The SPCA of Central Florida has been serving the community since 1937. In that time, the agency has received more than 1,300,000 companion animals from people who are unable or unwilling to continue to care for them....a difficult job perhaps made more difficult by the burdens that must be handled by a small and dedicated group of staff members. Central Florida can be proud of the work done everyday by the agency's staff and volunteers. I know I am.
a worthy mission, handled by caring people
too often, too much is often expected by the community
I'm a longtime supporter of the SPCA of Central FL and I appreciate their hard work so much. Just looking now at my sweet, snoozing cat who I adopted from there last year. They take such great care of the cats and dogs who are placed in their care. No, a shelter is never as good as a home, but this place, and the Sanford branch too, are bright and cheerful, clean and loving places. The cats and dogs have well kept cages and kennels, and large play areas. There are even these cool climbing trees and big play tubes for the cats, and the dogs have really nice exercise areas. The staff and volunteers work so hard and with such commitment to the animals. It's not an easy job but you know they do it because they love it and wouldn't do anything else. They really make a difference. I love the SPCA vets and techs, too, and trust them very much. They've been there for me and my animals many times over the years. Can't say enough great things about the SPCA except to tell them - Thank you!
Animal care, customer service, cleanliness
I have recently quit my job from the SPCA after trying my heart out for a year to get hired. It is a nightmare and i dont think that the public should be lied to. THEY ARE A KILL SHELTER AND EUTHANIZE MORE THAN HALF OF ANIMALS. i would know .. i euthanized hundreds of dogs before i could not stand it anymore. One day they actually euthanized the wrong dog on accident and the deceased dog was ADOPTED!! The new family came to pick the dog up and was told the dog was sick and not allowed to be adopted.WRONG.LIES. It was euthanized by a staff member and as soon as the new family left property.... The staff all had a good laugh about it. YES a laugh! I will not stop until David is replaced. He is the kennel manager and he is verbally abusive and is inhumane. They will find any excuse to kill animals. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE ANIMALS TO SPCA unless you want them put to sleep. TAKE ANIMALS TO RESCUE OR POSSIBLY ORANGE COUNTY across the parking lot. Atleast they are honest.
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING UNLESS YOU WANT TO PUT DOWN YOUR DOG OR CAT
THEY ARE A KILL SHELTER
I took my dog here to be spayed, she was only a year old. When I picked her up I was told the surgery went well. I took her home and she was very drowsy and lethargic. I called the emergency line and they told me that was normal and not to worry. I kept her by my side all night and was up to check on her every hour. At 5 am she was nearly unresponsive. She was wetting herself, deficating uncontrollabley and cold. Her gums were snow white and dry as paper. I rushed her to the local emergency clinic where she went into cardiac arrest. They performed CPR and gave her meds to restart her heart. She unfortuneatly didnt make it. I opted to have a necropsy done on her to see what the cause of death was. It turned out that the vet who did the surgery didnt properly suture my poor little baby and she bled internally to death. When I called the SPCA to see what they had to say about this. They said it couldnt have possibly been anything they had done. I took the report to them from the emergency clinic which they said I forged. I didn't want any money from them. All i wanted was for them to admit they had made a mistake and say they were sorry. Instead the called me a liar and accused me of killing my own dog. I would NEVER recommend anyone to take their pet here to be spayed or neutered. They have multiple pets under anesthesia at one time, with only 1 doctor and 1 or 2 nurses monitoring the pets. The vet goes from one pet to the other like an assembly line. I understand they do a lot of good for the community. But this was just rediculous.
my pet died
I adopted my saint bernard about 4 years ago from this location. They have a large variety of animals to chose from, but could use more inside cages-especially for the BIG DOGS. I think they have a nice center and were very helpful! Thanks again!
lots of outside cages
I had to have my puppy neutered. The clinic near my home is not open on weekends and I cannot go during the week so I had a problem. I went on the internet and found out that the SPCA in Orlando had weekend hours and amazing prices. They set me up with an appointment that very next weekend on a Sunday morning. They were very kind and courteous to both me and my puppy. They were also able to pull 4 of his baby teeth that hadn't come out on their own for a very reasonable price. I am greatful for their wonderful service. He healed up without any problems and he is doing great.
