This organization is not a shelter or a resuce. They find homes for highly adoptable animals that would find homes anyway. They TURN AWAY the neediest animals becuase they are too hard to adopt out. It's a shame.
They think they help
Very well run organization!!! I adopted my dog Bandit from them last year at an event at the old Hong Kong Buffet, everything was very well organized, the people were communicative and helpful. Bandit was the PERFECT addition to our household and I am so grateful to the SPCA for bringing him into my life. I would definitely recommend looking at this shelter if you are in the market for a pet, or if you are looking for a place your donation will be put to good use.
Great website, very informative volunteers, frequent adoption events
Shelter hours might be inconvenient for some people,
I got my son Junior from the SPCA of SWMI. He is a huge 3 legged pitbull. He was an owner released to the SPCA after other rescue groups would not take him cause of his breed and his handicapp.\r\nHe is the most loving guy! He is my daughters pillow and my son's foot warmer. Thanks so much for giving him the temp. quarters until me and my family was able to welcome him into our home.
doesn't look at just the ones that can be adopted quickly or the ones that don't need alot of medical
I thank the spca for giving my daughter the opportunity to intern with them for her animal tech. class.\r\n She is a junior in highschool and strives to become a veterinarian in the future. the spca has encouraged her to keep striving for her DREAM. The facility is very relaxing and puts a calm over her every time she leaves for the day.\r\n That is how she knows her goals are heading in the right direction.\r\n The spca not only helps animals, but they look at the long term. Eduacating our youth with volunteer HANDS ON opportunities and the importance of\r\n "pet ownership" which should be considered privledge
the pets are happy and healthy
a ventilation system and drainage would benefit this facility
I stand with the SPCA in supporting a no-kill animal shelter for our area.
I am humbled by the selfless dedication of these volunteers
no-kill animal shelters require many volunteer foster families.
I adopted my cat from this wonderful organization. I couldn't have been happier with the turnout!
always in need of more room for more animals
I have had nothing but a positive experience with this organization. They are an asset to the community.
Very knowledgeable about animal needs and behavior
I can't think of anything
This facility has pulled the best out of it's volunteers. They help with such love and dedication to ensure all the animals find someone to love them, and a new home.
This facility elicits such dedication from it's volunteers
They could really use more money.
My daughter and I are volunteers at the SPCA, working with the cats. The dedication, care, and love given to the animals by eveyone involved is amazing. The SPCA is a great place to volunteer and is doing a great service to the animals that come through their doors.
The SPCA sees to it that every animal ultimately finds a home
The facillity need to be larger and better suited to their needs
I purchased my dog Sargeant (Samual) Briggs from the spca and he is a great dog. He is a great addition to our family and he has a sister now. Her name is Gonzo (yeah I know, but I didn't name her) and even though they argue like any siblings do they can't stand to be apart.
Well groomed and socialized
I have been volenteering at the SPCA of SW Michigan for about 5 months now. I love it there. The staff is knowledgable and friendly. If I have questions about any of the dogs or cats, they are able to answer them. They help me with any difficulties I may have and they really care about the animals. There has be a frequent influx of new animals coming in and leaving almost right a way. They have rescued numberous amount of animals from other shelters and bad homes. there are dogs there that have been abused and the staff try very hard to get them unafraid of humans. I love this place and can't wait to be able to adopt one of the dogs I have worked with. And it makes me tear up a little everytime I hear about one of the dogs going to a home.
Ver knowledgeable staff, clean areas
not enough room
The SPCA of Southwest MI brought me a bundle of sunshine in the person of Camillie, a small 4 year old terrier mix. I had just had to send my husband of 45 yrs to a home for Alzheimer's patients, and our lab had died shortly thereafter. I went online and saw that the SPCA had an older dog, smaller and non-shedding--Perfect! They asked me to come and get acquainted with her, and were so kind and knowledgeable about her background that I was immediately smitten and brought her home! They were very careful about what her new owner would provide in the way of health care, surroundings, and attention. And, they checked back more than once. They were an answer to a prayer!
