This is a wonderful organization. I just had my second pet neutered there and they were extremely helpful. They also gave me great advice to trap my third cat (thats too fast for me).

  • 2. An exceptional shelter...

    by: ColoradoKid123

Adopted a fabulous mixed-breed LARGE dog several years ago, and they were great. I'm in love with all no-kill shelters, even though this limits their availability. They are also selective/screen potential pet owners to ensure that the animals get the BEST possible chance at life. You go, Kent!! If you were closer to Patchogue, I'd volunteer with you... God Bless you guys. Well worth the trip for a wonderful pet!

    Pros

    Many wonderful animals in need!

    Cons

    none.

  • 3. THANK GOD FOR KENT

    by: DVOGEL

AFTER MY DOBIE PASSED AWAY I DID NOT THINK I WOULD BE ABLE TO HAVE ANOTHER DOG. A FEW MONTHS WENT BY AND THE HOUSE WAS JUST TO EMPTY FOR ME AND MY FAMILY, SO WE WENT TO KENT AND THERE WE FOUND DIESEL. DIESEL CAME IN WITH A SISTER SHEEBA AND I HAD NEVER HAD 2 LARGE BREED DOGS BEFORE SO WE ONLY ADOPTED DIESEL. WELL AFTER ABOUT A MONTH WE COULDN'T RESIST SO WE WENT BACK TO GET DIESEL'S SISTER AND I CAN'T THANK KENT ENOUGH FOR ALLOWING US TO ADOPT THE GREAT DOGS. THEY ARE DOING SO GREAT AND THE FAMILY JUST LOVES HAVING THEM AROUND. WE HAVE STOPPED BY FOR VISITS SO EVERYONE CAN SEE HOW THEY ARE DOING AND THE STAFF THERE ARE JUST SO WONDERFUL AND ALL ABOUT THE ANIMAL. THEY LOVE THEM SO. MY HUSBAND AND I HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO GO TO A FUND RAISER TO BENEFIT KENT AND IT WAS JUST A GREAT TIME. WE WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT KENT AND THEIR EFFORST TO FIND ANIMALS GOOD HOMES. \r\nTHANKS KENT FOR BEING THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    CAN'T THINK OF A ONE.

  • 4. A wonderful Animal Shelter

    by: cnart17

vI go to the Kent Animal shelter often, to visit and pet the cats, and to see the dogs. The people who work there are so nice. They welcome it when I come with my son, because they know that the cats need all the attention they can get. They have an awesome cat room, where the cats can roam free. It's filled with climbing poles and perches, and all kinds of cat toys. The cats that are there get a wonderful experience, nearly as good as a home. The dogs, ono the other hand, don't have it as good. the dog runs are old, and small, with concrete floors. The building is old and drafty. It is kept very clean, and the dogs get blankets, but they have no toys and the lighting isn't too good either. Kent really needs a makeover for the dogs. I got my dog there, and every time I go I wish I could take all the dogs home. they get wonderful dogs, and I think more would get adopted if they lived in a nicer environment.

    Pros

No Kill shelter, great cat rooms

    Cons

    dog runs old and rundown

  • 5. Always understanding, secure and dependable, did i forget-affordable!!!!!!

    by: furpel

I have been using Kent animal for the past 20 years. When I mention their name, I always get a positive response. I have never met such truly humane caring employees at an animal shelter as they are at\r\nthe Kent facility. And the best thing is that when I have had my animals spayed or neutered, they act as though nothing has even been done to them when I pick them up. If it wasn't for a tiny shave on the females belly, I would wonder if they had undergone any kind of sugical procedure and the males; oh well, they just walked a little funny with the hind legs for a day.

