  • 1. Nice place

    by: kbehrendt

I think this is a great humane society, I almost adopted a dog from here, but they took him off the website the same day, and I later found out he hadn't even been adopted :(. Anyways...It's a small building, but very clean and well kept, and the animals appear healthy and very well taken care of. They keep less animals than the WI Humane Society in Milwaukee, but I noticed that the staff really seemed to know each animal's personality very well, and they were highly dedicated to making a good match, rather than just adopting out animals as fast as they could.

    Pros

    Clean, knowledgeable staff

    Cons

    small

  • 2. WCHS ia FAMILY to so many ANIMALS

    by: Tango14

To Whom it may concern, The WCHS is a wonderful place they do everything they can for the animals. I worked at a Vet clinic in the area and saw how much they care and do for Animals that come in abandon, injured, and lost. They put the aniaml first always. I have adopted animals from WCHS and the staff there is so wonderful they call and check on the animals that are adopted out. For what funds they have they do an excellent job with the animals lives. They could so use this to make the Shelter up to date for the animals. It would be so wonderful to see the shelter expanded so they could house more animals that need shelter. To be able to have better facility for the cats to play and a nice fenced yard for the dogs to run and play in to be safe until they find there forever home. I really think that the look of shelter does help with people adopting an animal also. I actually had clients tell me that they wouldn't adopt an animal from WCHS because they drove by and the outside of the building looks rough. My answer was it's not the outside it's the feeling you get when your inside you can see and feel how much everyone there loves each animal and they are willing to help you find that new family member for you. Please consider the Washington County Humane Society for this MAKEOVER they so desearve it in more words than I can tell you in this letter. Thanks again and we appreciate everything you have done for all these shelters and animals. GOD BLESS THE ANIMALS.

    Pros

They put there best into protecting the ANIMALS

    Cons

They do there best with what they have

  • 3. Washington Co Humane Society Cares

    by: Judes

Picture an elderly widow with her best friend - an overweight 15 year old poodle named Bingo with heart problems resulting in a bad cough. When the widow died, Bingo is lost - his trusted friend is gone and who will care for him, especially with the health problems he had? The widow's family entrust this guy to the Washington County Humane Society in Slinger, Wisconsin. While many would have given up on Bingo, the people at Washington County Humane Society saw something in his eyes that say be patient - there will be someone out there who will love me until my last breath. Three months passed and everyone seemed to overlook this elderly, overweight, depressed little dog - but the staff at Washington County did not give up ... in their hearts, they knew the right family would come along. Thank goodness they held on because that is when we found Bingo and he became a member of our family. We knew our time would be too short with him but Bingo made sure to give us every ounce of love he could in the wonderful year we had him. He taught us about unconditional love, patience, understanding aging and enjoying slow walks, soaking up every bit of nature we could. We are better people because Bingo was in our lives. We can never thank Washington County Humane Society enough for not giving up on him. The love and compassion they show the animals entrusted to them is amazing and this make-over can help them help so many more animals - and in turn help so many more people learn the true meaning of unconditional love. Please vote for Washington County Humane Society in Slinger, WI.

    Pros

  • 4. WCHS Makeover

    by: crttrs

The Washington County Humane Society. Words cannot truly express the love and admiration felt in my heart for this shelter, the staff, the animals and all those involved. My involvement with this organization goes back many years, about 6 or 7 maybe. The amount of time no longer mattered as it became a part of my daily thoughts and life. It has touched my heart and has brought tremendous joy beyond words. My life has been blessed. (Thank you WCHS, it is because of all of you.) The staff, I truly admire and have tremendous respect and love for. Each and every staff member plays a special, valuable and important role in the daily operation of the shelter. They are an outstanding team who provide exceptional care and work with caring hearts and loving hands. I can’t express enough about the tremendous work they all do. Every animal that passes through the shelter doors is provided equal love, care and respect. Their every need will be provided and every opportunity given. These animals are provided a home, a family and treated as such during their stay at the shelter. Be it with animals, with customers, whatever the task or undertaking, the dedication, love and passion of this group is outstanding and beyond words. I am proud of what they do. And I am proud to represent the shelter and everything about it. Our community is growing. Animal stray and surrender numbers keep increasing. More space, repairs, updates, etc. are needed to continue the wonderful work, care and services provided by WCHS. Winning the shelter makeover would truly be a blessing. It would allow the staff to continue the wonderful and exceptional work they currently already do, it would provide the opportunity to build and grow. It would allow the shelter to take that next step up to the next level of providing even more and better. It would open up many new doors and avenues for the community, the staff, the shelter and most importantly the animals. WCHS is truly deserving. Again, words cannot truly express enough about this admirable organization. Thank you for providing this wonderful opportunity to all shelters. What a blessing this will be for whichever shelter wins. Truly a dream come true.

