  • 2. Great Place -

    by: jafish812

Everyone at QHS was very friendly and you could tell they all truly care for the animals. I recently adopted a puppy and they were very knowledgable about the puppy and about services for my puppy in the area! They even helped me get "squeezed" into a local groomer to have him shampooed and trimmed! I am looking forward to the opportunity to walk in the Mutt Strutt this fall. The facility is very new and very clean! I would recommend adopting a pet from QHS to anyone looking to adopt!

    Pros

Friendly Staff, New Facility, Great Services

    Cons

    Can't think of any....

  • 3. A Fine Facility

    by: Lilymo

I have not adopted from here, but I go periodically to drop off supplies. The employees are kind and the building is clean and well kept. As far as shelters go, it is a nice place for the animals to stay while they wait to be adopted by loving families.

    Pros

    New, clean

    Cons

    none I know of

  • 4. A beautiful facility with kind staff

    by: Djitomate

I have not adopted an animal from QHS, but I did have the opportunity to tour the facility when I dropped off some donations. The shelter is very clean and the staff was friendly. The animal areas are spacious. My young neice attended day camp at the shelter this summer. She had a great time and learned a lot. She was able to learn about horses hands on and was able to bathe a dog. She talked about it for weeks after. I encourage people in the area who are looking for a pet to look to QHS first.

    Pros

    Very clean and good programs

    Cons

    none that I know

  • 5. A Great bunch

    by: JulieQHS

I have never met a more caring bunch of people than the ones that give of their time, sweat and tears than the people at Quincy Humane Society. It shows in the animals that are living there and the smiles on the peoples faces that have adopted their pets from there.

  • 7. Glowing review

    by: muttlvr

I had written a glowing review for QHS once before. But I didn't know about the fishbowls at that time and it came out with a rating of 1! I wrote to zoo-too and they couldn't fix it. So they deleted the review and said I could do it over. \r\n\r\nI've been volunteering for this shelter for almost 2 decades. I've seen it evolve from a basic holding cell kind of place to a clean, compassionate, "no-kill" shelter with a staff dedicated to staying informed and willing to try new ideas. They have a low-cost spay-neuter clinic, free roaming cat rooms, doggy living rooms through which house trained dogs can take turns in order to maintain their house skills. They have a trainer on staff. They temperament test and health test all animals before adoption. They also have leaky roofs, inadequate space, inadequate room for isolation and a myriad of other problems with their out-dated and dilapidated facility. \r\n\r\nFortunately the wonderful new facility is just about ready for occupancy. Unfortunately we still need money to finish paying for it and money to run it...the age old problem for all rescue groups. This is already the finest animal rescue facility for several counties, a real miracle in this somewhat rural area with a small population base for support. But when the new facility opens, with its full time low cost vet clinic and its exotic animal room, kitten room, free roaming cat room, play area for the dogs, education facilities, etc. it will be one of the best things that could happen for animals and animal lovers alike - able to give world class service at last.

    Pros

Dedicated staff and volunteers - "no-kill" shelter

    Cons

    Current location is too small

  • 9. QHS a good place for pets and the people who love them.

    by: dah

I have dealt with the shelter for many years. I have adopted my dogs from them and I also trusted them to find a perfect match for a dog for my grandson. They have always come through for my family. All of their events are well run and well attended, with great community support. They provide a wonderful service for our area and the animals and people they serve so well.

    Pros

The staff care about each animal they take care of and treat them each with respect.

    Cons

The current shelter is vey out dated, but they will be moving to a new facility very soon.

  • 10. Wonderful!

    by: kralexan

When I was younger, I begged and begged my family to get a dog. After years of pleading my case, they finally agreed, and although we live in Columbus, Ohio, we went to the Quincy Humane Society because we knew they would find us the perfect pet. They exceeded our expectations, and that first dog got us hooked on dogs for life. We have adopted a total of three dogs and three cats from Quincy and it is totally worth the trip for us. The staff and volunteers are amazing and extremely knowledgeable. They can help you pick the perfect new addition to your family.

    Pros

no kill, amzing staff and volunteers

    Cons

not enough space for all animals in need

  • 11. Great Prices

  • 12. My Boyfriend and I have found two fantastic dogs!