Exceptional prices and availability
nothing I can think of
My rescue group was contacted by this shelter about a schnauzer that needed a home. They were caring and very happy to have found a placement for this beautiful dog. They were determined to give this guy a chance even though he was matted and stinky, they knew what a sweet guy he was and through their efforts, we fostered him, now he is with his forever family and enjoing life. Thanks to them for letting us know he was there.
calls rescue groups
I volunteer here and love every minute I am there. The staff and volunteers are all knowledge and friendly and truly have a passion for animals. Every person should consider adopting from this facility!
Staff, volunteers, cleanliness, location
My wife and I are moving to the Orlando area next week. We cant wait to be involved with a local shelter in FL.... We have been involved with a local shelter in NC for the past few years while we lived here and we cant wait to keep helping when we move to FL.
My daughters volunteer at this shelter and love it. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful, and will work with you to find your perfect cat or dog.
Very helpful staff
Only homes cats and dogs
I recommend utilizing the SPCA clinic for at least your vaccinations and Heartguard, etc. The also do inexpensive spay/neuters. And the shelter itself is great - I got 2 of my dogs there.
hard to get an appointment
We have friends and they say that this is a really great shelter hard working staff real friendly.Good luck guys!
what a great service this agency provides the community!
My friend Carol volunteers at this shelter every other weekend and she has a heart of gold. She loves her time there and prides herself on trying to get animals placed. She brushes and grooms them when she's asked to and she has a love for all the animals there.\r\n\r\nShe is a wonderfull asset to the shelter and to the animals.\r\n\r\n
Could use more volunteers!
Thank you for taking such great care of the animals at your shelter. You are doing an awesome job! Good luck with the makeover!!!
great care for the animals
needs a good makeover
This is a wonderful place. Never had a problem. The workers are very honest and are eager to make the animals and customers happy. I like how they have follow-ups right after the adoption. The Volunteers are awesome! Keep up the GREAT work!
Lot of animals adopted out.
needs a little structure clean up
AWESOME PLACE! This is by-far the best establishment. I have been to many different shelters and I am amazed with the Orlando SPCA.
Needs an update
I visited the Seminole County facility recently and I was very impressed. First of all, the staff members were extremely helpful and kind, the kennels and cat rooms were so clean and even smelled nice and everyone just showed that they really loved working there and they truly cared for the animals.\r\n\r\nI did end up adopting the newest member of my family from the Seminole facility, who I renamed "Belle". She is such a wonderful cat and has the best personality! I want to thank all of the staff there for helping me to select the purrfect cat! Thank you so much and God bless you all!
Helping surrendered pets, nice staff members and VERY clean
Too many unwanted pets.
This clinic is one that anyone in central Florida should take there animal for any of there care needs. Great place with great workers.
Staff really cares about all animals
None that I saw
what a great service this shelter is providing to the community!
I have been with the SPCA of Central Florida for nearly 6 months, and it has been a great experience. To begin, the SPCA of Central Florida does not euthanize for time or space, and is affordable, offers sweet pets, and has a wonderful and knowledgeable group of staff and volunteers. The SPCA also offers wonderful veterinary services at affordable rates and has a very compassionate, competent medical staff. The adoptions at the SPCA are not only low cost, but also include shots, a microchip, and spaying and neutering in the adoption fee. Finally, the grounds are cleaned extensively often to provide optimum cleanliness. All in all, the SPCA of Central Florida is a great place to go if you are looking for a great pet at an affordable price.
Knowledgeable staff, friendly staff, friendly volunteers, clean facility, sweet animals, do not euthanize for time or space, excellent vet services, great spay/neuter program
The charge more for adoptions than their neighbor: Orange County Animal Services. It feels nice and cool inside though.
Select staff are very kind
Some staff get angry when you take the animals out too much
It's great to have a nice shelter for animals who need a safe place to stay where they will be properly cared for untill they can find a permanent home. We need such a place where I live, the animals in my community do not get a fair chance. I feel so bad for them and wish I could do more.
Seems like a nice place
These vets do thousands of low cost spay-neuter surgeries each year in the morning hours, plus many more complicated & life-saving ones, too. Then they put on a smile for low-cost preventive care & more routine care during the afternoon of the same day. I'm grateful not just for the care they give my pets, but that they forego the whopping income some private vets get.
