  • 1. My Pet Jada

    by: puppeeluv

When I first moved to Tallahassee, the first place I decided to visit was the Tallahassee Leon-County Animal Service Center (shelter). The problem was finding it in the telephone book-it has a name that wasn't listed under the word 'shelter' for some reason. Lucky for me, my neighbor is involved and when she saw me and my 17 year old little dog, Buddy, walking around our neighborhood, she jumped at the opportunity to tell me about a place I could volunteer, and find a 'home' in a new neighborhood. My first day volunteering was great. So great, that I came home with the opportunity of new friendship for my old dog, who really needed some friend to 'spark' him up when his arthritis or vision was bothering him. Some time later, I was introducing Jada to Buddy, who was by that time very ill, and not eating. Having Jada around for him was good. He got to approve his new sister and enjoyed watching her, and she was very respectful of his place in our home. It's been love all around, and even though Buddy passed on, he passed on gently, and happily. He was at our vet office in my lap, and we didn't need to help him to go to heaven. He went all by himself. Jada knew we were grieving and in time has turned into an inspiration for us to adopt two more dogs. Now we are a three-dog family. All are adopted.

    Pros

This is a wonderful place with attentive caring staff

    Cons

list under 'shelters' in 'yellow pages' more animals need to be adopted!

    Pros

    Cons

  • 3. The Leon Community Animal Shelter

    by: albrom

My fiance an I just adopted a cat from the Tallahassee-Leon Community Animal Service Center. I have adopted two dogs from them in the past. I would recomend anyone to go here. We were their earlier today and it just happened to be dogoween. It's an event by the shelter. Lots of animal lovers show up. They were also putting chips in animals for ten bucks. That's a good deal. This place is very interactive with the community and the employees are great animal loving people. They will even try to place you with the right dog or cat for you and your family. The facility is spakling clean and welcoming..

    Pros

Great location near dog park great community activities

    Cons

    none

  • 4. Great Job

    by: EKlinger

My last three dogs have all come from the Animal Service. The people I have met have all been very caring and dedicated. This facility has come a long way in the 20 years I have been part of this community. They do an excellent job of trying to educate the public on spaying and neutering their pets. Leon County should be proud of the service that this facility provides.\r\n

    Pros

Very Caring Staff; Foster parents do an excellent job and try to place their charges in the best homes

    Cons

Too many animals still have to be put down

  • 5. I love this

    by: 87Peace87

I went to a camp here a couple years back. We washed and trained puppies, learned about handling all sorts of birds and rodents, and I enjoyed it greatly. I would give this shelter a thumbs up, and I hope it wins the make over.

    Pros

    Overall awesome

    Cons

Did smell a little, but what an you say? It's filled with loving animals

  • 6. Great place to volunteer

    by: kittynole

There is always something for a volunteer to do here; whether you have a little chunk of time randomly or want to invest more regularly, whether you want to "specialize" in a job or you want to do something different every time you come. Everyone works hard at improving life for the animals, and the volunteers are reminded that no matter what they do, their help is appreciated.

    Pros

Everyone here wants to improve the lives of the animals

    Cons

Some distance from my house (but located near in the highest area population of Tally)

  • 7. Awesome Shelter

    by: dana827

I just started volunteering at TLCASC and while at first I wasn't sure if I'd be able to do it, I knew I wanted to help but didn't know if my heart could take it. My first day I walked at least 8 dogs.. well some walked me, but I had the BEST time. The dogs all just seemed to say such a big THANK YOU for paying attention to them for even a little bit. I will be there as often as I can. Everyone is so nice and they try so hard to find the animals all a home. I'm glad our town has the TLCASC

    Pros

Very friendly staff, knowledgable, helpful, caring

    Cons

That all the animals don't have homes yet

  • 8. They Really Want to Help

    by: FotoFlow

This place has been really helpful to me in the past. When my male cat went missing a couple of weeks ago I went here and they really tried as hard as they could to help me and now that I am facing some big vet bills they have helped me find organizations that give grants to help with the costs. These are really nice people and I know they do the best that they can to help all of the animals in the community.

