This place killed my cat in less than 24 hours! I decided to surrender my cat due to financial reasons. I did not want him euthanized. I wanted him placed in a good home. I dropped him off at 4 pm. I told them that I would pick him up and continue looking for a home for him if they deemed him unadoptable for any reason. I immediately found someone who was able to adopt him. The following day by 11 am they had already euthanized him. They told me they would keep him for a few days to give him an opportunity to find a new home. This place does not look into the best interest of the animal. They would rather euthanize then return an animal to an owner who repeatedly stated they were willing to take back the animal and find it a home. Death was not the only option. I made a terrible mistake and wholeheartedly regret it.
Not in the best interest of the cat
I have adopted 3 cats from the S.P.C.A. and the staff was always super helpful and very nice. The dog and cat cages looked clean and their was always a few "shelter keepers" around (animals that could not seem to get adopted but found their way into the hearts of the staff). I have also volunteered there on and off site and I felt that I was well prepared. I have also been to the spay/neuter clinic and the same friendliness and cleanliness and love also applies there! I would highly reccommend going there if you are looking for an animal to love.....you are saving a life!!!
Friendly staff that cares about animals and customers.
I wish that they didn't have to exist, just like they do.
Jenn and I have adopted all 3 of our dogs from the SPCA. We were on the wish list for Westies. Anytime a dog matching "westie" or "westie-mix" came into the shelter Fran would call us. We had a few days to adopt the animal before it would be placed back on the "adoptable" list again. It is a great service and we are lucky they take the time to offer it. We love the shelter and all of the people who work so hard to make a difference in the lives of Polk COunty animals.
employees, volunteers, Wish-List, clean environment, dedication to community
too many animals in Polk County to care for....we need a bigger shelter so we can help more animals
I found my Sassy there. I go there occasionally to bring food and buy some toys to help out. They have a great clinic and great people that really care about the animals.
Great care for lots of animals that need good homes.
As a new staff member at the S.P.C.A Lakeland and a previous employee of other animal facilities I am overly impressed with the dedication and perfection of this shelter. I have worked in many other places that cannot compare to the work that the staff of this shelter put forth to make it a wonderful facility.
Wonderful, dedicated staff, many successful adoptions, very clean
Our mutt, Sadie was adopted from the SPCA of Polk County 18 (yes 18) years ago at the age of two. She and my son have grown up together, and she has been a blessing in our lives. We try to support them whenever possible.
Caring well educated staff
needs more room!
We needed some advice when we first adopted Barkie. The other shelters were so busy, but we happened to be in Lakeland that day. How wonderful they were! Questions answered promptly and made total sense to us.
Always clean, always helpful
As an volunteer and an adopter of many years, I have seen the SPCA grow into a progressive animal welfare organization. As a volunteer, I have witnessed the surrender process. It is difficult for both those surrendering and those who work the in take desk. I have witnessed the staff at the point of surrender request of a $25 donation for the care of the pet. When someone did not have $25 or any funds, they were not turned away. The SPCA is thoughtful and treats each surrender individually, attempting to meet the needs of those who are surrendering and the pets who are surrendered. The SPCA places for adoption the young, small, old and huge along with cute, not so cute giving each one special attention. The SPCA works very hard to place pets in the homes best suited to their personalities and their individual needs. This is why adoption counselors spend time interviewing each adopter. It is the goal for each placement to be successful and a forever home.
Outstanding staff, clean environment and the pets appear happy, well adjusted and cared for.
Not enough room and revenve for all the pets
I have lived in Lakeland for 21 years and have seen the way the SPCA has helped out. They are no longer getting State or local funding so need our help to keep running, but they are not sitting idly by waiting for money. They have their wellness clinic which offers low cost spay/neuter, shots and testing by Vets. They have their walk-a-thon once a year and take the animals to different public functions to help get them adopted. SPCA is not perfect, but they do what they can.
They do what they can for the animals
They don't get State funding
It's a wonderful establishment, where I have adopted two loving fabulous dogs.
