    by: Jess10278

So out of curiosity..what would you do if someone adopted a pet from you and the new owner found out that the new pet has ringworm??? Let me answer that question for you...YOU would not help in any way shape or form and YOU would rather put down the animal and their brothers/sisters because YOU say that YOU don't have the means/money to take care of the animals. How do I know this, because I adopted a sweet kitten from YOU and if it wasn't for ME, she would not be here because she was part of the litter that YOU killed!

    Pros

    Nothing

    Cons

    Everything

  • 3. Safeharbor keeps the best interest of animals at heart

    by: CiDaniels

I work with Safeharbor Humane Society as a volunteer - I think they do a phenominal job! With all the chaos of visitors, animals and volunteers, they are still well organized, clean and friendly. The animals are well served by their efforts.

    Pros

Safeharbor does wonders with the resources available. They always have the best interest of the animals at heart.

    Cons

Safeharbor could always use funding, donations and resources to further their efforts.

When you go to SHHS you will find an amazing staff that works incredibly hard to keep their doors open. This shelter always smells wonderful which is diffucult to find these days. Animals are not crowded into cages and everyone gets indivdual attention.

    Clean, Helpful Staff,

  • 5. My experience

    by: margiecovelli50

I found all three of my dogs at Safe Harbor, all at different times. They are still the loves of my life! They have also been extremely helpful because every year I have several stray cats just "show up" at my house. I have personally taken in two, and along with the dogs I was pretty maxed out on how many animals I could handle. So I had managed to catch 3 of the other cats on three separate occasions(it wasn't hard because they were extremely friendly and obviously at one time had homes) and called Safe Harbor. They took the poor kitties for me and said they would find them homes. I was so happy because I worried so much about their safety on the streets. Thanks Safe Harbor!

    Pros

    warm,friendly people

    Cons

  • 6. I love this place!

    by: kylielove

I'm a volunteer at Safe Harbour, and I always enjoy going there because of the friendly and knowledgeable staff. They help me out with any questions I have about the animals and make me feel welcome every time I come. I'd recommend volunteering at Safe Harbour to anyone in the area who has some free time on their hands.

    Pros

The staff is very friendly and they all really love the job they're doing

    Cons

Don't always have enough staff available to answer all of my questions

  • 7. Kenosha's YUM PET SPA's SHADOW was adopted from Safe Harbor...

    by: dogswork2

Shadow was adopted in 1998 when she was a puppy from Safe Harbor. Her owner was very impressed with the cleanliness (extremely clean!) in spite of all the animals. All the pets seemed very well cared for and the staff really seemed to enjoy taking care of them. Many visits were made to the facility while trying to decide if Shadow was going to be the right dog (the staff was always friendly, professional and eager to help)...and it turned out Shadow was just PERFECT!! ***Shadow wasn't the only pet that was adopted from Safe Harbor in the family--Shadow's owner truly believes that the BEST pets are ADOPTED pets!!

    Pros

Staff makes certain they take proper measures to ensure pet has found the right home.

    Cons

    None

  • 8. Very nice shelter :)

    by: RobWen31

I volunteer at Safe Harbor Humane Society, it's a very nice humane society with a very knowledgeable staff. They cater to the special needs of cats and dogs should special attention be required. One cat in particular, Mit, has a cataract in one eye and lost vision in the other due to a fight with a dog (most likely) before he was dropped off as a stray. SFHS raised enough money to get him surgery to possibly fix the cataract and reomve the damaged eye. Most of the dogs are friendly and all they want is a little attention. I dropped one of my old kitties, Blinky, and he was adopted out of there in three weeks. I do recommend this place to people due the nice, caring staff and the loving animals.

    Pros

Animals are treated very nicely and cared for exceptionally.

    Cons

Kind of small and the dog spaces are kind of old and weathered.

  • 9. Good people

    by: sati769leigh

These folks need all the help they can get. They are always crowded with poor animals who need homes!!

    Pros

they truly care about the animals they shelter

    Cons

they are always crowded and have too many animals

  • 10. This is a great place

    by: purplepetunia

The staff tries very hard to continually improve the place and to do successful fundraisers, including Woofstock at the end of the summer, which gets bigger every year... has lots of music, an obstical course for dogs, lots of food booths, some rescue organizations and more. We got our Rottweiler there after my husband had been volunteering there and walking dogs for fun to keep them socialized. I walked a few myself, the day we went to see if we wanted to adopt a dog or not, and I was surprised and how many nice well behaved dogs they have available. I used to think that the dogs in a shelter must all be wild and not well behaved, but I was wrong. I was not keen on getting such a big dog, but he turned out to be pretty well trained already, altho I didn't know the right way to communicate with him, so I took him and me to obedience class at Foster's in Antioch for 8 weeks of Basic Obedience, and it made him into a real sweetheart. Now I know how to talk to him, and he ususally listens and does what I want him to.

    Pros

    Friendly knowledgable compassionate staff

    Cons

small kennels, could use remodeling of kennels (after seeing some updated shelters)
