  • 1. Animal Lovers!

    by: khowison

The staff at the shelter are great! They love the animals and you can tell from the moment you walk in. With everything this town has going on, the fact that so many people want to volunteer their time to help make the shelter a better place goes to show how much animals mean to our town. Thanks to the Liberty Humane Shelter, animals who have been left behind for one reason or another are given a chance at a happy life in a new forever home. Great job and keep up the good work! You are most deserving of this makeover, not only for all you do for the furry residents but for all you do for our military families (especially those who are having a hard time losing their furry family members due to unforseen circumstances.) We appreciate you!!

    Pros

The staff are so involved and helpful!

    Cons

    Needs a facelift for sure!!

    by: BuckandBubba

My daughter and I visited LHS in July 2008. We were assisted by a very friendly and helpful staff who were indeed knowledgeable of every dog at the shelter. My daughter will be entering high school next year and wants to help the shelter as part of her community service requirement for high school. We look forward to being around people who are making a difference in our community. Thanks for all you do.

  • 5. Liberty Saves Lives!

    by: jdollarp

If you can look past the small size of the shelter and the poor conditions within the shelter, you will see that Liberty Humane Shelter is doing a lot with very little. All workers and volunteers at the shelter are committed to the animals - training, loving, and finding great homes. These people are angels for their dedication to the animals. The Liberty Humane Shelter has the staff to make a great establishment, but their facilities are falling apart. Please vote for the Liberty Humane Shelter to receive the wonderful gift of a makeover.

    Pros

The people at the shelter truely love what they do!

    Cons

The shelter horribly needs to be replaced.

    by: cyrusw

My wife and I have adopted-out four animals from this shelter, (two dogs, and two cats!) and the folks there have been helpful, loving and careful. We have lived in this area for over 25 years, and know how hard they work to keep the shelter going for the people AND the pets. Please help whenever and wherever you can- they do it for the LOVE!

    Pros

These People Love Pets of All types

    Cons

Too crowded to really be fair to the animals

  • 10. Diamond in the ruff

    by: JodieLeigh

The first time I ever saw this shelter eight years ago, I thought I had stumbled across the old run down one no longer in use. I mean surely a new facility had been built years ago and I just had the old directions. I was shocked to learn that this old beat up building with only a few outside kennels was the Humane Shelter for the whole county. A County that the proud 3rd ID Division calls home. Over the years I have had the pleasure of dealing with the staff and volunteers here. I can honestly say that they have always been very helpful, understanding and have put the welfare of the animals first. I know many people who have adopted thier four-legged family memebers from the shelter and I have never heard any complaints or concerns about the operation there. I know that if the unthinkable happens and my babies wonder from the yad and are taken to the shelter ,they will be cared for, loved and kept safe until I can pick them up.

    Pros

Staff that really cares, no kills and many volunteers

    Cons

    Limited space, funds and resources

  • 11. Sweet Deal

  • 15. Liberty Humane!

    by: GabrielDeafBlindPupF

They are working with 1960 facilities and abilities. While the nation has continued to explode with abanding their family members, Liberty County contiues to try to save what they finally can. They can't save them all, but they DO TRY! We don't support them as they need with our tax dollars. Let's see if we can with this highly emotional WINDFALL! I saw ZooToo on television visiting the shelter and I was in tears at the opportunity they face to save lives in a huge way. Please everyone HELP Liberty County. The percapita income vs. the big cities is so far out of range, that please give them your vote. We have so many animals dumped. Savannah, GA, has 3 military installations. These are a great number of the animals relinquished, when the military is redeployed, fighting for our country and having NO ONE who will take their family members. We now have rescues who forbid military adoptions, because of this very reason. It is epidemic to Libery County and the humane is working hard to educate on spay / neuter.

    Pros

They have a FLOOD of dumped family members

    Cons

They don't have the resources to deal with the epidemic influx.

  • 16. Liberty humane in need of help

    by: Bonnie1023

This shelter has great expectations and makes a good effort but to come right down to it, it needs a lot of help. The walls are cracked and chipping, the dogs have almost no room to roam leaving them left in cages, the price to adopt is ridiculous because they are in such need for money to buy supplies, its cold in winter because the brick walls, the animals beds are stained. They try their hardest with their limitations but they need a lot of improvement. I don't like to call animal control because I know that the animal will be put down for the lack of room at the shelter.

    Pros

Group socializing cats, nice and caring staff, no kill shelter,

    Cons

Share a building with animal control, dogs unsocialized, building in need of repair, small space, lack of supplies, price to adopt a dog too high, haveing to pay to drop a stray, dirt road leading to the shelter makeing it inaccesible during rain,

  • 17. Liberty Shelter

Such nice people who really care about the animals.