Clean kennels etc. and caring staff,
Needs a makeover!!
I have adopted my cat Ziggy 12 years ago from Polk SPCA. We have enjoyed him so much. If not for them taking him in, we would never of had the chance of his love. Thanks so much Polk SPCA!
Always taking care of animals well.
They need more room.
I was fortunate enough to take a tour with their executive director who showed us their facility and current programs to help animals and their plans for the future. Everyone there was committed and hard working and their executive director is one of the top experts in the country, not only helping the SPCA of Lakeland, but other shelters in need as well. Warren Cox is an animal welfare angel.
Working Hard to Serve Their Community and the Animals in Need
Needs to Modernize and the Makeover Would Be Put to Good Us.
Both the Staff and Board of Directors for the SPCA of Lakeland are very compassionate and knowledgeable. For decades they have been committed and have worked so hard to help the greater Lakeland Community of Animals. They plan and execute wonderful fund raisers for the animals. They are so creative and find ways to reach out to our community to raise awareness of their needs whereas the animals benefit. Please consider giving to our SPCA of Lakeland and adopting / rescuing an adoptable pet into your lives.
They have a very compassionate & caring Staff & Board Members
They need to win this makeover
This is a great shelter. It is always clean and the staff are very friendly.
knowledgabel staff, clean facility
The staff has been very helpful when my aunt and cousin adopted their animals. They have been going to this shelter for many years, and will continue to go there. They are great!
I volunteer at the SPCA of Polk County and they are a very clean facility. The staff is always very helpful as well as the volunteers and the staff is also very knowledgeable about animals. We care about the animals and try to find them the forever homes they need. The shelter is also very active in the community and does much to educate the community about animal over population as well as good pet care. The also hold many off site adoption events to help get the animals out in the public eye. You can't go wrong adopting from the SPCA of Polk County.
Excellent staff, very clean, very helpful
dont' have any cons
Wish places like this weren't needed and people would spay/neuter their pets and take care of ones they get. Unfortunately, people don't, so it's nice to know places like the SPCA of Polk County exist. They do a good job keeping the place clean and pets well cared for.
Great place, clean
None I can think of
Congratulations to the excellent staff at the SPCA of Polk County. This is a very well run organization with every type of needed care and service.
Very progressive and excellent facilities for animals
Not on a main highway
My family has adopted Mimi, a wonderful terrier-mix from the SPCA of Polk Co., and it was a fine experience. She is still a great girl, healthy and friendly after almost 7 years...And I have had the plesure of volunteering with the Greatest Folks at the facility...It's no wonder that some of the sweetest pets ever come from the SPCA of Polk Co. !!!
The folks that care for the critters that come in are very loving people. They want the best for both the adoptee, as well as the adopting family...
Unfortunately, they do not have room to keep all the critters until they find homes...
The Lakeland SPCA is an amazing place to adopt a new best friend.
friendly people, wonderful pets
none that I found
I am currently a volunteer at the SPCA of Lakeland and I am proud to be associated with such an outstanding organization! The facilities are clean, the staff is friendly & knowledgeable and the best interests of the pets always come first. The use of cages is at a minimum with cats sharing a nice-sized "catitat" with plenty of toys, condos and perches for them to oversee their domain. The dogs have a good-sized area for them that includes their own outside area; plus they are walked daily. The pets at the Lakeland SPCA are happy! You should come by today and take home a new forever friend!
Staff is very knowledgeable & caring
I have not adopted from the SPCA in Lakeland, Fl, but I have heard great things about them. I am a vet tech student at HCC and one of my fellow classmates volunteers/works there and she is always telling us stories about each animal and the people she works with whenever we meet for class. I am voting for Florida!
vet tech student
This shelter, like so many other shelters in our state are suffering from the economy. They are a decent organization that is trying to deal with a tough situation. They care for as many animals as possible - and, they could really use the funds from this Zootoo contest!
