I brought a kitten in to their facility. Out of 5 kittens I had found homes for 4. This 5th kitten was refusing to use a litter box and trashing my home. I had a toddler at that time and could not have kitty messes on our carpet. I had tried several different techniques to get this kitten litter trained; all had failed. The other 4 kittens were fully litter trained without an issue. We had a brother and sister that mated prior to their vet appointment. He was able to keep his appointment. She had ripped up our new linoleum trying to get at him and to my knowledge had not succeeded, obviously I was wrong! The person at the counter was short and rather condescending.

    Pros

    accepted a kitten

    Cons

    poor customer sevice

Not too long ago the good people at this facility gave staff members from the Potsdam Humane Society a tour of their operation. They were very pleasent and quite willing to share the pros and cons related to their facility expansion.

    Pros

    Liked the cat pods

    Cons

thought there should be more outdoor runs attached to the dog kennels

  • 7. They truly care

    by: adoney98

I have not personally adopted a pet from there, but have visited several times to see if I could match up with one of the animals there. Everything was clean and the animals were very well cared for. What I really love about the SPCA(Jefferson County) is how far above and beyond that they go to provide funding for this organization. They are always on the radio and news talking about the animals and the need for funding. They also come up with new and exciting ideas for the fundraisers that they do. Things that people actually want to participate in and be involved. Not the typical bake sale etc. Just an A+ effort all around!

    Pros

    kind, compassionate, knowledgable staff

    Cons

    very small space

    by: beaglemom

We have two SPCA dogs. I adopted Jett in 1997 (border collie mix) and Bella (beagle) just last fall. Our beautiful girls (we have all boy human kids so our dogs are girls) are our sweethearts. They are both just wonderful loving dogs. I think they "know" we saved them and they are just the love of our lives. \r\n\r\nps they are kinda spoiled

    Pros

I think they really care about their animals

  • 17. beautiful facility

    by: JCSPCAVet

I toured this facility a few years ago when they were finishing up building the new shelter. It is beautiful, and I wish all shelters could have the resources to have such a facility and the level of staffing. Hats off to them for pursuing all of the connections they have made with Cornell to help with their vet care and with other facilities that can take some of their overflow, and for creating such a great volunteer base.

    Pros

    great facility

    Cons

    none