    Pros

They do their best with limited resources

    Cons

Shelter is old and in need of improvements

  • 18. Good people working hard in such a small space!

    by: angelica31316

I love all the men and women at this facility. I have gotten several animals from them over the years and they couldn't have suited us better. The staff is kind and they truly care for the animals they rescue. The building itself may turn people away. If your not an avid animal lover you may never darken their door steps in search of an animal to take home and love. The first time I came in there I was kind of shocked at the space in which all these animals live. The facility has no room to grow and improve their surrounding due to absolutely no room. They are not high on the counties priority list when it comes to funding. I love the heart these people have and the time and care they dedicate to these animals is wonderful. The staff nor the animals should have to live or work in such a place as this. They truly need and deserve this money. It would provide more benefits for the animals and would reward the staff in the environment they choose to work. Thanks for reading!

    Pros

Wonderful staff and well cared for animals

    Cons

The building they inhabit is too small and they have no room to grow.

  • 19. Great experience

    by: Duxrluvly

We got our kitty cat there a week ago, and we love her! The staff was great, and we had a wonderful experience. THANKS!

    Pros

Friendly and helpful staff, great pets

    Cons

    Desperately needs updating

  • 20. Special needs for this shelter

    by: Juneelaine

Our area has a large military population which gives us a greater need for shelter space than other towns our size. Soldiers being deployed to Iraq and Afganistan often have to relinquish their pets. Other animals are simply abandoned when their owners are transfered to another base. Often these are well trained family pets which are suddenly homeless and frightened. Helping this shelter is another way of supporting your military and thanking them for their service to us.

    Pros

    Dedicated staff

    Cons

Too much demand for limited resources

  • 21. Are Shelter

    by: Merkat88

I live about six to Eight miles away from the Liberty County Humane Shelter and I can't think of any other shelter who could ever deserve this makeover more than the Liberty County Humane Shelter, the staff is very kind and very knowledgeable when taking care of all the animals that are there. The only problems that they have is not having enough space to keep all the animals that are brought to them or that have been abandend by their owners, their the best Humane Shelter that I have ever been in. All of the animals that are there are very well cared for, and all of the staff look like they have alot of fun taking care of them!. I think their the best!

    Pros

    Kind, and Knowledgeable Staff

    Cons

None that I Can Think of

  • 22. hang in there

i hate to say it but the photos of your shelter look EXACTLY like ours...cinder block and all...we were second in last years makeover and i have to tell you the money wasnt the best part....the attention from the community because we were second just kept on coming afterwards...you wouldnt believe the way people reacted and are still reacting a year later...believe me you will be better for this no matter where you place...and so far my vote is for you

    Pros

    trying hard

    Cons

    everything is hard

  • 23. Liberty County Animal Shelter

    by: lisacebolla

Hinesville could do more for the Shelter; folks complain about the homeless animal population but the city officials do nothing to help the shelter. Recently my family moved to North Alabama where a homeless Mother dog and puppy were dropped off at our home in the county - I called the animal shelter and someone came over the same morning to pick them up - I was told the shelter would do their best to find them a home etc., I was shocked that I received the service that I did! My husband thought for sure we would have another dog in the house :) 4 is enough even I know my limits - but my point - the shelter gets support from the city/county - we have a dog park; where animal lovers can gather and visit - Come on' Hinesville --- Its all about Management ! Max our mix came from Liberty County .. he is a great dog and I know there are more babies like him who need loving families.

    Pros

Dedicated Staff (rating high for dedicated staff)

    Cons

    City that does not care

  • 24. This shelter needs makeover

    by: houstonc

I have done construction work at this shelter. They do alot with the animals and try their best to do what they can but they are limited by their financial woes of being non profit and by their facility being so old and run down. They need a makeover.

    Pros

    good folks

    Cons

    poor conditions they work with

  • 25. great animals, terrible conditions

    by: eddiethrower

First let me say the shelter board and staff do all they can for the animals, they are healthy and happy. The facility is terrible. Faulty wiring, poor plumbing, fences falling apart, sheds falling down, tarps to keep in warmth, terrible drainage, poor ventilation, poor air conditioning, and the list goes on. But, even with all the poor conditions the animals come first. That's why this place deserves this makeover, if they can do this much with and for the animals with what they are given imagine what they could do with a million dollar facility.

    Pros

they do the best they can

    Cons

    deplorable facilty

  • 26. Great Shelter saves lives

    by: afrye09

The Liberty Humane Shelter is a great place to volunteer. When I was in High School I had to do community service hours to graduate and my friends and I went to the shelter. The place is an old run down building that needs alot of repair but the animals are healthy, clean, and well fed. They are all good dogs and cats. They have saved alot of lives in the last 3 years that I have been volunteering. I hope they win this makeover.

