  • 1. Wonderful Shelter!

    by: Kristin1991

I adopted my Pit Bull mix Jake (Was named Slim) from this shelter. The shelter is clean and all of the animals are well taken care of and healthy. When we adopted him he already had some basic training done too, which was a plus.

  • 4. Absolutely Awesome!

    by: JessM

I loved volunteering at SPAC over the summer! Everyone was so nice and friendly - and of course the dogs were great. The knowledgeable staff was always willing/ready to answer my questions and assist me with anything I needed. I miss not being able to get there during the school year, but with teaching, being coordinator for three different activities/programs, and planning a wedding, I never seem to have a moment to go visit everyone. I can't wait until the summer comes so I can see everyone again and get to walk/play with all the great dogs. \r\n\r\nThis is a great shelter that really knows their stuff and truly love taking care of animals. I feel privledged to get to volunteer there, and I tell everyone who even slightly mentions wanting a pet to go to SPAC.

    Pros

    Great staff, Very Clean

    Cons

  • 5. A great Little Shelter

    by: Mims

Great care and hard work goes into maintaining this shelter...with limited personnel. Wonderful people work here...lots of love is showered on the dogs and cats that make their temporary home here.\r\n\r\nThe shelter is not big, it needs to be upgraded, but the effort put into keeping it as clean and welcoming as possible is top notch.\r\n\r\nVisit it sometime...you might find your next love there.

    Pros

    Very caring dedicated staff

    Cons

Needs to upgrade its facility...which they work hard to do.

The Sayreville Pet Adoption Center is a great place! My 11 year old daughter fell in love with the animals there. We have adopted one day from SPAC - the best dog ever!! The staff is the best!!!

    Pros

    Cons

    So many cats

  • 7. Great place

    by: VampiricAngel

I've adopted two cats from this place, one unfortunately has passed on some time ago. The other is Sassy, who is alive and well! The staff are very kind to the animals! The cats and dogs are separated in different rooms. Some of the dogs have little runs that lead outside! Sometimes they let some of the friendlier cats roam around and stretch their legs. I think its great that they still take good care and medicate the sicker animals, and separate them from the well until they get better. They're also very good with spaying/neutering. Definitely recommended!

    Pros

Shares the building with a veterinary hospital, animals get up to date care! No-kill shelter!

    Cons

Small area to work with, though they do their best

  • 8. Where I Found My Heart... Twice

    by: wolflover919

I adopted my beloved Shadow from SPAC on March 30, 2002. At the time, she was a 6 year old black lab/shepard mix and just the sweetest dog anyone could ever ask for. She made her trip over the Rainbow Bridge this past October 1st and it broke my heart to let her go but it was the best thing for her. I didn't think I'd ever want another dog b/c I was pretty devastated by Shadow's loss. Well, I couldn't help myself and went to SPAC online to see what other angel was waiting for me and there I found 4 month old husky/shepard mix Jake (f/k/a Duke). What a handsome little boy!! I looked at his picture online every day for two weeks and realized I needed to meet him in person, so I went to SPAC that Friday during lunch break, and then I went back after work to fill out the adoption application. My family and I returned the next day so everyone could meet Jake and a couple hours later we brought our newest baby home. I can't express how wonderful the staff at SPAC was... it was a crazy, chaotic day with so many people there to pick up the animals they had been approved to adopt (YAY!!) but Barbara didn't lose sight of my family for one minute and I even got a great big hug after the adoption was completed. From the first time I went there to adopt Shadow it's always felt like a place where the animals are loved and cared deeply for and that's why I went back...

    Pros

Everyone is kind, compassionate, knowledgeable and has the best intentions for the animals.

    Cons

A lot of work with never enough to work with...

    by: daryan10

Any animal that is unfortunate enough to find themselves homeless would be very, very lucky to have SPAC as thier temporary home. You will not find a shelter with a more dedicated, compassionate, caring bunch of staff and volunteers. It never ceases to amaze me what wonders they do for the animals in their care, with what little they have. \r\n\r\nI was taught a profound love of animals by my dear Grandmother and I have passed that love down to my son. We started going to SPAC when he was younger just to drop off donations and look at the dogs and play with the cats. I ended up adopting my second cat, Flame, from SPAC and I can not even begin to tell you how much joy and love that little boy has brought to our lives. He was there for 9 months and kept getting passed over until, one day, he found us!! I will be forever grateful to SPAC for taking such good care of him until we found each other and I was given the priviledge of adopting him and making him a part of our family.\r\nSoon, we were stopping by more and more, until one day they asked me if I'd like to volunteer. I started walking the dogs and giving the kitties some attention while I was there too. It is impossible not to fall in love with these animals. I can tell you firsthand, that these animals are very much loved and so well cared for at SPAC. The staff will be very honest with you about any pet you'd potentially like to adopt because they have only one mission.... to find the very best home for each and every animal in their care.\r\nI don't get there as much as I'd like to, but this shelter and the animals and people there are ALWAYS close to my heart!\r\nStop by sometime and you'll see what I mean!\r\nAnd always, make adoption your first option!!

    Pros

Incredibly dedicated and knowledgable staff and volunteers, clean, friendly. The love for the animals is obvious!

    Cons

None really, except they could sure use some more space

  • 11. Support SPAC!

    by: KuteKuma

This great place has a wonderful, devoted group of staff and volunteers. Everybody should consider adopting one of the many animals that they care for on a daily basis. Can’t adopt? Then support SPAC by donating items, sharing your time, or giving financial contributions. The love dedicated to all these animals, there for whatever reason, is profound! I am very grateful to have a place like this exist. Thank you! \r\n

    by: avant1963

Ok, I may be a little biased because I'm related to Barb Keegan, the great Manager of the Sayreville Pet Adoption Center, but anyone who visits the SPAC can see that everyone there is family. There is a very loving staff, that are concerned about all the animals and finding them great homes. I am proud to volunteer there and help out such a great place.
