I adopted a dog from the Mower Co. Humane Society. The building is not a real cheerful place, but it is clean and the dogs have a decent amount of kennel space and an outside play area. The cost to adopt was very reasonable, considering the dogs are up to date on shots and MCHS took care of spaying. They also let me take my girl home for a week as a trial period and gave me first choice of the two I was considering, without any pressure. They seem to sincerely want their animals to find forever homes. They have been helpful in follow up questions after adoption. If I ever decide to adopt again, MCHS will be my first choice.

    Pros

Give you time to get to know potential fur kid.

    Cons

Smaller capacity, but they do occassionally foster.

My friend and i went here this week to adopt a cat for her, yes she found one. We were only able to see the cats because the dog people had already left. There is just not enough room in this poor shelter. The cats were well cared for, and there were lots of people there to help find them their new homes. The volunteers were great! Very knowledgeable, helpful and caring. The unfortunate thing was that they are full with cats and have more waiting at the vet to come in and get adopted out. I wish they had more room to help with the babies that need new homes.

    Pros

    Very Clean

    Cons

    Not enough room or help

I absolutely love the Mower County Humane Society! They have a great bunch of volunteers and they all love the animals there. We adopted one of our cats from there and she had been there for about 1-1/2 years. They share in the joy when animals finally find homes. They treat all their animals with great care. They make sure every animal gets out and exercises too and give them all treats. I will definitely plan to adopt another animal there someday!