    Pros

    Many Improvements

    Cons

    Old building

  • 27. Shelter needs a makeover

    by: constanceskyler

I have come to love Liberty Humane Shelter and the hard working staff and volunteers that keep it running. The building is in such bad shape that it is beyond repair. If this staff had a good building they could focus more on they're job of saving animals instead of dealing with daily repairs to the building.

    Pros

    great caring staff

    Cons

  • 32. A Great Shelter in a Community with Unusually High Needs

    by: bigbluesd

LCHS is in a difficult position -- as the primary humane shelter serving the large military base of Fort Stewart, they take in a huge number of animals left behind when soldiers deploy or are restationed and can not take them along. They do a great job of adopting out pets and are conscientious about where they place them, but unfortunately the incoming pet demand is so high that they are in dire need of space, money and manpower.

    Pros

Wide variety of pets that need home

    Cons

Not enough capacity or manpower to handle demand

  • 33. LHS working hard

    by: allmonta

The staff and volunteers at LHS consistently strive to provide the best for the animals they care for. They are always doing clinics for the public, raising public awareness about animals and their care, and fundraisers to support these dogs and cats. The problem is the actual shelter as it is old and not big enough. Think of all of the wonderful things they could do with a new or updated one.

    Pros

    excellent staff

    Cons

    horrible building situation

  • 34. Needs a makeover

    by: todde

The shelter is housed in an old concrete building that is too small to handle the abandoned animalsin this area.

  • 35. Big Hearts For Small Souls

    by: LifesGood

I believe everyone at the Liberty Humane Shelter tries to the best of their ability to look after the animals in their care. The shelter is old, in need of many things and runs off very little funding. Though there isn't much to work with the workers always put their hearts into making sure they save as many animals as possible and that they will be cared for.

Our shelter has been in need of being rebuilt for years. Mrs. Frye has done a fantasic job tring to improve the shelter. It take alot of her time and we need money so bad. The shelter is a non kill shelyer. That in itself is so wonderful, but it is hard taking care of all the animals. The poeple at teh shelter are very caring. That is the only way to operate a good shelter. Thank-you to all the people of liberty county and the surounding countys for all your help. We need more.

    by: MarkDoris

I have an experience with the LCHS personell. My wife was passing by with my Pitt Bull and the dog started tearin up stumps in the van. My wife went in and found a cute and adorable Chihuahua pupppy. Later that day she went back with me and I took a look at the puppy. The staff had earlier noticed that my Pitt had a severe case of the mange and they told me about a treatment that they had used on their own dogs that was known to completely cure it. They also let me know that it was at my own risk if I chose to try it. I talked it over with my vet and I was given a go ahead from him. Here it is almost 90 days after the start of the treatment and it is finished. My pit has noyt looked this good since just before she caught the mange the first time. Thanks a lot to the staff of LCHS for the wonderful help. Sandi is a much happie and energetic dog. You all are great.

    Pros

the staff and volunteers are very friendly and helpful

    Cons

they need more room for the animals.

  • 49. The Life savers of Liberty County Georgia

    by: rabbitjack

I have adopted 2 cats from the liberty humane shelter. The first time was in October of 2007, the staff was nice and the animals were healthy and happy. I noticed there were quite a few things that could be fine tuned in terms of their outdoor runs and such, so I volunteered to try and help out a bit. What i ran into was a very small almost non existent budget that could not possibly support the smaller projects that needed to be accomplished. So me being a soldier found a way to make things work and try to improve the facility. Unfortunately the more i worked this out the more problems I found. The New President Sandra Frye and the other employees definately had a job on their hands. After a while my job and personal life won out and in the end i wasnt able to continue helping out there. Not that they were dependent on myself, after I left there were more people stepping up to try and do things better. When i adopted my second cat in August of last year I toured the grounds and was so pleasantly surprised at the work that had been done. Ms. Stryker and her crew had taken the Baton and surpassed anything that I had hope to accomplish to improve the living conditions for these sweet voiceless animals. The Staff out there is truly dedicated to making the lives of so many animals as comfortable as they can. But the size of the facility makes it difficult to do as much as they want to. They would save them all if they could and make sure that they went to homes where they would not just be a pet but a member of the family. If any shelter deserves a Makeover it would be the Liberty Humane Shelter.

    Pros

Proffesional, Knowledgeable staff, and HEALTHY Animals!

    Cons

Small, Old and hard to move around in Facility

  • 50. Working Hard

    by: JacqJerry1

The shelter has been working very hard this last year to improve their facility. They have yard sales and all kind of fund raising events. When you go out their they are so friendly and seem to be woking very hard with the few resourses they have. They are a no kill shelter and that means everything to me. I thing it is a crime that our LOCAL GOVERNMENT will do nothing to help. They waste tons of money on many things and can not give our shelter any support. Please support your local shelter any way possible.

