We found a stray by our work "Sunshine" . None of us could take him home. It was during that horrible cold snap and we did not know what to do. \nMEHS was kind enough to make room for him. He is the sweetest little kitty and is still looking for a good home. He is a BIG snuggler. I just want to say thanks to everyone at the facility for there caring contribution to all animals!

    Pros

    Caring loving staff

    Cons

    none

    by: cjlynch

MEHS is definitely fighting an uphill battle. I admire their efforts, especially in this area where animals are spoken of as "just animals" and are so often seemingly disposable as a matter of convenience. Hopefully our community can step up and show more support.

    Pros

    Humane investigations

    Cons

Limited space and outdoor activity area

    by: opd112

My husband and I adopted our cat about 7 years ago and loved the Metro East Humane Society. We took him to get declawed and found out he had an upper respiratory infection and the vet told us to let the Humane Society know because he was in a kennel with a bunch of other kitties that may have been sick too. It cost us quite a bit of money to get him well and when I called to let them know, they didn't even sound like they cared. I was disappointed and worried someone else would adopt a sick kitten too. After everything was said and done, I ended up with the best cat I could have ever asked for and wouldn't trade him for the world. Very clean place and they had a ton of animals when we were there.

    Pros

    Great selection of animals

    Cons

    Sick Kitty

  • 5. Helping find homes for animals for more than 21 years

    by: claleman

MEHS offers adoption services, provides humane educaiton presentations throughout the metro-east, has the only full-time humane investigator in the area on staff, and provides spay/neuter services to help curb the overpopulation problem among farm and ferral cats.

    Pros

They find homes for more than 1,000 animals each year

    Cons

The shelter is off the beaten path