    Pros

Very nice, helpful and knowledgeable staff

    Cons

They need more space, a little overcrowded

  • 9. The best place to find a friend!

    by: kathytoo

We have adopted four special friends from the Leon County Animal Shelter. They even helped us when we found a lost puppy in another county! The play room is so much fun and you can take as much time as you need to find the right friend for you!

    Pros

    Very clean; caring staff

    Cons

    adoption notices not always current

  • 12. A Fabulous Facility to Find YOur Next Family Member!

    by: jam3989

I started volunteering here just a little while ago and I love it. It's a rewarding way to spend my time after school. I love working in the cat wing to help get poor homeless kitties adopted to good homes. It also reminds me of how much I love my own kitties. They have a wonderful volunteering program and aid in educating the community about important things like spaying and neutering. The TLCASC does a wonderful thing for our community's animals and people alike.

    Pros

Great and knowledgeable staff, wonderful veternarians, clean, rewarding, and well-run.

    Cons

They need more help from the community!

  • 13. Great place to get a new family member

    by: jill1229

I got my dog here and the staff was very helpful. They even followed up afterwards to make sure he was transitioning okay. After adopting Rufus, I couldn't image my life without him!

    Pros

    Great staff

    Cons

Need more room and some updates

  • 14. Awesome Shelter

    by: lbroad

This is one of the best shelters I have been involved with. The staff really care about the animals and both the staff and the volunteers go to great lengths to make sure these animals find homes. Tallahassee is lucky to have such a well run and caring facility.

    Pros

The shelter staff are friendly and really care. Staff work hard to ensure customer service and cleanliness of the facility.

    Cons

    Budget constraints

  • 15. Very helpful shelter

    by: esprenzia

I have found the staff at this shelter to be very helpful and courteous. You can tell they truly care about the animals in there charge. I adopted from them and have had nothing but good experiences. I have also gotten several "vouchers" from them for spay and neuter which has helped me out greatly. Now that they have a new on-site clinic for those animals coming in sick and injured, I only wish they could offer discounted spay/neuter there as well.

    Pros

This shelter is very close to where I live giving me the opportunity to visit often

    Cons

Wish they would offer more discounted spay/neuter programs

    by: ChickieChickie

I have been a foster mom at TLCASC for several years. It has a very rewarding experience taking animals into my home, rehabing them, and helping to find them loving homes. The folks at TLCASC are the best - always helpful, always friendly. Tallahassee and Leon County should be proud to have such an establishment.

    Pros

    Great Staff

    Cons

    Needs More Room

  • 18. Best Animal Service Center!!!

    by: tjdmb85

This is the cleanest animal service center i've ever seen!!! I've worked in a kennel myself and was amazed! You don't have to run around trying to find someone to help you get a dog out of a run because there is always someone in the kennel to assist you. They have multiple, individually fenced in yards so more than one person can take out a dog they are interested in. The staff is extremely nice and very helpful. I highly recommend looking for your new best friend here!!!

    Pros

    VERY CLEAN!!! Super helpful!

    Cons

    by: Patterson

We've adopted pets from the shelter several times over the years. Staff are great. I understand they have a GREAT director now!

    Pros

Great place to get a pet

    Cons

    none

  • 21. Lots of love here

    by: lhafford

When I attended their Bark and Wine Festival to raise funds for their sheltered animals I immediately met at least 20 dogs I wanted to take home with me. It saddens me to know that so many pets must be euthanised and I know the staff does all they can to keep this number low. It is apparent they love these animals and do all they can to give them great temporary homes.

    Pros

Clean, loving and well cared for

    Cons

So many dogs and even more cats

  • 22. absolutely wonderful!!!

    by: gothchick

I started volunteering here back in August of 07 and I am absolutely flabbergasted at the cleanliness, kindness and all-around awesome spirit. Whether going in as a volunteer or an adopter it's a really great atmosphere and everyone has so much compassion for the work they do. I feel so happy just thinking about it!!!!

