  • 1. HSSC is Awesome

    by: kristinarussell

We adopted our dog a year ago from the shelter and I have volunteers a few times there. I can unequivocally say that everyone affiliated with the shelter cares so much about animals and that they provide the best environment and home for these furry friends before they get their forever home. \r\n\r\nPlease support HSSC in any way that you can.\r\n

    Pros

Care for the animals so much

    Cons

    none

    by: Bubbled26

There was a guy (I am assuming the previous manager) who was very very rude to a friend of mine and me when we brought in things to donate. He acted as though he wanted nothing to do with us, and we totally felt our donations were not appreciated. It just made me not want to go in there. I haven't been back since. I would still consider adopting from them, but for the animal. Things may be better now, because I have heard they have a new manager so maybe they have made the necessary changes that place needed.

    Pros

The are doing wonderful things for homeless dogs and cats by finding them homes

    Cons

    Not always the cleanest

  • 3. I got my little brother at HSSC

    by: bmccay

Hi, I'm Gabriel, a kitty who was found at a Nashville school. My mom adopted me and helped me get well, then a year later she got my little brother, Nelson, at the HSSC so I wouldn't be lonely at home all day while she's at work. I just LOVE him! We run and play and wrestle, and we snuggle and groom and sleep in a pile in the window.\r\n\r\nMy mom said that the HSSC is a wonderful place for kitties and dogs who don't have a forever home yet. She said there were lots of workers there the day she adopted Nelson, and everyone was friendly, and the shelter was very clean for a place where lots of kitties live. She said all the kitties and grown up cats were calmly waiting for their forever parents to come get them. She said since they were calm, that meant they were being very well taken care of at the shelter.\r\n\r\nMom also said that if we had a bigger house, Nelson and I would have LOTS of brothers and sisters! That's what we want for Christmas, but we don't think that's going to happen this Christmas.... maybe another Christmas.

    Pros

clean, friendly, I can't believe Jeanmarie knows all their names!

    Cons

too small - they need a shelter makeover!

Our adoption center has wonderfully friendly, healthy, and highly adoptable animals! We also have one of the most dedicated and hard-working staffs you'll ever find. We're proud to have been serving the animals and people of this community for over 30 years and would like for everyone in the community to become familiar with us and what we are able to offer. We depend on their support and are so very grateful for all they do for us -- they enable us to continue to find homes for homeless animals, keep them healthy while they are with us, support community wide spay and neuter programs, keep a database of lost and found animals, and many, many other services for the human and animal populations. Come visit us and meet our fabulous furr babies and stellar staff!

  • 8. Friendly & Fastastic to people and animals!

    by: cervoned

I currently have 14 cats and a small poodle and many of them and my previous beloved furr-babies were adopted from this shelter. Every one that I have adopted from HSSC has been in excellent health and extremely well cared for by the wonderful staff at this shelter. I am so happy that they were able to become a no-kill shelter, like many others in this area still are. I thank you for, Duncan, Rajah, Shadow, Muffin, Phoenix and Lacey, to name a few that have come to live with me from during the past few years. I am sure that I will be bringing home more in the future too. Many thanks for your great service to the Hendersonville community!

    Pros

Great staff! Friendly & Helpful! Excellent care to the animals!

    Cons

Would like to see them enlarge the facility to accomodate more needy animals in our community,

  • 9. My dear Abbigale

    by: lesliemss

My dear Abbigale came from this shelter. She was just days away from being, you know the unspoken term is not used at my house. She is the greatest dog I've ever had in my life she is kind and loving and very intelligent. She gets along well with everyone.\r\nThe shelter and its workers are very knowledgeable and loving to the pets. This place is clean and all the staff are very passionate about what they do. I would reccommend anyone in Sumner County that is looking for a great pet to got there and look first.

The Humane Society of Sumner County, TN is small, but mighty!! We have a dedicated group of hard working, caring and dynamic individuals who are passionate about providing assistance for animals in our community. We provide sanctuary, medical assistance, food and love to those animals seeking shelter while they are in a transitional period in their lives either from: homelessness, being lost, or an owner surrender. And sadly, some of these sweet babies are just abandoned. This organization has been in the community for over 33 years and works diligently at supporting the adoption center. Please help us with the dream of a beautiful replacement facility which will more accurately reflect the beauty of this organization and the many caring people associated with it. Thank you for your support!!!!!

    Pros

    Wonderful

    Cons

    Needs new facilty
