    by: jfinch

Attitude makes all the difference, and these folks have a very positive attitude in a very stressful job. Getting the pets into homes instead of euthanizing them is goal one. Thank you for all you do.

    Pros

Better here than at so many other places

    Cons

    None

  • 2. Shelters working together

    by: Specialpals

So many people have no idea that animal control agencies work with other animal shelters and breed rescues; they do everything in the power not to have to terminate a healthy animal. They work several hours contacting rescue groups for assistance but unfortunately there are 10 animals to the 1 human in the USA. Over 3,500 animals are born EVERY HOUR compared to only 400 children each hour.\r\n\r\nWe need to control the pet population, please spay and neuter your pet today!

    Pros

Helpful when it comes to transfering animals to shelters

    Cons

They need more kennel space since the area is growing so much

this really is the best shelter. i got my dog here adn she was only $80! that included the chip and all the shots she needed at the time.they really care about thier pets. every single one of them had food and water and are loved and cared for daily. not to long ago me, my friend, and my teacher from a year ago did a bake sale and had it to where the petts could take their pic. with santa and we raised about $350 and donated it all to pearland animal shelter. this really is the best shelter!

    by: Kelloggs322

This facility is full of caring individuals that want to find homes for all the adoptable pets that come through thier facility. Unfortunately, the city is outgrowing the facility. They could use an upgrade and some organization. I've been trying to volunteer at this shelter for about 6 months, but they can never seem to schedule or inform me when a volunteer training session will be. I still love them, and the work that they are doing. Keep up the good work.

    Pros

    very knowledgable and friendly staff

    Cons

could be more organized, facility is small

  • 9. Helped me in a time of crisis!

    by: pearlandgirl

I currently have two (2) family members that were adopted from this shelter -- Sandy, our dog, and Monkeyface, our cat. Each has brought incredible love to our family. This shelter has a special place in my heart. Approximately two (2) years ago, I awoke to the sound of my 20 yr. old friend - Sebastian - passing away. I know many of you have gone through this as your loved ones have passed, and understand what a trying time it can be. My children and I said our goodbyes, and Sebastian was barely with us. I wrapped him in a blanket and carried him to a local vet, where I was turned away because the vet wasn't available. I was crying hysterically, and just drove, not sure where I was going. I ended up at the Pearland Shelter and as I was getting out of my car, Shari, the shelter supervisor, saw me with Sebastian and knew immediately what was going on. She was so compassionate and caring, and ushered me inside. She took Sebastian from me and gave him a sedative to help relax him and then she handed him back to me. He was finally able to relax and he passed away as I told him it was okay to go and that he had brought so much to my life and how much I loved him. Shari and her staff never left our side, and provided me with such comfort --- beyond what was "required" in the their job description. They understood and cared about me and my loved one, and that meant so much to me. Thank you!!

    Pros

Clean, caring, great customer service, and knowlegeable!

    Cons

  • 10. Great Experience

    by: Bonnnie

I have both volunteered and adopted a pet at this shelter. The staff are wonderful people and do everything they can for each and every animal. They really enforce getting your pet spayed/neutered as you are not allowed to adopt a pet without doing so. So...basically...I love this shelter and they definantly deserve a makeover.

    Pros

Staff are friendly and really care about animals

    Cons

We got our dog from here. she was a stray and had been very well taken care of until we found her and adopted her. When she was "arrested" after escaping from the yard, they tried very hard to return to her to us. Luckily she is chipped and they were able to call us and come by our house since she had lost her collar!

hard to leave without taking all the animals with me!

    by: wildmcat

My husband found a small cat laying in the wheel well of his truck. We did not know if it was sick, rapid, or injured. He went over to it and it never moved. He started my car next to the truck and the cat never moved. Finally we called the shelter and Melissa came over to assist. She was very nice and pulled put the cat in carrier and brought her to the shelter. We all saw that this cat was just very frightened and perhaps was an indoor cat that got out. We asked what would happen to her and Melissa said if we were interested to come over and fill out papers to adopt if noone claimed her. We did so and we found that this shelter is extremely cleaned with no odors. The animals appear well cared for. The staff are extremely proffessional. We are now waiting to see if we will be bringing this little kitty home.

    Pros

This is a very well versed staff. They were very friendly

  • 16. Great Place for a Scouting Field Trip

    by: corbinrogers

My daughter's Brownie Troop recently visited this shelter and they were given a tour. The staff was great with the girls and listened to every question the girls had about the animals. The girls made sock toys for the kittens and brought store bought toys for the dogs. It was a wonderful trip for girls.

    Pros

Great Place for a Field Trip

    Cons

    Small Shelter