    Pros

    staff, cleanliness, volunteers, hours, training

    Cons

  • 23. Here's the place to find your next pet!

    by: britetyger

I volunteer here, and I can't say enough good things about the staff. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and will go out of their way to help the animals. All the animals up for adoption have been checked to make sure they are as healthy as possible. I got my first dog from here and he is wonderful!

    Pros

    knowledgeable, friendly staff

    Cons

I can't take all the animals home

  • 24. Great Things

    by: hummingbirdsm

As a volunteer, I have been part of the many events we hold to get interaction with the public and give them awareness of the needs of the animals. It has been great fun to give care to the animals who so desperately need to find, as we say, "FOREVER" homes. The Center tries to do all they can to educate the public to spay/neuter their animals to decrease population. Also, the staff show people how to take care of their animals for those owners who don't know proper care.

    Pros

    Works Hard for the Animals

    Cons

    None

  • 25. Love TLCASC

  • 27. Extremely Organized!!

    by: terpsichore89

I love how well-informed the volunteers are at this shelter, they really know the animals and are extremely helpful. I'm excited to be joining this shelter as a volunteer. Other shelters I have been to, you just walk in on a Saturday morning and volunteer, but the orientation sessions you go through definitely help us to feel more prepared. Also, I am amazed at how organized everything is.

    Pros

    Clean, Organzied, Friendly

    Cons

    Can't think of any...

  • 28. Great Shelter!

  • 30. Wonderful shelter!

    by: ahs04d

I've been volunteering with the TLCASC foster program for almost 2 years now. Fostering dogs and puppies in need of special care is one of the most rewarding things I've ever done! The wonderful foster program at the animal service center could never work as well as it does without the hard work and dedication of many caring, knowledgeable staff members and volunteers. Every time I visit this shelter, I am greeted by numerous friendly volunteers and employees who are eager to answer my questions and assist in any way they can. \nThey truly love the animals and want what is best for them, and it shows in everything they do. The TLCASC is the perfect place to find a new furry family member! I highly recommend it!

    Pros

Clean cages & kennels, always lots of staff & volunteers on hand to assist visitors.

    Cons

The shelter can be difficult to locate if you've never been there.

  • 31. Where I go for pets...

    by: bjdavis

I wish there were no animals for adoption because they all had homes, but since there are lots of great dogs, cats and rabbits waiting for a home, this is the place to go!\r\n\r\nEveryone goes to the "kitten" room because they are so cute, but over the years whenever one of my two cats has died I have replaced it by going into the room for the grown cats. The room is huge with two levels of cages. It is always full...there's far more adult cats than kittens up for adoption. You can see their personalities and know pretty much what they'll be like in your home.\r\n\r\nMonths after my Doberman and cat had died I went to look at dogs and cats. I was in the adult cat room petting a bob-tail in one cage, when a red tabby in the next cage reached out and patted my cheek with his paw. I ended up with both: "Bob" and Patson." Bob was older and only lived a few years. I replaced him with another adult cat from the shelter... "Bartimeaus" (the blind man in the New Testament).\r\n\r\nIf you want a cat, consider spending some time in the "adult cat" room at the shelter. They've had homes before and have had loving owners so they REALLY want to get out of those cages. It's pretty hard to leave without adopting one. I can only go there if one of my two cats passes away...otherwise I'd have too many cats.

    Pros

so many great animals to choose from...

    Cons

unfortunately, so many animals to choose from

  • 32. Sounds Likes A Good Place For Animals In Need

    by: Switch

It's great to have a nice shelter for animals who need a safe place to stay where they will be properly cared for untill they can find a permanent home. We need such a place where I live, the animals in my community do not get a fair chance. I feel so bad for them and wish I could do more.

    Pros

    Seems like a nice place

    Cons

    No Complaints

  • 33. 5 out of 5 for sure!~

    by: ztT4MP60602080

I recently filled out an application to begin volunteering here! I cant help but want to be involved with the needy animals. Just from visiting I know the staff and the care for the animals is wonderful! I hope to be apart of the team soon!