    Pros

  • 6. Ups & downs of Washington Cty. Humane Soc.

    by: wruhl

Finding space to meet with perspective pets for adoption was hard to find-everything was filled with items and people. The areas for the cats was noisy with the dogs barking, making the the cats/kittens a bit panicky. Just too much all together in one large space. People were kind and helpful doing the best they can - but the barking dogs (which I love all of them) made it hard to have any conversation at all. I have brought in found kittens, and have also adopted from them, and do support them with small donations. They need space and modernizing. Thankful to have them in my community.

    Pros

Have great luck & knowlege matching families with pets

    Cons

The building, atmosphere is a tough to take

  • 7. The Makeover Competition

    by: lovepink899

The Washington County Humane Society's Staff is great. They have great people there who are caring for all their animals. I think they should defenitly win the makeover competition because they deserve it. They are so caring for all animals and need more room and could use a makeover. I got my dog from this humane society and he is the greatest dog ever. The Washington County Humane Society should win this competion because they do so many great things for animals and give them a great temporary home until they get adopted.

    Pros

    Great Staff

    Cons

Doesnt Have a lot of room for animals

  • 8. Need Help Now

    by: alyssa3212

I am a resident of Slinger Wisconsin and the closest rescue center for pets near my town is the Washington County Humane Society. I use to volunteer here and everyone is loving and care about the animals they are taking care of. they are dedicated knowledgable people willing to do whatever it takes to give every animal a great home...The only problem is that they dont have enough money to fix up there falling apart work area. they are a non-profit organization and use there extra donated money to buy things for the animals. Medication doesnt come cheap and thats what most of there money goes to. They have rusty sinks and cracked walls. The animals need a better place to stay until they find a great loving home. They deserve the money because they try so hard to take care of the animals who need there help. Please help them get back onto there feet so that all the poor homeless animals get the best care they deserve

    Pros

they are loving people who care about animals and finding everyone in their shelter homes

    Cons

they are a non-profit organization and cant afford to remodel their shelter even though they are in desperate need of it

  • 9. Wonderful place

    by: camdensmom

I have visited the humane society many times. Each time I go I am impressed with the love and care that the animals are shown. The staff and volunteers work hard to get the animals adopted. I have asked questions and they either know the answers or will find some one who does. They go out of their way to match the animals with the right family. Hats off to a great place.

    Pros

    treats animals great

    Cons

    cramped quarters

  • 10. One of my favorite places!

    by: debbiejw

I love going to the shelter to visit the kitties and dogs. I was a volunteer dog walker, and cat petter. We have adopted two cats: Sherman (now Kozmo) in 2006, Pumpkin (now Koal) in 2007 and one dog (Buddy the Jack Russell) in 2007 from here, and always find the shelter people caring, helpful and professional. Even after one year, the staff remembered us and our pets from when they were at the shelter. I was so impressed!! They truly care about animals here. The Washington County Humane Society should win the contest.

    Pros

Never a dirty litter box to be seen!

    Cons

The dog area is so loud, the poor bunnies get scared.

  • 11. Dog behavior training

    by: Angelsmama2

The Washington County Humane Society is wonderful. I enrolled my dog Angel in their behavior training classes as a pup. They were patient, and very helpful. She loved meeting the other dogs and learning new commands. It's a great place to enroll your pet. They do a great job.

    Pros

    Fantastic staff

    Cons

    I have no complaints.