Great follow-up to make sure animal's new home is good
Lots of paperwork to adopt a pet
I have been a volunteer and memeber for over 4 years. The SPCA is very rewarding and fulfilling. It is such a rewarding experience to give animals that were unwanted a chance at life. I specialize in newborns without moms and have bottle fed both kittens and puppies 24-7 until they are able to eat on their own. I am also a registered nurse and even that field is not a rewarding as working with the animals. Thanks to the SPCA for everything they do.\r\nPat Adams
Evaluates every animal on an individual basis and is a no kill shelter
I started volunteering there in the cat room a few weeks ago and I love it. The staff is wonderful and the cats are awesome. I love all of the cats and wish I could take them all home. Realistically this is not possible so it makes me so happy when I know they get adopted out. In the meantime, I try my best to make sure they have clean living arrangements and that they get lots of pets and love.
Needs a make over badly
I have two cats from the SPCA and they are the best cats anyone could ask for. They bring joy to our lives every day - Thank you.
Club Kongo and Kayla loves to help the SPCA save animals. This organization is run by volunteers that give of themselves 24/7 for the animals. The SPCA has only been around since 2002 and has already had a large impact in the SW Michigan Community. They are determined to grow and adapt and find ways to reach more homeless animals. The volunteers at the SPCA do an amazing job and I can't wait to see where the future takes them!
SPCA is motivated and determined to make a difference
SPCA currently rents its building and needs a new shelter
Kudos to any shelter that helps save our helpless furry friends! How wonderful it must be to have so many volunteers - and great things you do in the community. Our mission is much the same as yours!
save furry pets
If you want to adopt a great pet, this is the place to come. The staff is very knowledgable and will help you select the right cat or dog for you and your family.
A group of very helpful people.
This is a great shelter that really cares about the pets in michigan. Keep up the great work!
excellent at Finding animals loving homes
not one thing
This is a great organization that I am only beginning to get to know. There are so many volunteers. I am amazed at how dedicated everyone is each week for their adoptions. I am sure that since I have not been a volunteer for very long that I have only seen the tip of the iceberg. On the really snowy, cold and amazingly hot days I think of how great it is to have so many people go to the shelter to walk and feed and take care of the animals. I just can not say it enough-what a dedicated group:) Keep it up!! You guys are all so great.
a lot of dedicated volunteers and great staff
not enough room for all the pets that need to be saved
I have worked with other volunteer organizations and none have been so well put together. There is a great group of people that are in charge and create such a positive vibe. The animals are wonderful. I love walking the dogs on the weekends and at the adoption events. It's nice to know they are in a safe place until they get adopted.
Great adoption counselors, clean shelter, wonderful pets, great fun
Not enough walking spaces, dogs need more play yard space, cats need more room
This is a great shelter that truly cares about homeless pets.
Clean cages, large cages, knowledgeable and caring staff.
Needs a shelter makeover!
I just started volunteering here and the place is just amazing! It's clean, the staff is very friendly, and The animals just look great. I will be working with the dogs there - walking, playing etc and they're always looking for volunteers, donations of money, towels, blankets, and (suprisingly to me) laundry detergent.
Great environment, friendly staff, clean
they're not adopted by you!
