  • 2. Best dog park i've been to!

    by: jlanderson913

It's been a while since i've been to this park, but of all the dog parks i have visited this was by far the best. Lots of room for dogs to run as well as a walking trail for owners. buckets of water, poop stations, spray bottles incase of a dog fight, it has everything! I loved bringing my dog here!

I have used this park off and on for about 5 years now. I live in a small town about 30 miles away, so it involves a road trip to get to and from the park, but my dogs have all loved car rides, so that isn't a problem. What IS a problem though, is the parking area. It is not clearly marked, so people tend to park wherever and however they want (which is a pain in the tail when it is busy), and if there is even a LITTLE rain, it is a massive mudhole... and the dogs have to walk through it then get into the vehicle. For the most part, the other owners have been attentive to their dog(s). But obviously, by the amount of dog poop NOT picked up (despite numerous bag dispensers and trash cans), not all owners are abiding the rules. There's no enforcement. I have been there when a young man brought his 3 dogs into the large dog area, who proceeded to go in 3 different directions and pick fights with 3 different dogs. He stood there and laughed. My dog was one of those attacked (unprovoked). My 2 dogs lived in the country in Oklahoma until we moved back to Wisconsin last summer. They were used to running and doing as they wanted when they wanted in the pastures and fields around our home. Here, we live in town, so the park is a welcome release for them. The last two trips there, I drove 30 miles one-way, only to have to turn around and head back within 20 minutes of arrival because of aggressive other dogs who went after not just my dogs (still leashed inside the entrance) but myself as well. There needs to be some kind of reporting system, enforcement, etc... and paved parking would be a wise investment.

fenced & secure, different areas for big and little dogs.

mud mud mud mud mud and owners who don't pick up poop.

My dog enjoys this park. There are always a lot of dogs to play with. It's a nice sized area and well kept.

  • 6. Jefferson County Pet Play Area

    by: reneeb8888

The dog park located just outside of Jefferson is always busy in the summer, and still attracts owners and their pets in the winter. At the end of last year they had a poop scoop competition to clean up the park and the person who scooped the most won some pet prizes. I think having a dog park is a good idea, but all participants need to abide by the rules and clean up after their pet so it is a clean environment for all who use it. Now the county is actually talking about expanding it so we'll have to wait and see if that happens.

    Large area for pets.

Not all people clean up after their pet.
