Great big park, including dog beach! While there are specific off-leash hours, it's not rare to find well behaved dogs off of their leash playing fetch in the big field. ;)

huge field lots of other dogs

    lame off leash hours

i love prospect park, and i love taking my dog there, but being limited to before 9am and after 9pm is kinda sucky, especially during the summer. it would be really great if prospect park got it together and built a closed in dog run, maybe in the nethermeade where all the dogs hang out anyway, that way they could have a 24/7 off leash space.

    clean, spacious

    limited off leash hours

...that i'm going to move right down the block from it. Seriously though, its a little bit of country right in the middle of brooklyn. Go enjoy but be mindful of leash laws.

I highly recommend you bring your dog or dogs to Prospect park during off leash hours from 6-9am on the weekend and/or after 9pm daily. I try to bring my dog once on the weekend and Argos loves it. It is a great opportuntiy to interact with your dog and to be able to socialize with lots of other dogs and breeds of all sizes. It is a very friendly atmosphere with plenty of open space for your dog to run, play, and meet its playmates.

Excellent for socializing dogs, great exercise, friendly atmosphere

hours for off leash is not long enough

    by: loricarvajal

We always go after 9pm cause that's when the off leash hours start at the Long Medow and Nethermead. We always walk up to the Long Medow cause the Nethermead is too dark. As soon as they smell grass they start to go CRAZY jumping as high as horsies. It's so cute, I love to see them so happy. As soon as the leashes come off, they take advantage of the whole field. Running up and down and back and forth and tumbling and wrestling as we walk along. They get along with other dogs pretty well but normally there's not too many there at that time. We have friends with big dogs that sometimes come out with us. It's easier for us to watch them play with big dogs than with little dogs. Our dogs play very rough but they're sweet.

    We have a blast!

In the summer- the BBQ garbage

We love bringing Argos to play in the mornings and evenings during off lease hours. He gets so much exercise and socializes with other dogs and people. He has so much fun and we have fun watching him. Argos has made some really nice friends and so have we!

Lots of friends play at the park

Not that well lite at night

We love Prospect park, but sometimes owners have their dogs off the leash at the wrong hours and since our dog is leashed it creates a problem.

Just a great place in the city

Some dog owners don't obey the off leash rules

    by: guitargirl

This is a beautiful park in the heart of Brooklyn and you can let your dog off-leash at certain hours. This is a wonderful chance for them to romp and play with other dogs. The only negative is that it can attract a strange group of people who will bring aggressive dogs so watch out for this.

Doesn't get much better than this

    Sometimes people are weird

Our Australian Shepherd loves prospect park, and so do lots of other dogs. There are LOTS of dogs in the park, but because of its size and design, it never feels crowded. The dog beach is awesome - it is a fenced off shallow end of a pond just for dogs. The only downside is the mass of trash that can be found by excited dogs after a sunny day. One dog walker said, "it's like a deli exploded."

    Dog Beach!

Mornings after a sunny day - lots of trash around
