    by: kathrynnj

I've never been to PAWS Atlanta in person (but will go someday soon next time I'm in Georgia) but I've heard good things. I also have added them on MySpace and I am not sure who runs the page, but they seem very nice and helpful. \n\nHope to visit you guys eventually!

    Pros

    no-kill shelter in Georgia? Awesome!

    Cons

    i wouldn't know

  • 2. THUMBS up to PAWS!

    by: wezlart

Before the holidays, we went in to view small dogs. They had several beautiful dogs, large and small. The facilities were kept very clean, and the staff was nice. Going online, watching the On Demand local section, and visiting, you get to know the animals. You cheer when a long-term resident finds their forever home. The outside "getting to know you" area for dogs is well-maintained and provides a pleasant experience, even though they are located on a busy road.\r\nI learned of the facility after our 12 yo greyhound rescue went on an extended romp. They were very helpful, taking flyers and keeping in touch until we were able to locate him.

    Pros

Wonderful, helpful staff. They are an asset to the community. SEe the animals online, On Demand local, or in-person

    Cons

Not enough space for viewing inside (it can get crowded with visitors), need more volunteers

    by: NatalieIngram

I have volunteered and donated to PAWS over the last year or so. Every time my husband and I visit the shelter, I am impressed by how clean it is and the interest shown by the staff, volunteers and potential volunteers. I love knowing that I am supporting an organization that loves animals as much as I do and is commited to providing them with love, food and shelter until they can find a home!! If you are looking for a loving pet, I guarantee you can find one here!!!!

    Pros

    Great staff and great animals

    Cons

    Haven't come across any

  • 5. PAWS - a wonderful outlet for getting animals adopted

    by: prveluri

I volunteered at this shelter first and enjoyed walking the large dogs. I also participated in events which would raise money for the shelter. These were memorable and great money generating experiences. After I could no longer volunteer, PAWS gave ample opportunity to donate and assist in other ways via their events. They have a nice outlet for adoptions on Comcast and are very accessible to the public. They give great deals on shots and vaccinations. Not only have I adopted one of my cats there, but also I have taken my dogs there for their annual vaccinations. This shelter is a wonderful place for animals - caring staff, a nice walking trail, and events to always help the animals.

    Pros

The promotion and media for getting animals adopted

    Cons

    nothing

  • 6. Good Vetting for low income

    by: rshcraig

I took my dog in for the low cost microchip. I had a question so I called a few days before hand. No answer, left a message to call me back, and never heard anything. Website said you could just show up, so I drove 45 minutes to be told I needed an appointment. It was frustrating for me, but considering how busy they are helping homeless animals, I didn't let it get to me. The people were very friendly!

    Pros

Great prices for vetting, friendly staff, no kill shelter

    Cons

    Had a scheduling issue

  • 7. great vaccination clinic

    by: sherlene

I took my dog there for his vaccinations a month ago. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly There was a lot of people there but the staff was well organized and the wait wasn't long. The cost was very affordable. I will use the vaccination clinic again.

    by: DeniseEaden

If any shelter deserves a makeover, PAWS Atlanta does. They put the animals' needs above all else, train the animals to help with adoption, have a friendly and knowledgeable staff, and a great core group of volunteers. My Maggie came to live with me through PAWS. Thank you!

    Pros

    Wonderful, caring people.

    Cons

    they need more room!

  • 10. I LOVE PAWS!

    by: hmarcus

I have been volunteering at PAWS for 4 years and this shelter holds a special place in my heart. The dogs genuinely seem to be treated well, they get plenty of food, water and exercise. The website is constantly updated so you really know what dogs and cats are coming in and out. This shelter cares for animals, and has saved so many lives. The people who work there are angels in my eyes.

    Pros

Room for dogs to run, know alot about current dogs

    Cons

inside area for dogs could be bigger

    by: patrick1369

I visited Paws Atlanta several years ago and left with the sweetest dog - she was named Fluffy at the time - who had been dumped there after having lived with a previous own for about a year. the previous owner no longer wanted a pet. Fluffy had been waiting for 9 months and we fell in love with each other in a matter of minutes. \r\n\r\nI love PAWS Atlanta - they are wonderful!

    Pros

    a preium no-kill shelter

    Cons

  • 14. Great Organization

    by: akumar73

I have been volunteering with PAWS Atlanta since 2005 and it is an amazing organization. All of the animals there are truly loved and receive excellent care. I adopted my little Millie from PAWS and I can't imagine life before her. Their primary concern at PAWS is the animals and providing a better life for them. I highly recommend them as a place to adopt a new friend, get discounted vaccinations and spaying/neutering for your pet, and volunteer!

    Pros

No kill shelter, discounted vaccinations and spaying and neutering, staff that truly loves animals!