    Cons

  • 34. Great adoption center!

    by: poodleluvr2424

I have been to this service area and all the dogs are very sweet and most are great family dogs. I love to go there and spend time with the dogs because they are so calm. The staff is great there and if you live in Tallahassee and you want a dog you should consider going there to get one!

    Pros

Everyone and every dog is so sweet there

    Cons

The dogs are the sweetest nicest things!

    Pros

    great overall

    Cons

    none

  • 36. Well organized shelter!

    by: DrKerry

The Tallahassee Animal Shelter is a great place to find your new best friend, the staff are friendly and knowledgable. Everyone is full of smiles here. I unfortunately have heard others say negative comments about our animal shelter....I think because those are also the folks that have the mindset that the shelter is where all the defective pets are at....which is not the case, most simply come from folks who failed to spay and neuter, these pets are healthy and some even come well trained! So I hope in the future more people will venture to the animal shelter to find their next pet and not rely on the negative comments and myths that circulate out there. :)

    Pros

    Great volunteer program

    Cons

not enough people go here to find their new best friend

  • 37. Great shelter!

    by: tracythefifi

There is not a morning that goes by when you don't see someone on our local news showing animals that are available for adoption at the TLC shelter. \r\n\r\nApart from the great facility that they have they really go out of thier way to inform the community about animals that are available, spay and neuter, and other ways to take care of animals.\r\n\r\nIt's not good enough to simply warehouse animals, the Tallahassee Leon County Animal Shelter does so much more! This is a really great shelter!!!!\r\n\r\n

    Pros

    Great facility, awareness campaigns

    Cons

    none

  • 38. Hard workers

    by: zoolover

I have seen the so called break room! If their are meeting or events the staff doesn't have a place to eat or relax. I vote as often as possible to hopefully Help this situation out. Also they need new laundromat size Washers and Driers. I know How hard the staff works, I have been there. Those animals are in the best hands. 3 cheers for Anne, Katie, Patrica,Lisa, Andrew, Dill pickle ,Nikki,Willie,Michelle.......etc.....Love you guys

    Pros

    Hard working staff

    Cons

The staff doesn't have a decent breakroom

  • 39. TLCASC

I have volunteered at TLCASC different times over the last few years and have been very pleased. It's a great staff that really care for the animals.

    Pros

    Cons

  • 40. Animal Shelter

    by: yatchick

When I was little I always wanted to go to the animal shelter. I would ask 'mommy' to go almost every time we went to WalMart (which is down the street). They do the best thay can with what they have, but there isn't enough room. Many times small dogs wind up in cages in the hallway, which isn't right. It also tends to seem like the animals are always confined. The dogs have a yard to run and play in, but the other animals usually don't get out unless someone wants to play with them, which isbn't really healthy. The animal shelter needs to be made bigger and better than ever.

    Pros

The people there are very nice and try to help you as best they can

    Cons

There really isn't enough room, or funding, for all the animals

  • 41. Caring and dedicated animal lovers!

    by: ztT4MP46583225

"Stuff the Shelter" was a great way to promote the shelter and draw more attention to such a fantastic organization! The team at the Tallahassee animal shelter always considers the best interests for all their abandoned animals.

    Pros

Hard working and dedicated animal lovers

    Cons

I wish I would have known about their efforts sooner when I moved down here!

  • 42. The Humane Society

    by: taylorday

The Leon County Humane Society is the best candidate for the money. It is a very good facility, but it could really use the money. This humane society always tries to find the best homes for animals. I personally foster cared kittens and because of the employees it turned out to be a great experience. I hope that we win.

    Pros

    great system of adopting

    Cons

    needs more volunteers

  • 43. I love my newly adopted dog!

    by: aosborne

I recently started volunteering at the humane society and finding it very rewarding! I have already taken home a dog that I treasure already-he is the perfect addition to my family. I encourage everyone to help collect volunteers-especially ones that will spend time socializing with the animals-they will love you for it!