  • 56. Love and Understanding

    by: caNINEONEONE

It's not easy. What you might ask ? Its not easy taking in someone elses loved one as your own, care for them, love them, become attatched to them and then let them go. But it happens every day in shelters all across the United States. What makes Liberty Humane Shelter different you might ask? They do it with out the critisism of those that drop there pets off. See Liberty Humane Shelter is just outside Ft. Stewart, Ga. home the the Army's 3rd Infantry Division which deploys on a regular bases. Soldiers and their families want pets just like anyone else and while some times these families and pets work out and make lasting homes, sometimes they don't work out. The Liberty Humane Shelter knows this and understands the need to be accepting of these families that want the best for their pets but sometimes can not provide what it best. Some of the animals that come to the shelter are only there a short time and the conection and bond may not be as great. Others may be there a month or more and the staff and potential family pet form a bond. Yet the staff there understands that a home is far more important and that the family that is getting their new member will enjoy the bond and love only a pet can give. So while we may look at shelters as a place to put unwanted pets the Liberty Humane Shelter looks at it as a stop over for great family members looking for great families.

    Pros

    thoughtfulness, understanding, dedication

    Cons

    funding

  • 57. I know this shelter well

    by: cjz95

um well i loved the process of the time period while I was adopting my dog from this shelter. They tried their hardest to get him ready as soon as possible so I could take him home and love him like ive had him forever. I dont know if you remember or not but last year on june 14 i took home Otis after he got vacinated. He used to be your office dog and he still proves that he is a great dog becuase he is the biggest mommas boy I have ever seen. Im the little girl who came in almost yelling because myh dad said I could bring him home. I just thank you for taking care of him like he was your own until I fell in love with him and had to have him. Thanks again. Bye.

    Pros

    No kill shelter

    Cons

    needs more space

  • 58. Liberty Humane Shelter Has A Lot Of Heart!

    by: mariobro

The reason I have entitled this review "Liberty Humane Shelter Has A Lot Of Heart" is because they really, really do! The building the shelter is located in is terrible and so outdated! Yet the workers are there daily to love and care for as many animals as they can! The staff is very warm and inviting. When you come in to volunteer you feel very welcomed as if you were part of the group. Hats off to this great group of devoted people that are doing the best with what they've got! mom of mariobro

    Pros

The staff is very warm and inviting

    Cons

The building they are housed in is terrible!

  • 59. Let's win!

    by: Sly31313

If we would have a brand new shelter with much more space, more animals could be rescued. It is sad to see so many strays around this town and not being able to rescue them. The building seems to be in a bad condition and definitely too small. Right people are working there though which is nice to know. They really care and looks like they are willing to do whatever it takes to help the animals.

    Pros

    Nice, friendly people who care

    Cons

In serious need of a new building

  • 60. Amazing Shelter!

    by: pommom808

It is amazing what our Liberty Humane Shelter is doing for our animals and residents in Hinesville! Many of the shelters have much larger communities with many more wealthier donors to provide greater monetary resources! The Liberty Humane Shelter is operating on such a small budget!! They have HUGE hearts and provide amazing care for their animals! Hinesville is a military community, the home of Ft. Stewart, and is transient in nature. Many of our soldiers are young, single, and far from home. They are deployed multiple times to Iraq for periods of 15 months on a rotating basis. Those who are married leave behind young wives and small children. Pets are therapeudic! Our shelter helps them through the hardest of times by providing pets for them. It also rescues their pets when they have to give them up when deploying. They can know the true joy of pet ownership while home and trust our shelter to find loving homes for their pets when leaving. WOW, Liberty Humane Shelter! You are amazing!!!

    Pros

Caring and knowledgeable staff, amazing results with limited funds and resources

    Cons

Need a larger facility to offer more services for animals

  • 61. Pet Heaven

    by: marysue1050

the staff treats their animals like their in heaven. i know they would rather have a home but at least their somewhere that won't put them down. this shelter could be really great if they just had a little extra help.

    Pros

    they treat their animals great

    Cons

    smells and needs more staff

  • 62. I love this loving shelter!

    by: Jules1GSU

I adopted my two male cats from this shelter in October 2007. Since that time, I have donated what little I can to help them out. The new President on the board has really brought this shelter to a higher level. The new staff and dedicated volunteers have also helped bring this shelter to a higher level. Yes, we are part of a military community, but I do not think that the military should bear the total "burden" of supporting this shelter. I think ALL residents of Liberty County should step up, including the military base here. This staff and set of dedicated volunteers have absolutely transformed the yard and the buildings in just over a year! When I adopted my boys, they were talking about their dream of building a room to let the cats roam free and be able to climb and explore. The cats now have that! The yard has numerous kennels and fenced off sections for various uses. Slowly but surely their dreams of making the best of their location are really coming true. Though our local newspaper tries to show support for our shelter by running Pet Features and stories and updates about the animals, our local paper is struggling to stay alive in today's techno-savvy world. I wish the three news stations in Savannah would come out and do more feature stories to bring further awareness to the communities that surround Liberty County. I also wish that the local radio stations would promote the shelter more. But at least we now have the feature news story from WTOC, which is where I learned about Zootoo.com and how to get involved. I hope this shelter gets the makeover because they are so deserving. I wish I could adopt more animals, but I know I can only take good care of the ones I have for now. I love this shelter and am so glad that this service is here for our community! THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU DO FOR THESE WONDERFUL ANIMALS!!