They are caring and trying to make a difference
Not enough resources
I think this is a great place. They offer their services at a very reasonable rates and the people are very nice there.
GOOD DOCTORS, CLEAN, FRIENDLY PEOPELK, REASONABLE PRICES
QUITE A DRIVE FROM MY HOUSE, WISH YOU COULD PICK UP EARLIER THAN 4 AND AFTER 7 AM
I adopted both Leo and Bela back in November, 1999 and can't be happier to have them in my family. Leo and Bela are siblings and the staff at the SPCA was so careful about who was taking the kitties! They wanted to make sure they were going to a good home and family. I'm very glad that they care so much.
Very close to my home, very friendly staff, my vet volunteers at the SPCA and performs whatever services are needed
I can't think of any issues with the SPCA
I got my cat at the SPCA three years ago, and I couldn't have asked for a better pet! He had a little kitty cold when I got him, but they gave him his medicine and he's been happy and healthy every since! Everything was very clean and the animals all looked well taken care of.
Lots of pets to choose from!
I love visiting the shelter to see the pets, just wish I could adopt them all. My cats came from the SPCA and are wonderful little furbabies!
Love the pets and staff!
Leaving without taking all the pets home!
I am a volunteer for the SPCA; walking & playing with dogs, working at fundraisers such as dog walks, auctions, community events, etc. The Lakeland SPCA is made up of dedicated and caring people who help save and find homes for animals on a daily basis. The SPCA also attends community and education functions, and numerous other events to hand out flyers about the importance of spay/neuter and pet ownership/responsibility. Helping these animals that have been surrendered, abused or neglected find safe, loving and forever homes, and educating our community. I'm proud they are in my community and that I can be a part of their organization.
Dedicated & caring staff
Not publicized enough
We've adopted a dog and a cat from the SPCA and have been so happy with both. About a year ago, we adopted "Crookshank" as a kitten. We have enjoyed hours of entertainment with her. Recently, we adopted "Boomer" , our new playmate to our other dog "Sugar". They are getting along great. The staff at the SPCA made the adoption easy, and enjoyable.
Great Staff that Cares
Need more people to adopt these animals
I've been quite active with the Polk County SPCA since July of 2005. Since that time I have been a volunteer, foster parent, and served on the board. The SPCA of Polk County has came a LONG way over the past year and I am quite impressed with where things are heading. I've adopted two animals from there and both have been such a blessing to me and my family. I fostered both first, and then ended up falling in love and providing a furever home. I chose to go to the SPCA for annuals over my vet because I get a much better price through them. You can also buy your flea preventative and heartworms medicines through the SPCA and it helps them out, while saving you money because it is cheaper than most local vets. I would definitely recommend the SPCA to friends and family. Help save a life. Until there are none, adopt one.
Almost 4 years ago we adopted Albert... Albert was born blind and he is the love of our home... Talk about spoiled... anyways the staff at the SPCA in Lakeland was amazing... the helped us through the process and couldn't have been nicer. We often hear the SPCA reps on the radio and they also do a great job. Keep up the good work... Albert may need a buddy soon!! ~Bob
super nice staff
The DIOGI Park is a great way to let your dog(s)have some fun and learn some new tricks. Your dog(s) can run ,play ,and much more. There is two sides. They are the big dog side and the little dog side. If you were by yourself and had two dogs or more that were different sizes ,you should go with the dog that is the scardest dog you have. If you are with two or more people you should split up. If your dog(s) get tired and go head for someone`s water bowl you should walk them to the water fountain. There is two fountains. There is one for humans, and there is one for dogs. If you see your dog(s) going poop or someone`s dog poop don`t just leave it there pick it up. If it smells bad you can keep a air freshener in your pocket ,or you can prepend the smell is a pretty smell from a flower. Sometimes you would want to bring a towel to the park because your dog(s) might drool. My grandma`s dog (U Bee) drools, big time. If your dog(s) are big you should bring a towel for sure.
