    by: lbloyal

I was at the Meriden Humane Society to drop off. When a woman finally came to talk to me, I explained I was dropping off and why. She asked where I was from and she replies "Ugh I have 200+ cats. Why does everyone bring their cats here?" She walked away before I could reply. He was not my cat. I would have loved to have kept him, but I already have 3 rescues. Besides, he's between 2-3 months and cute as can be. He'll go fast. Then I overhear an employee say "I want to take a knife and cut my head off cuz sometimes this is not worth it" Awkward! I get that we all have bad days, but she knew I heard her. Just unprofessional.. FINALLY after the 3rd person to talk to me, they took the little kitten. I hope he's in good hands!

    Pros

busy, takes in animals, hard workers

    Cons

    rude tendancies, unprofessional towards customers

  • 2. Dedicated, Hardworking Staff & Happy Critters

    by: ItpoopsIscoop

My first visit to MHS I was amazed at how hard staff worked to keep such a large shelter running. Laundry is done basically non stop while they're open, items must be disenfecited and they blow through bleach, laundry detergent, washer and dryers quickly. Volunteers had multiple jobs including taking time out to give some extra love to a newcomer, lonely, or timid kitty. People in the office doing paperwork and phones. ICU/Quarentine Unit is carefully monitored, only specific persons allowed to enter the room. Careful precautions are taken, I watched as hand washing before and after the room. Care taken not to spread germs. A cat room that's huge and all kinds of comfy things for kitties to relax or climb on. A fenced in outdoor area for cats to get fresh air. I Say 5 **** For MHS

    Pros

Dedicated Staff, Quarentine Unit, Happy "Residents"

    Cons

What REAL Shelters/Rescues Suffer From: $$

  • 4. Love this place

    by: jduchette

I have been here and its a great place!\n\nThere is so much devotion at places like this. They all need help to expand their services.\n\nI wish that all animals could be so lucky to have help like this. We have so much power to help. I am so happy that no kill shelters are out there.\n\nI wish more people would look into a no kill shelter for a pet or any shelter for a pet before going to a pet store!

    Pros

    No kill great staff

    Cons

    none

  • 5. AWESOME NO-KILL SHELTER!

    by: DeadStar

I love this shelter! It is by far the BEST shelter in the state of Connecticut! Not only do they not kill their animals, like other places I know of, all of their money goes TO THE ANIMALS...They need the make-over more than ANY of these other shelters, so please, VOTE FOR THEM!

    Pros

Always work hard, are a no-kill non-profit organization, kind, caring

    Cons

    Nothing negative about them!