    Pros

This shelter has the heart to be 100 times its size.

    Cons

I wish our community would really step up and take care of this shelter.

  • 63. Yes, they really do need this

    by: queenbee4758

They need this makeover so badly. They are limited on how many they can save to find homes for and to have food as well. We all need to help get them this makeover.

    Pros

    caring and thoughtful

    Cons

Not enough room to help all of them

  • 64. We need all the help we can get!

    by: Sisa

Liberty county could use all the help it can get when it comes to animals. This shelter is way too small considering the amount of homeless pets in the area. It hurts me just to think about all the animals being killed at the animal control because the shelter did not have a place for them.

    Pros

    Friendly, animal loving staff

    Cons

The building is too old and too small

  • 65. brock

    by: armywife1410

i adoped brock a 3 month old kitten from her the people were nice and brock is a great kitten he is healthy and friendly. these people deserve to have a new shelter to care for these animals the place is broke down and can use all the help we can give it.

    Pros

    pets well taken care of

    Cons

place needs a make over bad

  • 66. Support!

    by: MarrianneR

...which is WHY they're in this makeover contest! I was reading their site, and didn't know they collected cans, which we recycle, but have never taken to them! And since my business will be using canned drinks, and we use them, and my daughter uses them, hopefully our donation will help towards alleviating monthly costs! Support Liberty Humane Shelter, a great place with greater people!

    Pros

    Great Staff, Great Heart

    Cons

    Horrible Building...

  • 67. Adoption

    by: ladyrica

The staff was wonderful. They helped us choose the right dog for our needs and helped us get our two dogs acquainted with one another. We are very grateful to the shelter for helping us find the right fit in such a short time! We love the new addition to our family and she seems to be so happy to be with us!

    Pros

    Very knowledgable

    Cons

    Low on Dogs

  • 68. They need your help!

    by: animalluvver

This is one of the only no-kill shelters in the area. Because of this, they need more funding and space so they do not have to turn away any animals.

    Pros

    great staff and loving care

    Cons

    not enough money or space!

  • 69. This shelter has changed

    by: houstonm4148

The staff is awesome, always will to help and always very polite. The lady who runs it, Miss Sandra, does not play, she is very strict on how things are to be done. They have protocols and procedures that they must follow when cleaning and when dealing with the public and with the other agency attached to them. Everyone says that was involved them years ago, how much things have changed. My dad did some renovations for them and the place is much better. They deal with what they have since they are in a very old house that should not be a shelter. But, they make it work.. The animals there are healthy, well fed and are clean and happy. Yes, they are happy, maybe too, happy..Some of them don't want to leave. They had a cat run away from the adopted home and return to the shelter..Wow, that says it all hugh?

    Pros

    great animals

    Cons

    none

  • 70. Loving shelter

    by: Sunnyleo72

I have adopted three cats from this shelter. The staff do their absolute best to make sure that every animal receives the care and attention it deserves. I stop by there periodically to drop off animal food, and cans that can be used to recycle for a bit of extra money for the animals. Every time I go, I stop in to visit with the dogs and cats. They are always clean and appear happy and as stress-free as a kennel environment can be. Thanks to the shelter staff for providing a safe and comfortable place for these animals.

    Pros

The animals receive the best, loving care.

    Cons

More space is needed to house the animals.

  • 71. I Love This Shelter- It's Warm Hearted

    by: luckymarch98

I love this shelter. The people are great, the dogs are in good hands, but we don't have enough of anything and we need a LOT more space. Everyone is friendly, but we just BADLY need a better shelter. The shelter isn't the best AT ALL. But the people are very warm hearted!

    Pros

    Great People

    Cons

    Not enough Space

  • 72. What a changed place

    by: stevefrye

Liberty Humane Shelter has done so many changes in the last couple of years. It really has been a work in progress. They always have something new planned to improve but money and poor conditions limit what they can do. They are faced with constant financial issues because they are a non profit organization, they do the best they can with donations, small grants, and with fundraisers. And the building they are in is in such dire need to be bulldozed. They are only putting a bandaid on the situation, they need major renovations, they need a new building.. They need this makeover in the worst kinds of ways...