I have not adopted from the SPCA, but I do volunteer on a regular basis, I usually help with taking pictures for the website. The facility is excellent, and always improving. New areas have been put into the cattery and the puppy room, so that the dogs and cats are not cooped up in cages all day. The staff is wonderful and they truly care about the animals.
staff, animals, everything
of course, space is always an issue
I have not visited the facility, but after visiting our local mall several years ago where the Polk Co. SPCA was holding a pet adopeion, I spotted this beautiful Maine Coon kitty. Several people wanted him but I was victorious in bringing him home to meet his sister, Princess. The staff that brought the animals were all very caring and helpful with the adoption. All the animals looked very well cared for and I don't hesitate to send donations.
Very professional staff
Don't know of any
I have been using the spca for about 10 years. I have never had any problems. The only negative side I had was when you brought an animal in to be fixed it took a long time to process. We adopted 2 cats about 10 years ago and still have them.
It is a good shelter
Wait to get an animal in to be fixed
I have three dogs - yes, I'm a dog lover! My last two have been adopted from this SPCA and I couldn't be happier with my two new furry daughters! While adopting, I was told by the staff everything they knew about the dog. Also, the staff provided their honest opinions about the personality of the dog. Wish I could adopt more but I sure enjoy donating!
This is one of my favorite animal shelters. I try to give them my used towels and blankets and animal toys. My Mom and I send contributions as often as we can.
Knowledgeable & Understanding staff
The folks at the SPCA of Polk County are just great! The facility is in the midst of a major renovation and will soon be able to help many more people find their next best friends! Please consider coming to the site to check out all the pets waiting for you! Go to www.lovemyspca.com and click on adoptions to see photos of the cats and dogs so deserving of a good home! Also, drop by to get your flea treatment and other meds at great prices!
The staff and supporters genuinely care for the pets here
Too little demand for too many pets
This is a wonderful shelter for this community. The shelter needs more community support in order to expand the services they offer and to assist more animals in need.
Very clean facility, friendly knowledgeable staff, provide excellent care for the animals
limited space and resources
I brought kitty as a walk in and got in to see the vet in just a few minutes! Very professional staff! They helped us out and got us on our way! Very reasonable prices! Thank you!
I adopted my first dog from the SPCA at seven and now as a volunteer I can say that they have improved and truly care about the difference they make in the animal community. I love to walk into the puppy and small dog room or one of the catteries and to see an employee baby-talking a stray animal, or gently giving a scratch behind the ear as they pass a cage. I really believe that the volunteers and employees care about the animals and want to help prospective adopters find their true companion. The kennels are always clean, the animals are always well fed, and when you walk in the door you are treated as if you are a valued, long-time customer. They accept any animal off the streets and attempt to rehabilatate and rehome all of them. I love this SPCA and all of the employees and volunteers and I hope that they can provide me with all of my furry companions for years to come!
Large, lots of animals available, knowledgeable, friendly staff
Not enough people to adopt the sweet animals they take in every year
The Lakeland SPCA is a wonderful rescue/adoption organization. The staff is very friendly and they do a great job of getting out into the community. They don't simply rely on people to come to them. The adoption fees are affordable and the veterinary fees at the clinic are highly competitive.\r\n\r\nThe organization has a well-organized foster parenting volunteer program that I've been involved with for more than a year.\r\n\r\nI can't say enough good things about this organization!
Lots of volunteers, beautiful facility
Could be closer to my house!
This SPCA is where we got our dog Bandit. Hes one of the best. He was abandoned and had a chain collor dug into his neck. When me and my mom seen him there we adopted him. Hes 10yrs old now! I vollunteer for this shelter and it one of the best!
not enough vollnteers
I found Daisy 4 1/2 years ago at this facility. It was clean and easy to find and adopt a pet. Daisy is a wonderful cat....they were all so cute, it was hard to leave with only 1!