  • 12. Best Adoption!

    by: Wendyrh

13 years ago we thought we were going to loose our first dog, Brandy. She was pretty sick and we thought it was terminal. It turned out not to be - thank goodness! - but having faced the possibility of loosing her made us realize we needed another puppy! We searched high and low and found the Washington County Humane Society! We were welcomed in and given any information we requested, and all the time we needed. We found Nellie and it was love at first sight! We had to wait the required waiting period while our background was checked, but the moment we got the phone call that all was approved, we knew we were set! Nellie was a wonderful addition to our family - and though she is now the mellow one of the bunch, she once was the one leading the pack! Thank you for all of these wonderful years you've allowed us to have with Nellie! She is a perfect match!

    Pros

    Close by, Friendly Folks!

    Cons

    None!

  • 13. An amazing, caring shelter

    by: CindyCA

The Washington County Humane Society has an incredibly caring staff of regular employees and volunteers. They even provide community service opportunities for troubled youth. Staff encourages responsible adoptions. Every animal has a name. Their website is well maintained. The photos of the available animals are wonderful. I really like the "Happy Endings" on the website that shows which animals have been adopted each month. It's a good feeling to know that those furry friends are going to a forever home.

    Pros

knowledgeable, able to take animals that other shelters do not have room for, supports the end of puppy mills and actively protest, Wonderful and fun fundraisers, admired by the community, "no kill",

    Cons

    I can't think of any.

  • 14. A Compassionate, Innovative, Knowledgable Shelter

    by: KathyMult

I love the WCHS! We adopted a golden retriever puppy there and took her to obediance classes right at the shelter. She was our beloved pet for 17 years! More recently we adopted a stray cat and took in a stray we found and later adopted. Every experience we've had with the staff and volunteers has been very positive They even give follow up calls to see how things are going and to offer advise and assistance. My daughter volunteered there quite a bit in high school. They were always very appreciative of her help. They've been so welcoming to my son with special needs and I as we've participated in their innovative Feline Intervention Project too. We've enjoyed seeing so many of the cats we've worked with find homes! My dog and I have also participated in their innovative Pet a Pet Program. I always look forward to their newsletter and check their website regularly to read about the "happy endings". The only problem I see is that this shelter needs more space and a makeover!!!! They work miracles with what they do have.

    Pros

Friendly, knowledgable, Caring, Innovative Staff and dedicated volunteers

    Cons

    They need more space

  • 24. Proud of the Washington County Humane Societie's efforts

    by: chermes

I have been to the Washington County Humane Society over the past few years for many different reasons. Donating items. Sometimes to have a beloved pet's body cremated. Once to hand over a stray cat, found crying in pouring rain at my back door. I have left them with a parakeet no one I knew wanted. They said a lady was looking for one just the day before. I always have had good feelings leaving no matter what the reason I came for. The staff is pleasant and it is always busy with volunteers. I can't say enough good things.

    Pros

Very clean, well staffed, very helpful

    Cons

    Small, not their fault

  • 25. Caring Shelter

    Cons

    none

  • 26. They Really Care

    by: Flobow

I think any animal who ends up at this shelter is lucky. They stated to me, "ALL our animals will get adopted, we just don't know how long it will take some of them." Even so, they have a really hard job to do to make sure this really happens. I guess if there are any cons, it would have to be that they are a "bit to concerned" as in they almost insist that you bring any animal that you might have in to meet the other animal. I do believe that should really be an individual choice as some pets take longer to meet and get to know the "new kid in the family" and getting to know each other through a visit at the shelter isn't always realistic.

    Pros

    They really DO Care

    Cons

    See below please

  • 31. I love WCHS!

    by: MelissaMc

Back in 2005, my family and I went to WCHS in search of a new pet cat after our other one passed away. One of the friendly staff members brought us into a room with the cat we were interested in, Monarch. After sniffing around, Monarch crawled into my lap, purring, and closed her eyes to rest. It was then we knew that she had to come home with us :) We renamed her Peaches, because she is very sweet like the fruit. She is still living with us today, and she has been so pampered and happy here. I graduated from high school in January, and after I visited WCHS's website, became interested in volunteering to be part of the F.I.P. So far I have volunteered two times; today, and two days ago. I feel very welcome here. The staff/volunteers are very nice and helpful, and they care about their animals so much. The shelter is small, but its cleanliness is satisfactory. And of course, the animals are absolutely adorable. Overall, WCHS is a great shelter and is deserving of a makeover! I can't wait to continue volunteering here.