Vets work 12 hours daily & much surgery
Not enough space to grow, more demand than can fill
I've been working at the Seminole county branch now for 8 months and absolutley love it! The staff is friendly and deeply care for all the animals that come through our doors! 1 thing that makes it all worth while, coming to work is the animals! After all, they are the reason we are here everyday. To me, it really isn't a job, I feel I'm here making a difference! And that is what really counts!!!
Friendly staff and faces
I am so proud to say I work for an agency that cares so much about helping the people and animals in our community. I have work for the SPCA oc Central Florida for 5 years and look forward to many more years. As a employee you are not just someone that works here you are a part of the family. Our agency has helped millions of animals since it's institution in 1937. We are celibrating 70 years of serving central Florida.
This has been the best place i have ever worked.
This Shleter is the cleanest I have ever been too! My best friend has worked there for 7 years now and she loves it. I have been there several times with her and it never stinks, it is always clean and the staff is always friendly. When I plan on adopting animals in the future you can guess where I will be!
affordable, close to everything, staff is great, clinic is cheap
I had to take my cat in for a check up and the staff was very friendly and knowlegeable. They were very busy but everything went smoothly, and it didn't cost very much unlike some other place I had been too.
Convient location, low cost
hard to get a hold of on the phone
I have worked for The SPCA of Central Florida ( Seminole County location) for about 1 1/2 years, and I love what I do. It's a very rewarding job, at times it can be stressful, but at the end of the day.....I know we all did a good deed. With every passing working day we serve the community, and help educate them on how to care for there loved companions better, how to protect them, and most importantly why they need to have their animal spayed/neutered. It's okay that people don't know, thats why it's our job the show them the way, and to help educate. I have to admit before I started working here, I wasn't very educated when it comes to animals, and how important it is to get your animal spayed, all I knew is that I loved animals, and I wanted to work with these helpless creations, so I saw an add in the Sentinel, and applied.....and here I am today. A make over to our shelter would not only allow us to treat more animals on the clinic aspect, it would also allow us to house more homless pets, while they wait for a good home to go to!!..... Remember the animal population is outta control due to lack of education, and irresponsible behavior. So remember Spay/Neuter your pets!!! :-)
A rewarding job, successfully treating animals!
Financial Limitations, which can restrict our patient care.
I can't say enough about the Orlando Humane Society/SPCA of Central Florida. I have been going there since the first of my many homeless/abandoned cats adopted me. The SPCA has made caring for my "children" affordable. The vets are the best I have found in Central Florida. They are vets who truly care about the animals; they are always compassionate and never suggest unnecessary tests.\r\n\r\nThe shelter staff is wonderful. I was at the clinic one day when a woman brought her adopted dog for a check-up. She ensured the dog had an opportunity to say hello to his former caretakers. The dog was a spokesanimal for the shelter as he wagged his tail vigorously and gave his old friends many kisses. It brought tears to my eyes.\r\n\r\nThanks for being such a compassionate, caring shelter.
Best vets and best prices
Too far from East Orlando
I love my job, we work hard to keep the shelters clean and do our best in helping the animals.
We have a outstanding team of workers, the best staff i haave ever worked with.

looking for a pet? look no further. the SPCA is here. there are so many loving animals who desperatly need homes. the staff is great and you cant beat the service. They love animals as much as we do.
friendly staff here to help
too many cute animals to choose from
The facility is always clean and full of happy, caring and knowledgeable staff and volunteers. Training for volunteers is fun and often. The latest fundraiser, the Wiggle Waggle Walk was great fun for pets and owners alike. Deb, the volunteer coordinator, is great! They have a wonderful pet visitation program, too!
Very active in community - extremely caring to all the animals
Facility needs work!!! We need Zootoo!
I love this place. I am so addicted to volunteering with these dogs at the SPCA of Central FL. Nothing is more fulfilling and heartwarming then volunteering at this shelter. I greatly apperciate all of the wonderful things that I have learned over the course of my time there. When my parents come in from out of town, the first thing we do is visit all of my furry friends at the SPCA. This has been a life-changing experience, which I'll never stop doing. Please come check out our shelter and adopt one of our wonderful and beautiful creatures.
