  • 1. Volunteers very helpful, paid staff not so much

I adopted a dog from this shelter in (approximately) 1994 and am highly considering adopting my next dog from this shelter as well. Although the paid staff aren't very friendly and need some lessons in customer service, they ARE very knowledgable. They don't necessarily go out of their way to ask you if you have any questions, but when you do approach them, I've found them to be very helpful in answering them and looking up any information they might not know. The volunteers, on the other hand, are excellent! They obviously are very dedicated to the animals, are quick to answer questions, and will not hesitate to advocate for the shelter's animals as well. You can tell they definately want the BEST home for each animal, and will make sure that the pets aren't placed wherever is most convenient. Now, having seen both the old shelter and their newer one, I am very impressed with the change. The old shelter was small, smelly, and cramped, but now that they've moved, they are in a location that is more convenient to walk the animals, they've increased the size of the shelter, and it smells much better. The only thing I don't like about their new location is the fact that they no longer separate the puppies and older dogs, which at times causes some of the smaller dogs to have more anxiety.

Very helpful volunteers and a brand new, clean, and larger building!

Paid staff not involved much, puppies and big dogs not separated

Have gone there numerous times to visit and check out the animals but it seems to me that no one would take the time to talk to me and they do not seem to be working either. Just a lot of stand offish staff that it seems almost a bother to them to help you find an animal to take home
