  • 2. Abandoned animal's friend

    by: GI

They are always willing to help in any way possible. When it comes to animal rescue, they are available 24 hrs. A short story. We were looking at a house to buy. The previous owners had abandoned their dog, a large mutt, at this house. I have a small dog, so could not take him. I went out to MCAP. Lorraine went out to make sure he was ok, brought food and water for him. We looked and asked around for his owners, with no luck. Lorraine took him in. I have a stray that I have adopted now. When I look for another dog, I will adopt from MCAP. They are a small facility, ran by volunteers and could use all the help they can get.

    Pros

    Very Caring Staff

    Cons

    At or near capacity

    by: nann1211

This is the undertaking of a wonderful woman who has nothing but the best interest of animals and her community in mind. This is a no kill shelter and they make every effort to get good homes for all their animals. Congratulations to orraiine and her staff, who no doubt, seem overwhelmed at times. My hat goes off to you.

  • 6. In Loving Memory of Annie

    by: tcbcmb

I have adopted from them a wonderful little cockapoo named Annie. She was a part of our lives for 11 years and very much loved and still missed 5 years after her passing. The staff is very caring and knowledgeable. Our family often donates money, food and toys to them, in which they greatly appreciate receiving these gifts. They are a great service to our community by helping so many deserted pets find loving families and homes. It is also because of a news article in our local paper about them, that I discovered zootoo.

    Pros

It is a no kill shelter

    Cons

    They are overcrowded

    Cons

They're running out of room for all their animals.

  • 8. High Quality

    by: atgt1

I met some volunteers from this shelter by chance. I first looked at the website which is clearly laid out and easy to manuever around. Good suggestions for pet owners and possible owners. A variety of ways to help the shelter are given, even if you are not close by. I especially like the idea of supporting an animal who will never be able to leave the shelter but who still needs plenty of love and care. I then went to visit in person and was even more impressed with the staff and the shelter itself. I wish I lived closer and could be a regular volunteer.

    Pros

    dedicated staff and volunteers

    Cons

more room is always good for animals

  • 9. Who Helped Who?

    by: ztT4MP19089937

I'd called Adopt A Pet when I 'needed' a companion for another dog we'd gotten from a relative and his wife-to-be. Lorraine and friends helped me find a great dog-friend for our first dog. Then our child came along and grew up with the two, now older, dogs. After they crossed rainbow bridge we waited until our girl wanted a dog of her "own", and found help with the specific breed (Pug) from another shelter close by, but she and I came back to Adopt A Pet to help as volunteers on the weekend and during school holidays, walking, brushing, playing/socializing with whatever animal needed some. We did this throughout the summer and into fall when school started up again. No, we didn't really 'need' another companion for the new one, but Jed the coonhound latched onto my eyes and didn't let my heart rest until I had him at our place. I was counting on the old adage: "opposites attract." After initial wonderment, and a little discipline, I'm happy to say they both enjoy each others' company, and are getting along with their adopted cats, also.

    Pros

    close to home

    Cons

    n/a

  • 12. One of the most caring shelters in the world!

    by: jwalker2008

I had searched my area for a shelter that needed my expertise with web and general graphic design. They welcomed me with open arms, just like they do any distressed animal. This shelter goes the extra mile....they even put little stuffed animals in the babies kennels!

    Pros

Go the extra mile to make the pets feel wonderful.

    Cons

Wish they had a shelter makeover!