    Pros

    very dedicated staff

    Cons

    not enough dog walkers

  • 44. The Best Ever Shelter and Staff at TLCASC

    by: resourceslimited

This animal shelter is one of the best I have ever volunteered for and adopted from. I have 2 shelter dogs from TLCASC. My family and pets have always been handled and treated professionally, with dignity and true interest by all staff we have encountered. Everyone there puts in 100% plus effort!\r\nI was looking for a dachshund several years back.\r\nOne particular staff member went out of his way to be sure I knew about a little girl who came in, was in need of major dental work and a loving home.\r\nHe helped me find just what I was looking for, and at the same time, helped my "Amelia" find her forever home. \r\nI also fostered a heartworm positive dog from the shelter. He was given excellent care by the recommended vet and the shelter helped with the costs of the medical bills.\r\nAlthough I have not volunteered as much lately as I would like, due to being immersed in my small family business, I continue to support TLCASC as much as I can. My husband and I have collected donations from customers at our store and plan on sponsoring a dog or cat kennel or helping the shelter with some financial needs.

    Pros

A Welcoming Caring Environment with outstanding, knowledgeable staff, great service, super clean, awesome volunteers, surroundings of animal paintings on the walls draw you into a caring shelter

    Cons

The only negatives I have ever experienced is that the staff work too hard, are not appreciated enough by the overall community at large and the shelter sometimes gets bad publicity due to the necessity to euthanize.

  • 45. Great Shelter

    by: lal

This shelter has come a long way from when I adopted my first cat about 25 years ago and the animals were put down after a couple days. This facility is much better and the staff are very caring and are always looking for ways to improve - even putting quilts in the cat cages! Way to go!

    Pros

    Caring Staff

    Cons

    Could use more help

  • 46. Rabbit Adoption

    by: ztT4MP68449159

I adopted a rabbit for my daughter in April 2007. The fee was only $10.00, which included the vet check. Everything went very smoothly.

    Pros

    Easy Process

    Cons

    None

  • 47. Wonderful place to find a new family member

    by: mkimlin

I adopted my cat Hannah here back in 1996. They had a wonderful area for me to play with her and get to know her before adopting her. They were not sure if she was spayed, so before I could take her home they made arrangements for her to be brought to the vet of my choice to make sure she was spayed. I appreciate the fact that they will not allow a pet go home before it is spayed or neutered. \nThe shelter works very hard to get information out to the community about their services and needs. They have adoption booths and bring the animals to all different community functions throughout the year to display the animals and promote them for adoption. \nThey are a wonderful facility and they are very deserving (as are all animal rescue organizations) of any assistance they can get to better their services for all the homeless animals in our area.

    Pros

    helpful staff/clean facilities/awesome pets;)

    Cons

too many pets, too little space

  • 51. Wonderful shelter

    by: mgm06

I'm a volunteer at the Tallahasse-Leon Community Animal Service Center and I've been having such a great time. The shelter staff is so accomodating and helpful, I love working with them and everyone works so hard to not only find homes for the animals but also to keep them safe, healthy, and comfortable until then.

    Pros

    Clean, helpful staff, amazing animals

    Cons

the runs for the dogs can get messy

  • 52. General Shelter Review

    by: Perl05

It is awesome to see a place like this and see so many people committed to helping animals.

    Pros

This shelter is trying very hard to reach out to the community and increase adoptions.

    Cons

Need more basic equipment - e.g. washers, dryers.

  • 53. My animal shelter

    by: fsulinz

I've been fostering animals from the shelter for a little over two years and it has been such an amazing, rewarding experience. There are so many people that work here that really seem to care. It's not just a job to them. I love this place and encourage anyone to support the shelter anyway they can. :)

    Pros

Good fostering program, sweet volunteers, really try to help

    Cons

I've had problems with a couple of vet techs

  • 54. Grandkitty

    by: Skye

My daughter was a foster parent for the shelter but decided to adopt the cat herself. She has been a wonderful pet and we are so glad she was rescued. Since this is a college town, students often leave their pets behind after they graduate. We are so fortunate to have this shelter to rescue these abandoned pets and find secure homes for them.