    Cons

  • 15. My best friend used to live at PAWS

    by: PuppyDoo

In August of 2004 I decided it was time to find a four legged friend. I had the good fortune of meeting Bridgette. She was five years old and had lived at the shelter for almost two years. She has changed my life in more ways than I could have ever imagined and she brings me joy everyday. I am so grateful to PAWS for taking such great care of her until I found her. I received supportive phone calls and emails from staff and volunteers after I adopted her. They genuinely care about animals and the human/animal bond. These are great people doing commendable work and I am forever thankful. One more tip from me, don't overlook an animal just because they are older. My girl is 9 and she still has loads of energy. Hence, one of her many nicknames is Puppy Doo.

    Pros

friendly and knowledgable staff and volunteers, genuine concern for the wellbeing of animals

    Cons

    None

    by: tallen13

  • 19. GREAT place!

    by: flashallen13

I started volunteering at this rescue organization 3 weeks ago and I LOVE it! I work with the dogs and they are obviously a TON happier than some shelters I've been in. ALL dogs have both indoor and outdoor kennels/runs. The staff is great and work as hard as they can with EVERY dog to get it adopted. They don't just discard a dog who is sick or has behavior problems-their goal is to make the dog better.

    Pros

great staff, clean place, happy dogs, fun environment for cats

    Cons

wish it could house more animals!

  • 20. Paws is top of the pile

  • 21. I love PAWS!

    by: AmySchneider

I've been volunteering at PAWS since its days as the "DeKalb Humane Society," about six years ago. I walk the big dogs -- the ones who don't get much attention from the public but who are clearly loved by the staff and many volunteers like me!\n\nI never would have considered volunteering at a shelter unless it had a no-kill policy, and I've seen that policy at work at PAWS. Some of the harder-to-adopt dogs who have been there a long time are some of my favorites! PAWS knows that, like people, no animal is perfect. We all have our idiosyncracies, and PAWS doesn't hold those against these animals.\n\nPAWS does so much -- and continues to do more. For example, they get professional trainers to volunteer time to work with some of the aforementioned less-adoptable dogs. I would love to see what would happen if PAWS were given the opportunity to put this $1 million grant to use. I don't know every shelter in America, and I'm sure most of them are *plenty* deserving -- but I know for a fact that none of them is *MORE* deserving than PAWS and the beautiful animals it protects, serves and loves!

    Pros

fantastic animals, no-kill policy, great walking trail, excellent cat environment without cages, does microchips, offers reduced-cost services and immunizations, stands by its pets and takes them back in when owners flake out

    Cons

hard to get out of parking lot onto busy Covington Highway!

  • 22. I love this shelter!!!

    by: lharris85

Ive been to PAWS before and i simply adore the animals there. I am no longer a pet owner because of circumstances, but I knew that my dog would be in good hands when i had to let her go. I will always go for PAWS.

    Pros

the staff and knowledge they have if the animals are very impressive

    Cons

with the only things that need manual repairin, this place is a great place to adopt and take care of ur animals

  • 23. PAWS Atlanta is the Best!

    by: grayfost

They take great care of homeless dogs and cats, and could take in so many more with better funding. Send them a donation today! Or at least volunteer there - the most fun volunteer work anyone could do! Also, if you're thinking of getting a pet dog or cat, this is the place to find one -- adoption fee is a bargain for a pet that's already been spayed/neutered, microchipped, dewormed, vaccinated, etc.

    Pros

    Everything!

    Cons

    None.

  • 24. No Kill

    Pros

    great place to volunteer

    Cons

dogs and cats are too cute!

  • 32. They gave me my best buddy!

    by: eamccoll

PAWS is where I got my dog Oreo when he was just an 8 pound ball of fluff. Now he's 100+ pounds, and I don't know what my family would do without him. He had been abandoned, and I hate to think what could have happened to him if PAWS were not around. \n\nThe people at PAWS genuinely care about helping animals in Atlanta. When I attended a volunteer training, when I helped out at an off-site adoption day, when I've gone just to look at dogs and walk a few, I have always been impressed by the courtesy and passion of the staff and volunteers. \n\nPAWS is an awesome organization, and very deserving of people's time and support!

    Pros

Great staff, clean facilities, all-around great shelter for animals waiting for forever homes.

    Cons

Size. I wish they were larger so they could help more animals!

  • 33. Excellent service.... very caring

    by: ztT4MP89070170

Excellent service. You can tell that the people really care about the animals. I was looking for a dog for my son. The woman brought up a few points that I had not thought of. We ended up bring home a wonderful dog that has become my best running partner. Unlike some of my "people partners", she is always ready to run, and I feel like she would protect me if needed. We are very happy with our dog and will definitely return for another pet.

    Pros

    very caring people

    Cons

a bit of a drive for me

Also, PAWS is not only an adoption center, but is committed to helping the pet overpopulation problem by spaying and neutering all of the animals up for adoption and offering spay/neuter services at low costs to the public. The staff is friendly and the environment is welcoming. The first goal of PAWS is to find their animals safe, loving, and Permanant homes.