    Pros

    Changed for the better

    Cons

    Hopeless conditions

  • 73. thank you very very much

    by: kalynilcken

i love that place the people are very friendly and they even love each and every one of the animals there i think they should get the make over because they deserve it and they sersously need it 3 people cant walk side by side in that place thats why i wish it was bigger inside

    Pros

very nice people they care about all the animals

    Cons

it was very small in there they need more room

  • 74. Great Staff, shelter needs help

    by: OnealMeryl

I was out at the shelter today with my 3 grandchildren. Met the Staff who were very nice and all need a shiny star, as I am sure at times it must get discouraging to work where you see so many animals needing homes and the ones that never make it. But they seemed very upbeat about this contest and each little step forward that the shelter makes helps spur them on. I wish I could win the lottery for them. My grandchildren asked if they could come out and help walk the dogs and they said they were more than welcomed to do it. So we have set aside a day and time and hopefully we can bring a little sunshine into their lives.

    Pros

Staff are friendly and walk around with potential adoption families

    Cons

needs a facelift from the ground up

  • 75. Needs a lot of help!

    by: Dysfunctund

The people at this shelter are very caring and are doing all that they can. They need a bigger building and more help to make it a better place for the animals.

    Pros

    Very caring staff.

    Cons

    needs a lot of work

  • 76. RV Parks that are pet friendly

    by: merlewatson

We have stayed at several military RV parks and the best one for pets is Pelican's Roost at Mayport, Fl. There is a large area for walking your pet and plenty of other pet lovers about. We found a wonderful vet that is open seven days a week from 7 to 7. They take walk-ins. They are located on Atlantic Blvd. and San Pablo. Sometimes when you are traveling with pets, you have a pet get sick and most emergency clinics are expensive. To have a vet available that offers regular services and fees seven days a week is wonderful.

    Pros

regular prices, open 7 days a week, walk-in service

    Cons

none that I can think of

  • 77. AWESOME

    by: Cari415

I think this shelter is the best one i have been to. We are here for the animals not just for soemwhere to work. We love all the animals and will do anyhting for them. We try our hardest

    Cons

    none

  • 78. amazing

i miss being at the shelter all the time... everything done there is in the benefit of every animal possible and there are just so many that need homes there isnt nearly enough space to put them all. but it is a great place that i love... and the people are so sweet and caring to everyone including the animals.... its hard to find such a dedicated place to what they do... and im happy to say that i was a part of that at one point in time...

    Pros

they do all they can to help as many animals as possible

    Cons

    there isnt nearly enough space

  • 79. These guys rock!

    by: jdemmin

I have gotten two pets from this shelter. One was a quiet, shy female dog that looked like Wishbone from the t.v. show. My kids just had to have her. She has been the most wonderful addition to our family! The staff was so helpful and patient with us as we tried to find a way to take all the pets home with us! They were honest about what they knew about our Princess and what they were unsure about. \nThe other dog we adopted there was an interesting mix of a mutt. The staff was as fascinated by her as we were. She had a wonderful personality and it was clear she was a favorite there. Again - they were thorough and fair when it came to the adoption. It was a sad day when our Marley escaped the fence and never returned. The shelter staff helped us keep an eye for her and posted flyers for us. They were so kind when we were so sad.\nMy daughter did community service hours there and loved it. The people and the pets were wonderful to work with. We make it a point to be contributers whenever we can.\n

    Pros

You can tell they all care about each animal

    Cons

Shelter is small and getting old - unable to handle the numbers

  • 80. Please help Liberty get the makeover

    by: susanjk1955

With what the Liberty Humane Shelter has to work with..They do an excellent job! Dawn did a great job on the cat room. The cats love it! The animals are happy there and even happier when adopted. None go hungry and that is one thing I like about it. I hope everyone works on helping Liberty get the points need to push them to the top!\r\n

    Pros

    Great people there!

    Cons

the shelter is outdated and out grown it's self.

  • 81. Deserves to win makeover

    by: TheresaDavis

I feel this shelter deserves to win the makeover. Everyone is so knowledgeable and truly care about the animals. I went there to visit because I was doing a project for college and everyone was so helpful. I hope to be able to write a grant along with the shelter staff and get it approved. \n\nI adopted a pet from there 5 years ago and she is doing well. Shirley, is a american bulldog, pitbull, hound mix and is very loving and spoiled.\n\nI would say to anyone that wants to adopt to do that, but make sure it is a lifetime commitment.\n\nMy dog, Buster, died on September 20 and I miss him terribly. He was a great dane and thought he was human.\n\nI hope the animals get adopted and find good homes.\n\nThanks to all the staff that helped me to get the information I needed for my project. I will be in touch to get started with the grant.\n\n