    Pros

    Happy animals, helpful staff

    Cons

    None

  • 32. We're celebrating 4 years with our WCHS adopted dog, Bunny

    by: nancyluvsgreen

This February 28th my husband and I are celebrating the "birthday" of our dog, "Bunny". We adopted Bunny 4 years ago from the WCHS. The services that are provided are necessary education for the public; they guide you to obtain the best match for your lifestyle. We are so thrilled with Bunny -- she is a Rottweiler/Black Lab mix. She has the best temperament and could not be a better companion. Everyone loves her. I'm eager to adopt another four-legged companion and eagerly watch the website for current dogs. I am patient and will know when the right dog comes along. What would our community do without these necessary services to assist both animals in need and humans in their quest for a happy and health life together?

    Pros

Staff educates and evaluates matches wisely

    Cons

How can you choose -- so many need good homes and love!

  • 33. We've adopted here

    by: Cindoe

We used to live in West Bend and have adopted from this shelter. They were a kill shelter then, don't know if they still are. I know sometimes this can't be helped but still hate to see a shelter kill animals.

    Pros

    Good shelter

    Cons

Last time I was here it was a kill shelter

  • 34. Great Humane Service Provider

    by: linthepin

I have personally brought several strays to the WCHS. One of them was tagged, so, the office just had to hold the dog, until the owner contacted to retrieve his dog. The others were not tagged, so they were given immediate veterinary exams. Recently, I've called for advice on matters of animal welfare in the community, and was given much support from Kathie Jaster, a humane officer that is on staff at WCHS. My sister has adopted cats there. I hope to be able to add a dog to my home. I won't hesitate using WCHS as a source for a good adoption.

    Pros

    Accepts strays, Gives Good Advice

    Cons

    none

My husband and I adopted Cal from WCHS about 4 years ago and it was the best thing we could have ever done! Cal is a pitbull and if could have 5 more dogs just like him I would ( I just need a larger house)! • 40. Both our animals are from WCHS - they've been wonderful!

    by: lottosal

I can't say enough good things about the staff of WCHS. We adopted Lucky (domestic shorthair cat) from WCHS in April, 2004. In March of that year, our beloved Golden Retriever Chance passed away from kidney failure. We knew we wanted another pet, but couldn't bear to think about getting another dog so soon after Chance left us. So, my daughter decided she really wanted a cat. We went to WCHS and began to look around, looking for that special someone. When we went into one of the cat rooms with cages, we caught sight of a 9-month old cat named "Lucky" - that seemed in keeping with the name our dog had had, and struck us as a potential omen. A staffperson was kind enough to get Lucky out of his cage, where he settled in on my daughter's lap. It was meant to be. However, Lucky had already been identified for adoption by someone else. Rather disappointed, we set about looking for another potential pet, but our hearts had already been captured. The staff person noticed this, and said she might be able to work something out... We got a phone call later that day from the same staff person saying she had talked with the people who were slated to take Lucky home, and convinced them to adopt a different cat. Needless to say, we were thrilled! We brought him home the day after that. He hid under the recliner for several days, but eventually came out to explore. (You wouldn't know it when you look at him now - the whole house is obviously his...). It's been an adventure with Lucky - in the beginning, once he became familiar with his surroundings, he would jump out at us randomly - he seemed to take great delight in startling us. Also, he sucks on his tail before he falls asleep - pretty cute (he sometimes falls asleep on his head while doing that - awkward). We owe a great deal of thanks to WCHS for their help in finding Lucky's forever home with us (pictures of both pets are posted under picture reviews). Our adoption of Lucky went so well, we adopted Griffin (Golden Retriever/Beagle mix) from WCHS the following year. The staff helped us identify a dog with an appropriate temperament for our family, and the adoption went smoothly. Griffin has also been a great match for our family, and gets along with Lucky (but Lucky rather picks on Griffin, I'm afraid). In the meantime, we've become staunch supporters of WCHS - after all, they've given us several members of our family! I thoroughly recommend WCHS for anyone looking to give an animal in need a home.