    Pros

    Very caring staff

    Cons

Located a little out of the way

    by: melsilas

I just started volunteering at the shelter and I wish I could spend all of my time there.

    Pros

Wonderful shelter, with caring and friendly staff

    Cons

    Not open on Mondays

  • 57. I look forward to visiting this shelter

    by: jmg07j

I'm currently a college student living in a dorm room so I don't have any animals right now. However, I visit this shelter all the time. I've actually recently started to volunteer here since I spend so much time at this shelter. The staff is very helpful but more importantly, very honest. They don't try to 'sugar coat' the animals just to get them adopted. The animals at this shelter are taken really good care of and it sure shows.

    Pros

No animals will be turned down from this shelter.

    Cons

    Space is a limitation.

  • 61. TLC Animal Service Center Says It All

    by: drjdiver

The "TLC" initials in the name of this shelter says it all. "Tender, loving, care." Every employee, from the director to those who work in maintenance, and every position inbetween, really cares about the animals that are temporarily housed in the facility. Humane education is a high priority, educating the public, especially children, about responsible pet ownership. The Animal Control Officers also spend a lot of their time educating people about how to properly care for their pets. In addition to the routine care of feeding the animals and cleaning the kennels, the kennel techs are also diligent in ensuring that the animals receive timely vaccinations, and watching for any illness that may arise. The staff veterinarian and her vet techs are spaying and neutering as many of the animals as possible prior to adoption. Since the TLCASC is an open-admission facility, euthanizing animals is an unfortunate aspect of the shelter. But it is done with much dignity and concern; it's not a task taken lightly. The facility itself is kept clean, with it being swept and mopped every single day. \r\n\r\nIn short, the TLC Animal Service Center is a great place to find new family members, and the staff will work hard to help you find the perfect animal.

    Pros

    Caring and knowledgeable staff

    Cons

Difficult to keep up with results of irresponsible pet owners

  • 62. This is a wonderful shelter!

    by: doggymom

I am constantly amazed by the caring staff and volunteers at this shelter. It is truly an inspiration to visit there. So much so, that I talked my husband into attending the orientation and becoming a volunteer knowing that he and I really did not have the time! I simply wanted to be part of this great place whenever possible. :)

    Pros

The staff is excellent! They care greatly about each and every animal that enters the place.

    Cons

I cannot think of any except that I would like to see more in our community support the shelter.

  • 67. I found my best friend here.

    by: Kaelic

This shelter is one of the best in the country. Tallahassee is a medium sized city with the charm of a small town. It is staffed with knowledgeable and caring people and includes a full time veterenarian. It has a surgery suite for spaying/neutering and is very active in the community, doing some sort of event almost every week featuring homeless cats and dogs. I personally found my best friend, Max, a purebred German Shepard while I was volunteering there. People are constantly asking me where I got him from ... they are always suprised when I tell them the Tallahassee Leon County Animal Shelter! If you are looking for a place to devote your time and effort, I couldn't give anywhere else a high recommendation.

    Pros

    Well organized and loving people.

    Cons

    Absolutely none!

  • 68. Married to it

    by: kenviking

I'd like to start off by saying I am an Animal Fan. I've always had dogs, cats, ferrets, bird or whatever else. I married a wonderful woman who loves animals more than myself. It all started small as most things do. We had one dog & a bird together. \r\nOur home has grown to a small zoo at our house. 9 - cats, 6 - dogs & 4 - birds currently. From then to now we've had Rats, Rabbits, lots of birds, cats & dogs. We love them all!\r\nI didn't realize until recently, when we lost one just how much they become part of your family. We all think of J.D daily & it's still hard.\r\nOne of the things that has helped is we both volunteer. My Wife is alot more active than myself. She helps back with the Vet & Vet Techs. I help out when I can at Special events & taking Pictures, so that each animal has a good picture for the kennel.\r\nThis is a great help to the Animals & it's something we enjoy. All the people are great at the Shelter. I'd just like to say this is a great place & everyone should get involved more!!\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Pros

    Awesome People!