    Pros

affordable, animals always spunky on pick-up

    Cons

17 miles away from my home

  • 7. Animal Lovers should do all they can to support their local shelter

    by: luvmik9sx2

Back in 1994 I adopted a 12 week old beagle puppy from Kent and he turned out the be the love of my life, the one. The one pet that you never forget and the one that takes a part of you when they leave but leaves you enough love in your heart to love another.\r\nFor that, I consider Kent Animal Shelter to be the people resonsible for allowing me this beautiful gift.

    Pros

What else can you say about a no kill facility?

    Cons

My only cons are cats! I am a dog lover.

  • 8. Kent Animal Shelter is a wonderful haven for pets

    by: myfivecats5

\r\nI have been dealing with Kent animal shelter for over a year now. I have given Kent two cats for adoption. I have adopted one kitten in Dec. 2006 and i am very pleased with him. I have brought stray cats there for spaying and neutering and i am always treated very nicely .\r\n\r\nEveryone is friendly and knowledgeable. My husband and I go there to visit with a kitten we gave for adoption that is still there, and to visit with the cats in the cat room. It is a great experience. especially if you are a cat lover like we are, we have 5 cats all indoor cats (that is where they belong) and we feed stray cats outside, right now about five or so.\r\n\r\n

    Pros

    Just a wonderful shelter

    Cons

    can't think of any

  • 9. Go To Kent

    by: cphershon

Friendly staff. Convenient location off LIE. Spay/neuter & low-cost vaccination clinic onsite. Sometimes free rabies clinics. Used to have low-cost feral cat spay/neuter days; not sure if they still do. I adopted Bonzo & Freddie from here in 1996.

    Pros

Recently expanded cat quarters is open & clean

    Cons

Still seems they could use more space.

  • 10. The Kent Animal Shelter - One of the best on Long Island!

    by: jkjayne092306

What can't I say about this place?!?! It's just wonderful!!!\r\n\r\nTo start, when you walk into the actual building where the dogs are kept the first thing I noticed the most was that it did not smell. Obviously, the place is alittle old and there are some spots on the walls here and there, but all in all, the place was clean!\r\n\r\nThe other thing that stood out was the staff. Everyone there was SO friendly and knowlegable.\r\n\r\nThe dogs and cats seem very well cared for and in great health.\r\n\r\nThe shelter requires that all pets being adopted be microchipped and spayed or neutered, which is great but and this is really my only complaint, the scheduling of it is not good. Because this is a service that comes with the adoption, those pups are "bumped" for those pets that are paying for the surgery. The problem with this, is that it slows down the adoption process and the ability to take your new pet home immediately.\r\n\r\nMy sister inlaw got her cat there and she and her family had to wait over a week to pick their kitty up b/c she kept getting bumped by "paying patients". But the fact that they offer this service for free to those who adopt and a discounted rate to those who bring their pet in, is still a great thing. \r\n\r\nAll in all, my experience with the Kent Animal Shelter was and is so far a great one! So much so, that I've submitted an application to volunteer my time there!

    Pros

    Incredibly friendly and knowlegable staff.

    Cons

    Spay/Neutering Scheduling

  • 12. We Need More Facilities Like Kent!

    by: scubakitty

I've been to Kent a number of times, for adoptions, for spay & neuter and to take friends there for a pet. They are friendly, the place is clean and everyone genuinely cares for the well being of all the animals. I love the fact that they have a retirement home for felines. And it 's a wonderful place for a cat to retire, plenty of perches, scratching posts and places to lay out and look out the huge windows at the picturesque grounds. I hope I can retire to such a nice place! From adoptions/rescues, vet services to retirement, this establishment does it all very well and they do it thanks to donations from many supporters. If you are looking for a great place to donate your money (or estate in your will), this is it. They will put it to good use for the betterment & welfare of Long Islands animals.\n\nPS...I don't work there, I'm just very thankful that they doing all they do and are within driving distance. =)

    Pros

Caring Staff, Clean, Friendly, No-Kill, Cat Retirement options,Lo Cost Spay & Neuter

    Cons

??? I don't think there are any cons