    Pros

Great staff, well organized, great volunteers - all in all, really terrific!

    Cons

Can't think of any, unless you consider that the shelter really needs more resources.

  • 44. Not only animals but compassion fill this shelter

    by: catsecrets

Before I had even adopted from this shelter, I was impressed by the adoption ads that they placed in the paper. Each animal that was featured had such an accurate and caring description placed with them. You knew exactly the temperament and characteristics of the animal. The staff works hard to place the right pets together and with the right family. After one of my cats passed away, I knew that I had the room and means to adopt another cat. I had never used the shelter before, all my cats were strays. But after looking at the ads, one in particular touched my heart and I went and adopted a mother & daughter cat from the shelter. The adoption consultant that helped us was knowledgable and you could see how much he cared about the cats that were there. After they checked my vet reference, I was approved and came for my new family members. Every step of the way I encountered people who cared and the emails I received afterwards asking how the cats were and thanking me were really appreciated. A great organization

    by: britneyap

I just love the Washington County Humane Society, It is a wonderful cheery atmosphere!! When I am old enough I am gonna volunteer there. I do not say this because my mom works there, I say it because it really is a great place. I also know and see how they all love and take care of all the animals! I know that if my mom didn't care about them we wouldn't have a house full of foster cats! I don't care I love having them here!

  • 51. A great shelter

    by: Krochalk

Many years ago we adopted a dog from the WCHS who was one of the sweetest critters I've known. She was my girl and I still compare many dogs I meet to her. Since then, my father has volunteered with WCHS and I've had the opportunity to visit. The facility has always been super clean and well maintained. The animals are well cared for and the staff and volunteers seem to look for new ways to promote the facility. What impressed me most during my most recent visit was the staff and volunteers. The people are very friendly and outgoing. They answered all my questions and showed me around a bit. It is through the hard work of people like these folks that helps so many critters get adopted. I hope my parents will be making several visits in the coming months to find their new pet.

    Pros

    Staff and volunteers are wonderful

    Cons

A bit far from the city

    by: chocho

I feel that the Washington County Humane Society is a wonderful place. I did not get my cats from there but if I ever want another baby that is the place I would go. I have donated money and products to them and know that the staff is hard working and really care for their animals. My friend volunteers there and I hear many stories about the working of the shelter. Many are funny, a few sad but they always have the animals best interests at the top of the list. Their space is small but everyone there has a big heart. They would be an excellent choice for the makeover. My hat is off to the staff, volunteers and animals at Washington County Humane Society.

    Pros

staff is wonderful to the animals

    Cons

    small space limited funds

  • 54. Thank You

    by: johnnyp

Recently my Mother passed away leaving a huge void in my Fathers life. We all agree that my Father needed a companion to ease his grief and pain. The Washington County Humane Society and its staff were so helpful finding the purrfect friend for him. Now all I hear from my Father are stories of how His new friend, Diesel, and him have grown so attached and fond of one another. Thank You again WCHS, again you have made a perfect match, one that was needed more than you know.

    Pros

Great staff who put animals first

    Cons

Nees more space for better viewing of animals

  • 55. My Dog

    by: macandcheese91

Washinton County Humane Socitety deserves to win this competition because it is a very caring and overall amazing environment for the animals they keep there. The sad part is that the place is getting very crowded, and soon they will have no choice but to start putting pets down. This is very unfortunate because all these animals deserve a great home and an enjoyable life. My family got my dog, Molly, from that Humane Society. She was an abused dog that was rescued, but the best part about molly was that she was only a little over a year when we got her, but she knew how to sit, stay, "sit pretty", beg when she needed to go potty, and she's an extremely smart dog. She knows the name of every single one of her toys. I know there are many animals there that deserve a home such as molly does. I really hope that the people of this community look out for the animals there and try to do as much as they can to win this fundraising event.