    Cons

    Can't Adpot them all!

I love the Tallahassee Animal Shelter. We have adopted 2 dogs and fostered 3 from this shelter and have been so surprised with the support we RECEIVED from an organization we were trying to support ourselves.\r\n\r\nThe Vet Techs are great, knowledgeable, caring. And we love the use of Kuranda beds to get the pets off the floor!

    Pros

Great Vet Techs, Wonderful and Robust Volunteer Programs, Kuranda Beds

    Cons

    Can't think of anything

  • 71. Great place to work

    by: sfmoboe

Working at the shelter has been very rewarding. These animals deserve as much of our love as possible, and I can see that happening here. There are so many volunteers that are very helpful, the full-time staff is great, and the activities and events that occur in the community provide a great service to our community. Kids learn how to treat animals properly, and dogs and cats find great new homes. Wonderful!

    Pros

    the staff is wonderful!

    Cons

    can't think of any

  • 72. TLCASC

  • 73. Tallahassee Leon County Animal Service Center continues its' mission

    by: mellyk

First and foremost anyone who has ever worked at an animal shelter have a heart of gold..and these brave women and men are no exception. They often work grueling hours, in high emotional stress without alot of pay..why do they do it? Because they CARE! The animals are why they continue to return to work the next morning. There is great reward in rehabilitating sick, injured animals back to health..and placing animals in new, loving, permanant homes..but what is sorely lacking at TLCASC is spacious, dry more comfortable kennels in the adoption wings for both cat/dogs; enough room for excercise and socialization for the dogs and cats; and more office space for the full time administrative and kennel staff. \r\nThe TLCSASC men and women are a group of hardworking, caring people who want the best humane treatment for the animals in their care..please help them accomplish this goal by awarding them the makeover...\r\n

    Pros

Staff is ready to step outside their "job duties" to help customers and one another

    Cons

Dog Adoption ward is dark, damp, loud and depressing..not enough space or light for the dogs..Cramped for space..

  • 74. Wonderful shelter

    by: mdrose55

We have adopted all of our dogs from here and they all are wonderful. The foster program is amazing, with great follow up and communication.

    Pros

great location by park encourages adoption

    Cons

Every time I go in I want to adopt them all

  • 75. Loved the friendly, supportive staff and volunteers

    by: nolegal99

Not long ago, I adopted an adorable beagle mix from this facility. The process was quick and everyone seemed to be willing to help me throughout the process. I love animals and don't want any of them to be homeless; so I was impressed to see that they have the "spay/neuter" policy which is strictly inforced. The TLCASC even dropped the puppy off at the vet for me to have her initial check-up and her spaying done. I would definitely recommend them to everyone who needs a pet!

    Pros

Very clean facility, friendly and knowledgeable staff and volunteers that seem to really care about the well-being of the animals. They had dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, and other animals available for adoption.

    Cons

As with most facilities, not enough space for the quantity of animals that come through there.

    by: Sarahchickfsu

I love this shelter. I volunteer there and the staff really cares about the animals and doing their best to match them to good homes.

  • 81. Outstanding Animal Shelter

    by: tallytownkitty

The shelter is manned by a caring, courteous, pro-active staff. They work hard for the animals in their care and they want the best for them. The shelter has many programs and encourages volunteers (like myself) to step forward and help. The shelter recently was able to hire a full-time vet on staff. This has made a tremendous difference for the animals. It is an honor to be affiliated with this Shelter. I am so proud of the staff and their efforts to help the homeless and abandoned souls in their care.

