    by: KXDYER

THEY TRY EVERYTHING TO GET PETS ADOPTED. ALWAYS TAKE THEM TO OUR PETSMART FOR ADOPTION DAY, PUT PICTURES OF THEM IN THE PAPER, ETC. I AM SAD TO SAY THOUGH THAT OUR TOWN HAS DECIDED TO OPEN UP A SHELTER ON THE TEXAS SIDE AND THERE WILL BE NO ADOPTIONS. THEY WILL HAVE 72 HOURS BEFORE THEY ARE PUT DOWN IF THE OWNER DOES NOT CLAIM THEM

    Pros

    NO KILL SHELTER

    Cons

    NONE

  • 3. Texarkana Animal Shelter is AWESOME!!!

    by: OOScarlett

I had to take my Lil Bit to them last year because she was antisocial; attacking my nieces & nephews, refused to get along w/ the other pets, etc. I was extremely emotional when I arrived explaining to them that I didn't know what to do. I feared she was not adoptable. They calmed me down, began to ask appropriate questions about her such as her habits, her behaviors, her personality. Then the girl behind the counter stated, "It sounds like she needs a home for 1 person w/ no pets." I looked at her surprised and said, "That's exactly what she needs." She informed me that she knew of a few elderly women that may appreciate Lil Bit for her protective personality and assured me she would do all she could to get her in a home. She explained that she couldn't share Lil Bit's outcome, which I understood, but by the time I left I felt that I was leaving Lil Bit in capable hands. She was a good cat she simply did not like sharing me with ANYBODY. I was shocked to see that someone else saw her true character as well.

    Pros

    Supportive, caring, compassionate, empathic, etc.

    Cons

    NONE

    Pros

Every shelter dog deserves a good home and a second chance

    Cons

I hate that the dogs are put to sleep.

  • 5. Best place to adopt

    by: SamB

I got my puppy from here several months ago and I adore her. She bounced around from one foster home to another before I couldn't stand it anymore and I had to keep her for myself. It's awesome that so many people are willing to open their homes and hearts to provide foster homes for the ones that the shelter can't hold.

    Pros

    A must for the community

    Cons

    needs more volunteers!

  • 6. Great People Great Pets

    by: cassan72

When I hear of someone looking for a pet, I immediately reccomend they look at the Texarkana Animal Shelter first. Three family members and friends have gotten their new pets from the shelter. My sister's dog had been there for a few weeks, but you could tell it had been very well taken care of. It was friendly, clean and ready to be adopted. It's one of the best dogs her kids could have asked for.

    Pros

    Great people working and volunteering

    Cons

    Not enough people adopting

  • 7. Jenny Beth

    by: CydPlant

Jenny Beth was adopted from Texarkana Animal Shelter. She was an abused pet and was living in a foster home at the time. My dad had been by the adoption booth earlier in the day and had seen Jenny, so he called me and told me to go look at her. She had been abused by her previous "handler" because she would not hunt. The Handler would take a leather glove with tacks protruding out of it and squeeze her ears if she didn't do something correct. When I first got her she was very shy and paranoid, she also would have nothing to do with men. I brought her home and introduced her to Jackson who was a puppy at the time. She started caring for him like he was her own. I do believe that this is what made her come out of her shell! She is now the best dog I have ever had. She loves all people, including men, and absolutely adores small children. She has been a wonderful addition to my family and I hope that anyone who has a chance to rescue an animal would do so for Jenny's sake!

    Pros

    My Beloved Previous Home

    Cons

    I can't save them all
