    by: sgoldham

Pets Without Parents manages Mason County Animal Shelter. They are paid $17,500 per year by the county to operate it. The actual cost is $50,000 per year, so the difference has to be made up by fundraising.\r\n\r\nThey handle over 1,000 animals per year, and their euthanasia rate is approx 12%. Euthanasia was approx 92% when the county operated the shelter.\r\n\r\n

  • 3. Something we needed

    by: ztT4MP18367946

Pets without parents is something that has truly been needed in this county for a very long time. I applaud the people who took the time and energy to make this become a reality. I wish it was closer to my home so that it would allow me to volunteer.

    Someting animals without families needed

too small for these rural counties

This shelter is run by the group I work with, Pets Without PArents of Mason and Logan Counties and we have worked very hard to turn a rundown dilapidated pound into a habitable caring animal shelter. The shelter is now clean and the animals have fresh water, food and clean cages everyday. They have attention every day and the dogs get let out or walked everyday. We badly need the money we are trying to win through the zootoo contest to build a bigger cageless shelter.

    Caring Staff and Volunteers

Still have cages but working towards cageless for cats

    by: SandyReedy

since pwp took over, the shelter has been run very efficiently, but the physical plant is terrible. there is not enough room and the cat cages are terrible. we need a separate room for cats, we need more room inside for dogs, though their cages are large enough. pwp added exercise areas outside for the dogs, and this is a big plus. also, pwp started a foster care program, which has saved many animals from euthanasia, as they have a place to stay while waiting for adoption. many improvements have been made, such as beds for the animals, exercise areas, cleanlilness, etc., but there is only so much that can be done in a cramped area

    euthanasia rate reduced

too small, cramped and poor location

I am a volunteer at the shelter and can say in all honesty that the animals there get the best care possible. Cheryl and Sam are to be commended for all their efforts to make it the best shelter it can be. Its a privledge to work with such good people.

    Doing a great job...

PWP needs this makeover so we can make a bigger facility so we can do more with the animals this facility is just way way too small. But Pets without Parents does thier best with what they have.Cheryl & Sue are the best I love them

This Animal Shelter is doing an awesome job now that Pets without Parents is running it . The staff there is awesome and do all they can for the animals that come in. This facility needs to be alot bigger though. We don't have alot of room and only 9 kennels for the dogs and 9+ kennels for the cats. Pets without Parents really needs this makeover so we can make things better at this facility.

    not big enough