    Pros

Pro-Active Animal lovers - hard workers for animals

    Cons

The shelter needs more funds to achieve eveything they need to do

  • 82. World-Class Facility

    by: sikorsks

A great facility with a great team of volunteers and staff. It's hard to believe when you walk through the front doors that this is actually an Animal Shelter. I would definitely recommend that individuals thinking about adopting a new family member check out the Animal Service Center first!

    Pros

The Animal Service Center offers an "Online Kennel" at www.talgov.com where individuals can purr-use the kennels from the comforts of their own home. What a great way to select a pet!

    Cons

Would like to see more gardens outside facility and perhaps "resting benches" for individuals and their four-legged friends.

  • 83. The best place to find a friend for life

    by: tytomoon

We fostered then adopted our dog Buddy at the Tallahassee-Leon Community Animal Service Center. The staff made the process as easy as possible. The way they separate large dogs from small dogs makes the choosing process a little easier . . . although there are so many wonderful, deserving animals . . . it's never easy to bring home just one.

    Pros

Caring staff works hard to educate the community

    Cons

It would be great if they partnered with the Tallahassee Dog Obedience Club again to provide free classes for people who adopt dogs.

  • 84. Great Facility with lots of animals in need of homes!

    by: tyger9791

This is a great facility. It houses a variety of animals, from dogs and cats to rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets and reptiles. They've even had pot bellied pigs and sheep! The staff works hard and is caring. Even though it is a kill shelter, they are trying to become a world class facility. The shelter maintains a healthy relationship with local rescues, pet stores, and has a great foster program. \r\nThe staff is helpful but overworked. The shelter takes in over 10,000 animals a year.

    Pros

    Clean, great staff and volunteers

    Cons

so many animals in need of homes

  • 85. So many great animals awaiting homes here!

    by: Sherrie

I have been a volunteer at the Tallahassee-Leon Community Animal Service Center for five years. I walk/bathe dogs, assist with adoptions, assist with fundraising and donation collection. It has been such a rewarding experience. The staff is wonderful and helpful. I only wish there were enought great homes to save all the sweet little lives that call the shelter home. I am proud to be volunteering at this shelter and to be part of such a tight-knit network of animal loving folks!

    Pros

Facility is organized and clean for great efficiency in animal adoptions

    Cons

Way too many homeless pets without homes!

  • 88. Great Foster Parents, Volunteers, and Staff

    by: cmdemeo

This facility has great foster parents, volunteers, and staff that work tirelessly to get the animals in Tallahassee and its surrounding area new homes. The staff work hard to ensure that a majority of the adoptable animals get the chance to be placed in a forever home. Pet overpopulation is a huge problem that can be overcome with the humane practices of spaying and neutering. Every animal that leaves the facility is required to be spayed or neutered are micrchipped so they can be identified in the future if they are lost or returned to the TLCASC. So come on in and see who we have available for adoption. Who knows you may leave with a great pet or two.

    Pros

Great Foster Parents, Volunteers, and Staff

    Cons

    Customer Service can be lacking

  • 89. excellent place to find a new family member!

    by: nbb07d

    Pros

    Cons

may be hard to find, its by Tom Brown Park

  • 90. A new friend awaits your visit to TLCASC

    by: twiggybits

The TLCASC is a wonderful facility that helps out the animals of Tallahassee and its surrounding areas. \r\n\r\nThrough the work of its staff, wonderful foster parents, and dedicated volunteers many animals who may not have a chance are able to find new homes. \r\n\r\nSince it is a city facility, it relies heavily on its volunteers and foster parents to supplement the work of the overworked staff. Since they are sometimes stretched thin, the customer service can be lacking but they work tirelessly to provide the best treatment posiible for the animals in their care. \r\n\r\nThe volunteers have worked hard to establish partnerships with local pet stores to help the animals in the facility find new homes. With the help of these stores, the dedicated foster parents, and volunteers, many animals are given the love, attention, and nudge to get them on the track to a new home. Kudos to them for making so many adoptions occur.

    Pros

Great Animals, Foster Parents & Volunteers

    Cons

Decent staff but could use some improvement
