  • 1. Made a stressful situation worse

    by: MissingMyKitty

We recently had to put our 17 year old cat down. It was already a stressful situation, and they made it worse. My husband was upset when we learned our kitty was dying. He simply wanted to ask some questions, and while he may have been a little forceful, they treated as if he was a violent criminal. The doctor refused to talk to him, and so he went outside to calm down. The staff then locked the door and would not let him back in. I was having a severe panic attack from stress, but they would not let me go out to the car the get my anxiety medication. My husband knocked on the door, trying to get back in, they said he was banging on the door and called the police. We had to go outside to talk to the cop, all the while missing precious last moments with my kitty. After the staff talked to the cop, they allowed me to go back in, since I was the owner. Without even getting to discuss our options with my family, I had to decide to put her down. I begged for the staff to let my family in to say goodbye, they told me they would not let my family inside. I was almost passing out from stress, and I simply wanted my loved ones with me. I even asked to just stick my head out the door to let them know it was happening, and was denied even that!! My mom, dad and husband did not even get to say goodbye. I sat there, head between my legs, crying my eyes out watching my poor kitty pass away with out the comfort of my family. I later learned the officer had told my family outside that I didn't want them in there, but I digress. They over reacted, and should realize the stress and grief, and should have been properly trained and experienced on how to deal with this without calling the police. It was unnecessary and made everything so much harder. In the future, I will not be going back to this vet. Calling the police because people are grieving is heartless and cruel. Because of their intolerance, we missed out on precious goodbyes with a cat who had given us 17 years of love.

    by: ratsncatsnelephants

The place is overall not too bad, but personally we had a falling out with SVH . . . they said we had an appointment, then they called and said they had an emergency and couldn't keep us . . . then kept moving us to different dates . . . and were quite rude too. Finally we got fed up and now my dog goes to Wickaboag Veterinary Clinic. We love it there. Our neighbors have a Lab who went there to get spayed. She ended up being allergic to the stitches that they put in there. Maybe it was just bad luck, but we decided to find another vet, and we find Wickaboag so much better.

    by: KCsMom

As a puppy raiser for NEADS i was introduced to SVH as they graceously donated care to the NEADS pups i was home raising !!\r\nAlways professional and friendly the staff made every visit a pleasure....whether it was routine vaccinnations, spay/neuter time, or when one of the pups had an injury to his foot that required multiple visits..... the staff truly cares for the animals and the people ! It was nice to occassionally drop in with the NEADS pup in training for a quick weigh-in and a cookie and a little work on self-control in the spacious and clean waiting area.....it didn't take long for me to transfer the kittens medical records to SVH ...... and of course, KC was seen by our friends at SVH with-in 72 hours of her coming home with us! and has popped in for a couple of casual visits.... we are proud to call SVH our vet and would highly recommend them to all.....

  • 5. OUTSTANDING Vet

    by: JoanneLafleche

I have been taking my dogs to Sturbridge Veterinary Hospital for over 16 years now! I switched to this vet when Dr. Gay was there and was covering for the vet I was using. After that visit I knew that I would never find another vet that would even compare to Dr. Mak. I would not take my animals anywhere else! Dr. Mak is the most caring and gentle person and truly loves my dog. Bradley absoloutely loves Dr. Mak. I feel very safe putting my dogs care in Dr. Mak's hands. He will do extensive research if needed and gives you his undivided attention anytime you see him. He's always available! The staff there is just as caring and always willing to help anyway they can.WITHOUT A DOUBT THE BEST VET AROUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The staff at the Sturbridge vet clinic are WONDERFUL! The are knowledgeable and sympathetic to pets and pet owner's needs. They remembered my dogs name even after not seeing her for over a year! The facility never has that "Vet's office smell," and the parking and waiting room are adequate.

If you’ve read my ZooToo homepage you know all about Dami’s health issues. Dr. Maketansky has been a blessing not only because he admitted to not having all the answers but was willing to make the necessary contacts and research so he could provide Dami with the best possible care. He has always discussed her condition and treatment, pros and cons, in plain language that I could follow. He offered no false hope nor recommended any course of treatment he didn’t believe would improve her quality of life while at the same time encouraged me to investigate alternatives, such as nutritional options. There have been many times I think Dr. Maketansky has gone, in my experience, above and beyond for Dami. He, Dr. Frost or someone in his office has always called to check in on her when she was having difficulty and that support has been very much appreciated. And it’s not just for Dami. When my parents went out of town their dog was injured. The pet sitter and I were frantic. I took Boo to the office, without an appointment on a Saturday and was seen. That might not seem like much, after all the injury was a ripped toe nail, but that is the point, it was not a life threatening injury and they still found a way to fit her into their busy schedule. Whenever I call the office I feel like everyone knows me even before they look in her file and I like knowing I can access care in such a facility. THANK YOU STURBRIDGE VET HOSPITAL

  • 13. beautiful new facility

    by: fritzi52

I switched to this vet about 4 years ago, after having a bad experience elsewhere. I have seen several of the vets here as well as interacting with all the staff, and although I click better with some, all have been knowledgeable and helpful.\nThe new building is great - very efficient setup, clean, and the staff has worked hard to make it look nice, planting flowers, etc.\nThey are great supporters of our shelter, providing space for an adoption board, and letting us sell toys and treats from their counter.