Still needing to adopt so many dogs
Alot of people get sad when they go into animal shelters and see so many animals waiting there for homes, but no one can be sad when they go to the SPCA of Central Florida! It is really clean and nice, and there is alot of sunlight, and there are spacious "cat rooms" and doggie kennels. The veterinarians and techs are so knowledgeable, and you can tell the staff all love the animals and think alot about their comfort and good health and overall well-being. This shelter is the greatest!!!!!
Clean and safe and full of love
I just started working at the SPCA's Orlando shelter at the beginning of August and I love my new job. It feels great to be able to care for the animals while they await their forever families. The staff and the volunteers are all great. In the little bit of time that I've been here I've learned so much and continue to learn more and more every day from both the staff and volunteers. Who knows... maybe some day I'll get into med school and be a Vet like I've dreamt of since I was a little kid. =)
friendly, helpful, knowledgeable staff
too many great potential pets, not enough good homes to go around
The SPCA of Central Florida has been serving Central Florida since 1937. They are strictly a non-profit organization. It is amazing how they are able to take care of there animals. With what they have to work with the are paramount on providing top notch care for all shelter animals as well as there public animals. \r\nThe SPCA of Central Florida also assisted in rescure missions during Hurricane Katrina. They bought hundereds of cats and dog back from Louisiana and Mississippi. Without there services to Central Florida and elsewhere the communities they have help would not be the same.
Serving all of Central Florida. Your Local Humane Society since 1937
Seminole shelter is small and outdated.
This organization has been helping animals in Orange County for seventy years! That is amazing. So much progress has been made through education and spay/neuter programs. Also, my favorite program which helps senior citizens keep their pets by delivering pet food food to them. The SPCA also offers wonderful clinic services at affordable prices to everyone in the community, so animals can get the care they need. This is a wonderful organization to become involved with by volunteering, donating and participating in events and programs.
The multitude services the organization provides
The growing community requires fast growth of the organization
From being with SPCA for a year, I come to realize it is a wonderful clinic. The staff is awsome and cares so much about all animals in every way. It is a very clean clinic and works very hard with upkeeping and more. Every animal is well cared for and is given a lot of love and has true compassion showing towards all animals.
Committed and loving towards all animals. Best Clinic!
Can use an facial upgrade
I have been a member of the SPCA of Central FL/Orlando Humane Society for 11 years now, and I have the deepest respect for this excellent shelter and for all of the people who work and volunteer there! The veterinary staff are second to none, the place is immaculate, with a bright and welcoming decor,a nd all of the staff, business office and shelter workers alike, and the terrific volunteers, are kind and caring and absolutely devoted to the animals in their care. Other shelters could learn a great deal from this very special, very professional organization!
A shelter to trust and be proud of!
No cons at all.
This shelter is a wondeful, clean, safe place for animals, and I only wish more shelters were like it. The cleanliness is exceptional, and the environment is very pleasant. The staff and vounteers are without equal! You will not find a more compassionate, professional, dedicated group of people anywhere!
The best shelter anywhere!
I have been a volunteer here for over 7 months, and I continue to be amazed at the dedication of the staff to take care of the animals and get them adopted into "forever homes" as soon as possible. I adopted a dog here myself. They take animals in from other shelters, too, when they can, and my dog got a home here when she was not adopted at another shelter. There are too many dogs and not enough space to get them out of their kennels every day, and that is very hard on the large and the very active dogs. We need (desperately) a grassy play area for the dogs, where they will not slip on wet concrete after the all-too-frequent summer rains and where we can set up a water feature to cool them off. And thinking of our HOT Florida summers, the kennels need to be airconditioned! This is a wonderful place with a dedicated staff, but love is not enough.
The love and caring for the animals is amazingly special.
The facility/physical condition needs improvement.
I adopted all three fo my dogs from the SPCA of Central FLorida and now am an avid fundraiser for them. They take fantastic care of the dogs and cats and truly put the animals first. But their shelter could definitely do with a makeover! I hope they win!
Take great care of the animals
Seminole Shelter could use a makeover