    Pros

I just started volunteering here with my fiance about a month ago. We walk the dogs during the mornings when we get a chance. It's such a satisfying feeling to be able to take the dogs out of their cages and give them a nice long walk outside. The staff always helps us out with whatever questions we have. I can't wait to be trained to do other volulnteering tasks!

    Pros

Wish I had more time to walk the dogs.

  • 62. nice facility

    by: tracern77

Very nice shelter. We adopted a cat from here about 2 years ago. Staff was friendly and helpful. This was our first time adopting, so we weren't sure what to expect. The process was painless and smooth. They even had time for our 4 year old golden to meet his new buddy. I also thought it was very nice of shelter staff to call our home a few weeks later to make sure the cat was adjusting well and made sure we did not have any questions. I've also taken our golden to puppy and other training classes. Great instructor and training room.

    Pros

  • 66. Thanks for Everything

    by: MontysCrew

From the moment I went in they were thrilled to help me select the perfect cat for my husband and my self. It wouldn't have mattered to them if I had asked to see every adoptable animal, they were more willing to make sure that I had adopted the perfect match for us then to just "get rid of" one. The gentleman that assisted me was very helpful and answered all of my questions and in the end we did indeed adopt the perfect match! I am very grateful for all of their help and attention and not making me feel as though I was intruding. Our cat, Monty, is the best! I would recommend anyone looking for an adoptable animal to the Washington County Humane Society!

    Pros

Very friendly staff, they really care about all of their animals

    Cons

Small for the amount of animals they shelter

  • 71. The love of animals is evident in all they do.

    by: SBJ

I have been involved with the Washington County Humane Society for about 9 years. My dog and I visited nursing homes, arranged through the shelter. I've taken dog training classes. I've been a volunteer for their Festival of Trees. I have had to call the shelter when there was an injured raccoon in my yard and they responded promptly and professionally. ( he was rehabbed and returned to the wild). I've seen their interactions with animals, and the love of animals is evident. They are very concerned with making appropriate matches between animals and potential owners, so animals can find their forever home. They are challenged with financial constraints, but the animals are their first priority. The leak in the side of the training room can wait. They are a great bunch of people and take the responsiblity of caring for many animals in stride and with joy.

    Pros

    Very caring staff and volunteers.

    Cons

Challenged by costs of maintaining building.

  • 72. Love this place!!!!

    by: eliza0214

My husband and I adopted a shelter dog who was one years old and we had no idea how much training was needed for him. When we took him to the beginning training program, he had a long way to go and a lot of issues to overcome. The trainers were wonderful and helped us to learn how to become better dog parents to him. We've gone to multiple fundraising events and they have all been well organized and advertised.

    Pros

Great fundraisers, no kill shelter, very good training programs

    Cons

needs updating and more room for cats

    by: ccskattebo

I felt very dumb calling around and around to all these different places to find out a simple question. No one really gave me a answer until i walled the Washington County Humane Society they answered my question so good. I was having a problem with one of my kittens peeing and not using the litter box. They suggested getting a 2nd litter box that the kitten might want to have his own. Also to get a different kind of little that the kitten may not like the kind of litter we got and this is the way of him telling us. They are very caring there for even the smallest questions.

  • 78. Best shelter on earth!

    by: shellringel

I worked for the Washington County Humane Society for two years (2004-2006). I had to leave when I got married and moved to Indiana. Two years later, I still miss the place like crazy. Every time we return to Wisconsin to see my family, I stop in to see my other family. That's just what WCHS is, it's a second home, not only for the animals but for all those who come and go through the doors. The minute you enter the building, you know that you are someone special. Someone is always eager to show you around and help you find your perfect match. The staff knows the animals and understands them. It wasn't always easy watching our favorites go out the door, but we knew that they were finding a better place than even we could offer them. \nWorking there, I quickly realized that even though the building looks huge - there is never enough space! Dragging out extra kennels to make space for the next cat that walks in the door. Making an office into a stray cat intake room . . . Using the bathtub room as a puppy kennel so they have extra room to run and play . . . having to keep a ferret/hamster/bird/or other small animal in the hall so it's safely out of any room with a cat in it. There's so much love in that shelter, but there could be so much more with extra space. We never turn an animal away, but I know the thought of "where are we going to find room for another one" crossed our minds many times. The WCHS is an amazing place to work, volunteer, and find your forever friend, but it would be all that more amazing if they had more space to do the job that needs to be done!

