  • 1. From happy humane society to happy home!

    by: DivaOC

When my husband and I first moved in to our own place, we knew we wanted a cat. We started looking at the Oconto Area Humane Society and Animal Shelter and didn't have to look any further. The staff at the shelter was knowledgable and thorough during the adoption process and we ended up with a wonderful pet. They will do everything in their power to make sure that your pet will be the perfect fit for your home. I plan to adopt all of my future pets from this location!

    Pros

Great selection of well cared for animals. Rigorous adoption process.

    Cons

Too small a shelter for this area!

I have been with this shelter practically since day one. The staff is exceptional. I thought I knew about animals until I met Jason, the shelter director. He really has a way with animals. Judy, who handles reception, is always friendly and ready to help. Jess has been a great help to Jason. She not only gives 100% but has involved everyone in her family. Matt seems to enjoy every minute at the shelter and knows the dogs really well. The volunteers are the best. They keep the shelter clean and the animals happy. They leave notes such as the cats need to be played with every day and the kittens need to be held and petted every chance you get. Many people in the community pop in with gifts of food, cleaning supplies, toys, blankets and towels on a regular basis. Some even donate cash! When at the shelter I have overheard people saying how clean it is and how healthy the animals are. Many of the animals that come through the doors are hurt or frightened. After a day or so many of them are like different animals. The staff really makes them feel loved and it shows. I have respect for everyone who works and/or helps the shelter and am proud to be a part of it. When an animal is adopted everyone is happy and says they, the animal, is going home today.

  • 3. Great Place!

    by: ECHess

Although i have not adopted a pet from them, (i live in AZ and have three, well, they're my girlfriends. Me? I'd have one and it would be a terrier type dog.), if i was going to this would be the place i would do it from. They know what they are talking about, are friendly and happy to be there, and really care about the service they are preforming

    Pros

    Friendly People, very knowlegeable

    Cons

    none

  • 5. A Long Overdue Answer to a Urgent Need!

    by: KCBerg

This is an excellent shelter . . . one that the Oconto area has needed for many years! The people who work here (both the hourly employees and the volunteers) are caring, compassionate, knowledgeable people who love animals and go 'above and beyond' to treat all of their 'temporary borders' with respect, care, and compassion. Kudos to them . . . we are blessed to have them!

    Pros

    New and Growing

    Cons

In Need of More Community Involvement
