had had a tricky femoral head/neck ostectomy AND a knee procedure done at the same time by Dr. DiNardo a year ago and she recouped wonderfully from that (tricky in that one procedure requires rest while recouping while the other procedure requires movement while recouping). \r\n\r\nAnd if you ever need to take a pet there to end that pet's suffering, the staff is very compassionate and will give you all the time you need in order to say goodbye.\r\n\r\nOwners with decent credit whose pets require expensive surgery can apply for Care Credit, which is accepted at Veterinary Specialty Center. \r\n\r\nThe front desk staff is wonderful to deal with - very friendly, compassionate and caring. All my visits to VSC have overall been very good, or very calming/comforting when I have had to put an elderly, sick pet down.\r\n\r\nThey are the only emergency hospital in New Castle County, Delaware that I will use, and I have used others in the past.\r\n

Sometimes the wait to see a specialist is over 20 minutes