My family is quite new to the volunteer scene at the SPCASWMI, but we already love it!!\r\nWe have been fostering dogs and cats in our home for a few months now and we really, really enjoy our temporary family members. Some of them are getting the love and attention that they have been so sorely neglected of before now.\r\nAbout 3-4 months ago I brought home Bun Bun, a 2-3 yr old, small, shorthaired, grey tabby. Bun Bun had been seriously abused and neglected in her short life. She was matted, underweight, flea/mite infested w/ patches of fur missing due to a severe allergy to fleas. Her back feet were deformed and unable to jump (possibly had been broken) and her whiskers had been cut off leaving her with balance issues. She hid under our son's bed for the first month and a half, coming out only to eat or use her litterbox under cover of night. She was scared of her own shadow!\r\nI am happy to report that Bun Bun is finally coming around, slowly but surely. She is joining in the family time and roaming the house seeking out attention. She is just learning how to play, can you believe that, a cat that didn't know how to play? Sad, huh?!\r\nI have more and more hope for Bun Bun everyday!! She will be going on the Petfinder website soon in hopes of finding her the forever home she soooo much deserves.\r\n\r\nThe SPCASWMI is a wonderful organization with lots of super people who are extremely dedicated to saving lives and finding forever homes for our furry friends.\r\nThere are many, many ways to volunteer, look deep into your heart and see if you can't find a way of your own, you won't regret it!
Our volunteers are the greatest!
We always need more of them.
The SPCA provides a wonderful service with a volunteer run no kill shelter. The animals there deserve another life and a forever home. It is amazing what they do for these animals.
This is a wonderful service.
No kill shelter!!!
I used to volunteer here and walk homeless dogs on the weekend. It was so much fun and everyone was so nice there and all the dogs were so precious and well taken care of!
I love everything about it!
Can't say anything bad!
It would be a lot easier to just rescue the cute and fuzzy pets that are at the pound. But the SPCA takes in the animals with obvious medical issues (kennel cough, pneumonia, fractures) as well as the ones that appear healthy. Even after taking them in, if a pet is found to have heartworm or other illness, that pet is given all the medical treatment it needs. \r\n\r\nOlder pets, who would have no chance of adoption at the pound, are also brought into the SPCA. And amazingly, those pets find their second chance at happiness too! Those are the most heartwarming happy endings.\r\n\r\nI am proud to be a member of this organization and will do all that I can to make it possible to save more lives in the future. \r\n\r\nSPCA rocks!
Great group of people, caring, hardworking, takes in a lot of homeless pets, serves many counties

I think this shelter is trying real hard. As usual it needs more money, workers and space.
I think this shelter is definitly on the right track
as always, everyone needs more money
I am so impressed with the people I have met at the SPCA. The staff and volunteers work so hard to save and find homes for as many animals as they can. These people are doing the jobs that other people find too difficult, caring for sick and abused dogs and cats. It can break your heart but they do it day after day. Thank you for being there!
They truly care about the animals
They need a bigger shelter!
We had found a puppy and contacted the SPCA of SW MI, and they contacted us back right away. My local shelter gives them some of our cats and dogs so they can be adopted faster.
Great with the animals
The cages at the SPCA are very spacious and every dog has a bed to lay on. They also get out to play everyday in a large yard. The cages are kept very clean and all the dogs get bathed. It's hard to make an appointment to visit the dogs, it would be nice if they had more walk-in hours. The cat room is nice because there is a couch and "living room" area to hang out with the cats. At certain times of the day, they let all the cats out to roam around and meet visitors in the room. It seems like a great way to pick out a cat based on its personality!
Comfortable for animals
Hard to visit
Good job guys keep up the great work!
As a recent volunteer specializing in foster care for puppies, I have been very impressed with the attention to detail given to every animal, the sincere caring and dedication to this never ending concern of pet care, safety, and rescue, and the plain & simple goodness of the people involved.
Heartfelt dedication from staff & volunteers
Like many shelters, a larger facility designed for animal care is necessary
I love this organization because the people that run it and it's volunteers are all wonderfully caring people who work their butts off saving, caring for, and adopting out our rescued cats and dogs. I've adopted 2 dogs from them, as well as volunteer, and I am so glad that the dogs I have were saved from the possibility of being destroyed at an animal control facility. My life would not be as fulfilling without my dogs or without volunteering to help other awesome dogs!