    Pros

    Wonderful staff

    Cons

    None

  • 82. Hardworking dedicated Volunteers

    by: heatherzilla

Living in Liberty County, I often hear about adoptable pets at the fundraising events LHS. We have always participated as much as possible (Pouring for Paws is always fun!) and sent in donations. \n\nAlthough Liberty Humane Shelter and the Liberty County Animal Control are housed in the same building, they are completely separate entities. Liberty Humane Shelter receives no funding, they rely solely on donations. The building is in deplorable condition, through no fault of the staff and volunteers. It is common knowledge that Liberty County has the one of worst facilities in the region. The staff and volunteers work diligently to make the best of what they have. \n\nI have been to Liberty Humane Shelter/Liberty County Animal Control a few times to pick up an animal for transport or to go to a foster home. The staff and volunteers were always friendly and professional. They were grateful for any assistance. \n\nI would love to see Liberty Humane Society have a new, modern facility that would accommodate more animals. Sadly, a large number of animals end up at Animal Control and and lose their lives because there is not enough space available in the area shelters or foster groups.

    Pros

    Hardworking Volunteers

    Cons

    Small, outdated facilities

  • 83. Needs the makeover

    by: csmatheson

I like the shelter and they do need the make over as there are many many pets in that area that need help due to the military base. They do not have the space but they do the best they can trying not to let the animals sleep on the streets.

    Pros

They take in as many pets as possible

    Cons

not enough room to handle as many pets that need a home

  • 84. People who care

    by: gjfrye

Save a dog or cat today.\r\nGreat place to find a pet. All animals adopted are healthy, has shots and are spayed/neutered. Well worth the fee. Great one stop for your pet; fewer trips to the vet to spay. \r\nThe people who work/volunteer here is the heart of this shelter. The amount of love/time given to this shelter is what keeps it going. The people never give up and will do what it takes to keep afloat.\r\nMake a commitment to the shelter this holdiay season. Give your donation today to take advantage of taxes. Great way to teach kids to give; give a donation in their name and take them to visit the shelter. They can learn to give for the holidays.\r\n

    Pros

    Great staff

    Cons

    not enough money

  • 85. Has improved but needs more help

    by: natalie13

The shelter has made some improvements since my volunteer days. I volunteered when i was in high school , which was about 12 years ago. Unfortunately, the same facility is being used but the layout has improved. I like the cat play area and i like the new dog pens. But what is needed is a brand new facility!!!

    Pros

    caring staff

    Cons

    small shelter

  • 86. HUGE Improvement

    by: laureng1409

In 2006 I adopted a dog who I hold very dear to my heart. When I went there the shelter smelt horrible, the animals looked sick, It did not look clean, and the staff seemed like they just wanted the animals to be gone rather then really trying to truely know the person who wanted to adopt. \n\nRecently during their yardsale I went and checked out the facility and there was soooo much improvement! It smelled nice and clean, the animals looked healthy and happy, and they were very friendly! I hope that we this community can come togther and really help these animals out by giving the Liberty Humane Shelter and new and improved look...they definitely deserve it! These animals just want to be loved and cared for !

    Pros

Wonderful staff that truely care for the animals

    Cons

    Delapedated Building

  • 87. Great Staff, not so great facilities

    by: Bandana

If I were only rating the people involved with Liberty Humane Shelter, they would be rated over the top. The staff and volunteers are dedicated to providing the very best for the animals that find themselves residents of LHS. But the facility needs more - more space, more funding, more community understanding, more responsible pet owners.

    Pros

    Extremely Dedicated Staff

    Cons

Not enough funding, not enough space

  • 88. GREAT PLACE

The Liberty Humane Shelter has the hardest working volunteers and staff on the planet. They work tirelessly to save as many dogs and cats as possible and have a genuine love for these animals. They are continuously having fundraisers to support this shelter and need our help. Just think what could be done with a shelter make-over!

    Pros

  • 92. Help us, Help them!