    by: duh80

July will be our 3rd anniversary with Toby (Zanie). When we got Toby he was 12 weeks old, 6 pounds & teenie tiny, he had such a great personality, I knew he was the one. I asked how big he would get. The answer, he's a beagle terrier mix, 30 lbs tops. He is 65 pounds and looks more like a greyhound/walker coon hound mix, but I wouldn't want it any other way!\r\n\r\nWe found Walter in August of 2007. The humane society had dogs at 25th & Broadway and I just wanted to look and say hi to all the homeless pets. When we walked in we saw Walter (Rocky), he was a mini Toby! Similar colors and features (especially when Toby was a puppy). I was nervous he would get as big as Toby (we can't have two adults & two 65 lb dogs in bed every night!), but we were told he was 6 or 7 months old. We took him home and named him Walter. \r\n\r\nSometimes I think Toby would wish Walter would just go away, but Walter adores Toby. A friend came over right around the time Walter was getting comfy in our home and commented "Watching those two play is better than TV!" \r\n\r\nMy only regret is not knowing their stories. Toby was young when we got him and he has always been "our" dog. I know why he does the things he does. Toby is a sweetheart because he received nothing but love when we brought him home. He is a 65 lb lapdog, because we didn't know he would get so big. He gives high fives on command because my roomate taught him that. He is interested in people food, he will watch us eat, but doesn't beg, because we never got in the habit of giving him people food.\r\n\r\nWalter, on the other hand, is a different story. He was 6 or 7 months old. His name was Rocky and he stole ice cubes out of a cooler when we met him. We have found out he would do anything for people food. He raises his paw to beg. He also "sits pretty," that's what my Grandma calls it. He gives hugs, and must at all times burrow under a blanket in order to get comfy. He has been a sweet, loving dog from the second we brought him home. I would love to know why. I hope he just had a wonderful foster home until we adopted him, because I do not know why anyone would have given him up. \r\n\r\nI want to thank the Quincy Humane Society for two bestfriends. Best wishes & I can't wait to see the new facility!\r\n\r\nAmanda & Carl

  • 16. QHS is our best experience with pet adoption

    by: nannerswolf

Over the last 17 years, my family has been adopting from QHS, even though it is no where near our location. They are that fantastic. When we adopt there we know that we are getting the full story on our new family member. This has definetely not been true of other places that we have worked with. \r\n\r\nAny pet we have gotten there has had a clean bill of health and has obviously been well cared for from the second they entered the doors at QHS. I would recommend that anyone looking for a quality adoption go straight to QHS. I know that I (and 2 my cats) are grateful that I did.

    Pros

Knowledgeable staff, well thought out process, dedicated and passionate volunteers

    Cons

  • 17. We travel hundred of miles to adopt from Quincy

    by: darby8251

    by: odinsmom

Quincy Humane Society goes out of its way to find ways to introduce the shelter animals to the public for adoption and also to educate the general public to the need for spay and neuter programs. QHS is dedicated to finding quality homes for the adoptees and it is involved in many activities to raise funds and make itself a prominent name in the area.

    Pros

No Kill, versitile and active, proactive, friendly, growing, caring

    Cons

  • 19. pet supplies plus

    by: ztT4MP99182191_DEAD

Pet Supplies Plus is a great place to purchase pet and pet related merchandise. But, if your nonprofit organization is asked to go there for a fund raiser, beware--they don't keep on tope of their scheculed "outside" events nor do the do advertising to help promote your organization. This is very disappointing to go thru, when your particular organization is scheduled for a promotional event and no one at Pet Supplies Plus acknowledges you are there and they do not have more than a 5 foot square for the organization to set up.

    Pros

    great selection of products

    Cons

    unsupported promotions

  • 36. Read in the Quincy Paper -- Quincy Humane Society

    by: pwrinda

The Quincy Humane Society is a wonderful place. I obtained my first two cats from them. A two for one deal -- they were 2 abandoned kitties that were adorable. They have since passed, but because of our concern for overpopulation of animals, refuse to buy animals when there are so many wonderful animals to adopt. The QHS goes out of its way to care for its customers and animals and i hope they get their new building soon.

We rescued our 3rd Boxer this summer from Quincy Human Society and had a wonderful experience! She came with all of her shots and was spayed before we adopted her. We are so happy that they saved her from the puppy mill she came from, and we are even happier that we found her at Quincy and that she is a part of our family. Quincy periodically checks in with us to see how our addition is doing, and that pleases us because it shows how much they care!

  • 58. Quality care for both their human and animal friends!

    by: sera

The Quincy Humane Society is a great place to adopt animals. I recently adopted my kitten from them and had a very happy experience. My kitty was a sick kitty because she has a very sensitive immune system. After adopting her, the Human Society had no obligation to help me any further, but they did. They could have pushed me off to a vet, but they didn't. They were quite willing to answer my paranoid questions and never made me feel as if I were being silly or bothering them.\r\n\r\nI am also a volunteer for The Quincy Humane Society. They treat their volunteers with such respect. I wouldn't dream of ever bringing home a new pet from anywhere else!

    Pros

knowledge, empathy, love, and general concern for the well being of animals

    Cons

    none

    Cons

We desperatley need more room and more money for equipment.

I think the Quincy Humane Society is a great place for animals while they are waiting to find new homes. We are currentlly in the process of building a new facility, and there we will be able to offer more services to people and their pets. Great place to work. :)