Very easy to find a new furbaby
Tough to leave all the others!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Polk County SPCA! They are so helpful, so knowldegeable, and so passionate about what they do!! I have been volunteering there and I am so happy to be a part of that organization! The facility is great for an organization of their size, but a makeover would do wonders! If you haven't stopped by, PLEASE DO!! Even if you just visit with the animals for a while, the animals will apreciate it!
Great staff, great animals!
Needs a makeover!!!
I got my cat here when i was 5(she is very old) and she was a wonderful first pet to me and everyone there was nice and helped me pick her out
Nice, well-behaved pets
Great place, friendly staff, and unfortunatly too much inventory of pets. We have adopted two pets from here and highly recomend.
I adopted the most awesome little, wild, and crazy ,puppy, 11 years ago from the SPCA of Lakeland, FLA. He has given me gray hairs, many laughs, wonderful memories, great companionship, and unconditional, and undying love. My life has been more than enriched by my dogs, they have given me everything, and asked for very little. PJ and BayLee are confirmation that God really does love us, by sending us little angels that walk by our side; protecting us, loving us, and reminding us that the small blessings (on four legs) are the ones that are the biggest!
Awesome animals that need us!
Not enough people that adopt them
This shelter is amazing . They let the people who are interested take out the animals play with them. I love this shelter.
We have adopted 4 dogs and a cat from our\r\nSPCA and enjoy them all. Our Black Lab was the very first to be spad in the, at the time, new clinic.\r\nOf course that was 8 years ago and they have out grown the original clinic.\r\n\r\nWe've donated to SPCA, not as much as we'd like,\r\nbut love having it available to the people of\r\nLakeland and Polk County FL.\r\n\r\n
We have done well bye SPCA
Not enough room, shelter, for all dogs/cats/other.
Got our dog from Polk SPCA, she's the best! SPCA Polk County is a great organization, staffed by caring and motivated people who really want to help these animals find their forever homes!!
Clean, nice staff, = happier animals
Cramped and needs new roof/makeover
This place is great! My family use to adopt cats from here and they always have been wonderful.
I've adopted a few pets here and have always been treated professionally and respectfully . These people truly care about their animals and the family that adopts them. They researched to be sure my pets were up to date with their Vet care, etc. They fitted the bill for Abby's heartworm treatment making it possible for her to\r\ncome live with us and I'm thankful everyday!
Now with extended hours
They sometimes choose strange names for the animals LOL
we are thankful we have this wonderful group in this county. unfortunately there are many in polk county who allow their cats and dogs to breed and then neglect the offspring, dumpt them off somewhere or they end up at the spca where they are euthanized. this spca runs a great neutering and spaying program where the fees are reasonable. the wellness clinic is excellent with very caring staff and very clean. i use them for my cats and dog all the time for shots, etc. i have also bought several cats to them that i have found abandoned and malnourished and they always take them in. my only wish is that they could grow and expand, hire more staff with enough people to go out and educate the community!
caring people, clean, good rates for health care
not enough room and staff
I love the wellness clinic at the SPCA. The prices are very reasonable. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They work with difficult pets. My 110 pound great dane mix doesn't like to be poked and prodded and they try hard to give her the best care they can. They go the extra mile. No appointments are necessary so I can show up when it's convenient for me. Unfortunately because of that I have to wait a while (sometimes up to and hour or more) but the people there are a lot of fun to talk to and even sitting in the waiting room can be fun.
Very reasonable prices
I think the SPCA is a wonderful place to go to get your animal!!!!!!!!!!!!
not enough stuff
Great town, great place, great people and beautiful animals in need of a forever home.
Helping poor homeless animals
Not open enough hours to help adopt pets. Please more help
I have never seen such a caring and helpful staff at any Vet office and they offer everything at a lower price. How can you beat it? All the profits benefit unwanted animals - that makes me feel good.