    by: sfrye

Where do I start?\r\nI am not sure I am the best one to review this shelter. This shelter has my heart, these animals have my heart and soul and this mission that I am on has got to take this shelter to a better place.\r\nOver 2 years ago, I went to a meeting.. WOW!\r\nI was oblivious to the fact that the Liberty Humane Shelter received no funding from the county or state or federal government..I could not believe my ears...\r\nSo, we set off to raise funds for the shelter. And we did...but it is never enough!\r\nIt took me a few weeks to go by and WOW I could not believe my eyes.. I could not stand it..\r\nAt the next meeting, I explained that we would be glad to help raise funds but that the funds we helped raise "had" to be used to improve the conditions for the animals... The existing board approved our requests and asked what we had in mind..\r\nWell, right after the fund raiser was over, the President was ill and stepped down from her presidency... I agreed to fill in temporarily...\r\nWell, here I am! \r\nThe building was painted, the parking lot was graded to prevent the flooding to the building, the bathroom got new fixtures, the cats got new kennels, the dogs got new kennels inside and the outside kennels were fixed to accomodate outside play..The carport was closed in, insulated, heated and air conditioned. Another shed was made into a 2nd quarantine area. More staff was hired, some were fired, meds were bought, cleaning procedures were started and enforced. Vets were \r\nconsulted and a plan of action was put into play.\r\nIMPROVEMENTS WERE MADE! That was 2007!\r\nStill, there is only so much you can do when you have so little to work with. \r\nIn 2008 the cat rooms were built thanks to our angel, Dawn. We got another quarantine shed to make it 3. A tub was put in to wash our dishes in because we were using buckets. More hook ups were put in for washing machines because we do about 10 loads a day. Some electrical work was \r\ndone to help with lighting. Some more paint was put on in April on the floors and look at them now..Some concrete was poured for the puppy \r\npads outside so they can go out without touching the dirt--because our dirt kills puppies...\r\nAnd a few dozen other projects were started and completed... \r\nMany more are in the works but MONEY is the factor here.. No money, no improvements...\r\nThe building is old old old.. It was an old house..\r\nThe electrical is down right dangerous. The plumbing is a joke, I can not count the number of times I have plundged the toilet and the drains.\r\nThe hot water heater is not hooked up because we need an electrician to hook it up. There is only one water pump, both facilities can not clean at the same time. \r\nThe grounds have had so many animals on it over the years, I am convinced it is infested with the parvo virus. Cross contamination is a real factor here... Our animals are exposed daily to germs and diseases because we are in the same facility as animal control. Even Department of Agriculture recommends separation of the two facilities if possible.. The walls move, actually that is our roaches and mice..even though it is sprayed monthly, the place is infested. The parking lot is a mess all the time. It is amazing the animals are in as good shape as they are...\r\nThe bottom line is... we are here for the animals.\r\nWe are committed to make their stay with us as comfortable as possible until their forever family comes for them..\r\nWE NEED HELP, WE WANT TO DO MORE BUT WE DO NOT HAVE THE MEANS TO DO IT..\r\n\r\nHELP US HELP THEM!\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Pros

    This place has changed!

    Cons

This place needs to be bulldozed!

  • 93. Help them

    by: tankerwife

This shelter is dedicated to saving the animals and giving them good homes. It is located in a military town and when people deploy or move they just dump their animals and don't care enough to find them a home. This shelter is small and with some help they would be able to expand and take in many more animals and could help more of them find their forever home.\r\n\r\nI got Bella from this shelter and she has been a wonderful addition to our family. I would like to see them be able to give more animals good homes!

    Pros

the people there are dedicated to the animals

    Cons

there is a limit to what they can do

  • 94. Pitiful use of county funds

    by: gespino

Liberty County is home to Fort Stewart, army base. A lot of money pours into the county due to federal impact funds, taxes, and high cost of living. The county recently built a new Board of Education building which costs millions - has marble floors and stair cases. Click here for a picture: http://www.liberty.k12.ga.us/Administration/ then compare with the sad, sad picture already posted of the Liberty County Humane Society shelter. It is in dire need of repairs, upgrades, etc.

    Pros

    Caring staff

    Cons

    Buiding in need of repair

  • 95. Needs a new house!!!

    by: octavius

The shelter is in a delplorable state--there is never enough room--no space for the dogs to exercise, when the soldiers are deployed many more pets are sent to this shelter. This place just needs to start from the beginning!!!!! A new place is needed for these precious pets!!

    Pros

    very friendly and knowledgeable staff

    Cons

No exercise field, shelter needs major repairs

  • 96. Liberty Humane Shelter Total Makeover!

    by: dstrykr

Liberty Humane Shelter pulls animals from the Liberty County Animal Control Facility before they are euthenized! They have saved thousands of lives! \r\n\r\nThis facility has come a long way under their new president, Sandra Frye. Sandra became the new shelter president only two years ago. I am first hand witness as to how this facility was before and after her arrival. Now that the animals are much more healthy, the office work much more organized and the customer service much more friendly, the shelter needs a new makeover!\r\n\r\nPlease visit their website at \r\nwww.libertyhumaneshelter.com . \r\nIf you click on Sponsor A Shelter Project, you will see the condition of the shelter building. This is an old County brick building. Indeed, they are co-located in the same building as the County Animal Control Office. Their 16 x 16 office can barely hold one dog and three people during an adoption, let alone their employees, vet tech, volunteers and more visitors!\r\n\r\nSo please consider this shelter for a makeover! They have worked hard to make it the best it can be. Now they need your help to build a facility to match the standard they have so honorably achieved!\r\n\r\nKathleen Strykr

    Pros

Extremely clean facility, big healthy & happy cats and dogs!

    Cons

    This shelter needs a makeover