    Pros

The best staff and volunteers around!

    Cons

There never seems to be enough space for all the animals

  • 79. New addition

    by: mipamhew

I have been saving cans from my work to donate to the shelter for a while now and always stop in to see the animals. Our 14 year old rescue dog does not get along with other dogs but we have had cats, they have since past away 6 years ago. We decided to try a cat again and the staff and volunteers at the shelter were wonderful. They were very informative about the cats as far as their likes and dislikes which ones liked to be petted, lap cats ect. The one that picked my husband was a stray so we did not know if she got along with dogs. The staff took a lot of time with us and the cat and introducing her to our dog Nikki. It went better then anyone hoped and Ava is now a part of our family. As busy as the shelter was that night the staff put the animals first, staying after hours so we could finish our introdution and adoption.

    Pros

Staff very willing to help no matter how busy they are.

    Cons

Not enough space to properly view all the animals

  • 80. Favorite Place to Visit

    by: jenemerick

Luckily I live close to the shelter which allows me frequent visits to the animals. They update their website frequently so I always keep my eye on it for that special someone. I love going there to visit with the animals and it breaks my heart that I can't take them all home with me. The shelter is always busy during viewing hours which is good. They have plenty of caregivers and volunteers to help in your pet selection. This is a no kill shelter so they always have plenty to pick from. The dogs move pretty thru pretty quickly so if you see something you like, act fast! But don't forget about hundreds of cats/kittens, rabbits, rats, ferrets, guinea pigs etc. They have it all - make this shelter your first choice when looking for a new pet!

    Pros

    Always well staffed

    Cons

    Too many to pick from

  • 93. An Excellent Facility!!!

    by: 1hdhadler

As a volunteer adoptions counselor for cats I am privileged to work with the staff and volunteers of The Washington County Humane Society on a regular basis. The facility is well organized, neat, clean and well-cared for at all times. The most important part, however, is the staff and volunteers. Their primary concern is always the comfort, care and safety of the animals in the shelter, along with the love they give to each animal in the shelter. Whenever an animal is adopted and leaves for its furrever home, I see the mixed emotions of the staff. I see their happiness and joy that the animal has found its furrever home combined with the sadness that they are saying goodbye to a good friend. Their feeling that each animal is a friend shows their total concern for every animal in their care. In summary, this a truly outstanding facility with outstanding staff and volunteers.

    Pros

    Cons

    I can't think of any

I have been to many animal shelters and I am so proud of our shelter. We have such a wonderful staff who really care and worry about the animals. They take the time with customers to find them the right pet. We have a great web site and fun fundraisers! We have so many wonderful, dedicated volunteers too! We wish we had more people to help all the customers and sometimes customers have to wait for an available staff person, but we must be doing something right because we are usually very busy. I love the WCHS. I think it's a great place to find a new family member. The staff are always willing to help spend as much time as needed to find the perfect match, the volunteers are willing to do anything needed to help out the residents, and the cats, dogs, and everyone else living there are waiting paitently to go to their new home.

I've volunteered here for over 3 years now and can't imagine not being a part of this wonderful facility. The staff and fellow volunteers do whatever is necessary to make sure the animals are comfortable, loved and entertained while they wait for their forever families to find them. \n\nIf you're looking for a furry addition to your family, I know you'll find the perfect match here.

    Pros

    no time limit shelter

    Cons

The Washington County Humane Society is a wonderful place to go if your are looking for a new member for your family. The animals are very well cared for. The shelter is clean, and the staff and volunteers are knowledge and very helpful. They really try to help you find your "perfect" pet.

    Pros

The staff is very friendly and helpful. They take the time to help you find the right pet to match your family's needs and lifestyle.

    Cons

They are sometimes quite busy, so at times you may have to be a little patient.