We rescue so many wonderful animals & keep them until they find their new forever homes
We need more space than we have now, so we can rescue more animals and save them from destruction
I tried to volunteer here. I send my application online and did not hear back. I called a few times but no one answered the phone.\n\nI know the SPCA because of the name and I am sure they do good work. For some odd reason I could not get a hold of them. \n\nI do see them out at pet stores helping to get animals adopted. Keep it up.\n
I joined the SPCA about a year ago and I dont know what I would rather do on my Sundays than be with kittys, kittys, and more kittys!!!
Everybody gets along and has the same goals
its too small

keep up the good work.
A family of friends who share the same interests in the careful caretaking of their animals.
Makes sure that animals arent adopted to just anyone
Shelter is small
The staff at this shelter are great. They visit local humane societies and save animals on "kill day". They foster their animals to ensure pets that are well adjusted when adopted out to new homes.
Save pets in danger of being euthanized
Spca is always helping shelters and finding loving homes for unwanted pets. I have only worked with a couple of the staff members and they are always professional and you can tell they love and enjoy what they'er doing for the animals. They have always been there for our shelter in time for need of space. We didn't have to euthanize animals that were adoptable. Thank You SPCA. Keep up the good work.
always finding homes for unwanted animals
SPCA has been a wonderful place to volunteer. I have never seen a place so efficiently ran and well taken care off. The dogs are walked regularly and often taken into foster. The volunteers work hard every weekend at events. Most of all they are honest with people and see some great dogs get wonderful homes!
Friendly staff/volunteers, lots of events
I have been working with the spca of sw mich for almost 2 years. For the most part it is a wonderful group of people, doing their best to save as many dogs and cats as humanly possible. I have been doing foster care of dogs in my home, and find it very gratifying. With the help of many others I have found forever homes for 32 of my fosters. This group works very hard, their fearless leaders spend countless hours weekly, to make a difference in our our tiny part of the world. KUDOS to all SPCA volunteers!
Rescues many animals weekly,Finds homes for many dogs and cats weekly, medicates, feeds, walks, and gives love andattention to all animls daily
Communication could be better, so many people wearing too many hats.
Volunteering with an animal rescue organization is the best way to exercise your heart. You feel every emotion imaginable, sometimes thinking your heart will burst from grief or joy. I spend many hours helping to find loving and responsible homes for the SPCA dogs and enjoy being part of the pack (of dogs and people)!
Caring, dedicated staff and volunteers
Needs more volunteers to keep up with growth!
I searched for an organization that shares my love for dogs, and I found it in the SPCA. The people are passionate about their mission and truly care for all these rescued animals. I am honored to be a part of such a caring, dedicated, and committed organization!
saving pets, providing medical care, and so much love!
none...they are the BEST!
I have been a foster parent since April 2007 and I have to say that it is so nice to see all the many people giving their time and energy to help these animals find good homes. I am amazed at how far away some of the animals have come from and how far away they find new homes.\r\nKeep it up you guys(staff and volunteers) do a great job:)
many homes found for many animals
SPCA of Southwest MIchigan is an AMAZING orginization. They work to protect and care for these unfortunate dogs and cats. The people there are so giving for the pets. They need help to provide everything they want to give to all of the abandoned, stray, abused, and neglected pets out there. There is a shelter, but a shelter can only hold so many dogs. No matter how fantastic a pet orginization is, they all need our help. I think that SPCA would be a wise choice for the make-over. SPCA is my kennel. Is it yours?
They love these animals. They are determined. They have a roof over the heads of the dogs. They are a no-kill orginization... I could go on and on and on....
they need our help for this make-over. Neccesities like towls, more food. There is only some much that one person can give.
You would think that without floor drainage the place would smell bad. But the people working at the SPCA make every effort to keep the shelter SPOTLESS and fresh-smelling. The animals are in spacious kennels, some with kennel-mates to keep them company and all get outside several times a day. The volunteer corps is amazing. Good weather and bad, sometimes all day long, the volunteers make sure that the dogs all get fresh air and exercise.\r\n\r\nWonderful place to volunteer. No better place to adopt a pet.
Lots of animals are saved, spotless
Space constraints, not in the right building