Wonderful Caring Doctors and Staff
Too many unwanted pets for them to save
I am an outside volunteer for the SPCA, working at fundraisers such as dog walks, auctions, community events, doing adoptathons, etc., and I can tell you that these dedicated and caring people go to extremes to help save and find homes for every animal. I brought in a kitten I trapped several years ago with a terrible eye infection. Instead of thinking that it would be too costly to treat it, and that they probably already had plenty of kittens for adoption, the SPCA put this little kitten through their Guardian Angel program. After treatment, and minus one eye, he was adopted by a great family. The SPCA also attends community and educational functions, and numerous other events to hand out flyers about the importance of spay/neuter and pet ownership/responsibility. Helping these animals that have been surrendered, abused or neglected find safe, loving and forever homes, and educating our community - these are the things the SPCA of Lakeland is all about.
Caring that every animal has a chance for a good life.
Needing more space so that they can better serve the enormous amount of animals surrendered in our community.
I have volunteered with the SPCA for over 10 years, mainly with outside events. I love supporting this organization by helping with the fundraisers. Auction for the Animals is coming up on Nov 1st - this is a major event. If you have never gone to this fundraiser - you are missing out. We still need helpers call Mary. Many opportunities throught the year to help raise money to support these beautiful creatures.
They know how to get animals a permanent home
I currently volunteer at this shelter and I absolutely love it. I have been volunteering for the past year and have seen so many great changes come to the SPCA. I love going and playing with the animals, the shelter gives their volunteers so much freedom to come and go and choose whatever animal or animals they would like to play with that day. It is so wonderful just going there and playing in fact, if it wasn't for the SPCA I don't know where I would de-stress!! :)
Very knowledgeable staff
Not a very welcoming environment
My family has adopted four wonderful pets from here! Our first dog lived til she was 18 years old and he had her for a good 17 years of it. We adopted two cats too and we love them so much. I'm so thankful to this shelter and how much they help the animals of our community!
They are caring people.
The place needs more money to fix up the place.
I have grown up with the SPCA, either volunteering, adopting, or family members doing such. I grew up here in lakeland, and the SPCA is the only facility in the area that really cares about the pets that they take in and adopt out.
Saving innocent Animals
I've been coming to the sleter for years and it needs a makeover!!!
Always able to assist, never critical of visitors.
Small shelter, needs more room!!
I've been involved with breed rescue for many years and have visited a LOT of shelters. this is one of the cleanest, most pleasant (if any shelter can be said to be pleasant) one I've seen. Staff is great and the animals are well cared for.
A well-run shelter that cares
As with all shelters, it's sad that we even have to have them
I have been a volunteer with the SPCA, Inc. of Polk County for many years because their mission is to help all of God's creatures whether they be 2 or 4 legged, and that my friends is a cause more than worth any time or effort I may expend helping them.
Finding homes for fur babies that need them. Caring about all the furried friends that come through their doors.
People giving up animals because they are sick or old or they just want a new puppy.
this is a great great place, I have done their walk for the animals, taken my pets for their vaccinations, and have gotten animals from there, it's a wonderful place.
they really care about animals!
the price to adopt an animal there have gotten really expensive and I hope that doesn't discourage people from adopting.
I got my baby from the SPCA of Polk County and I don't have ANY regrets. My dog has got the best personality. And just recently we have just found her sister who was also at the SPCA while we got Jasmin.
All employees and volunteers were very cordial and were experienced
I took my 2 cats to be fixed here. All went well.
I got my dog Ginger here... she was so sad looking until I asked to see her and we went outside. The employees there were more than happy to match us together as a family. Ginger hadn't been fixed yet, so she had to stay a few more days to get that done and get her shots. They did a great job, according to my regular vet. I would definitely go back there if I ever decided to get another pet.
clean facilities, very friendly and sincerely genuine employees
the sad faces of the pets until you take them home
ITS GOOD THE ADOPTED ANIMAL BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE RIGTH THE HAVE A GOOD PLACE TO LIVE ...
ADOPTED A ANIMAL
LOVE TO ANIMALS
