  • 1. Great Shelter

    by: glenndesigns

I adopted my dog Bella from here. The staff was helpful and knowledgeable. They filled me in on what they knew about Bella as far as where she came from, her temperment and age. They spayed her before we brought her home and microchipped her. I would recommend this shelter to anyone thinking of adopting a pet. The facilities were well kept, the dogs' areas were clean and the animals were in good condition. They do a good job of maintaining their facilities ad taking care of the animals they have. Very nice shelter.

    Pros

    2 locations to choose from

    Cons

Lancaster location is in bad area of town; website isn't always up to date

    by: pj0908

This shelter seems to do a lot and they REALLY need a makeover. I wish it could be turned into a no kill shelter. They seem to do the best with what they have.

    Pros

    Cons

  • 5. They Need This Makeover

    by: ztT4MP49528152

I got my standard poodle there and the people are wonderful, doing a lot with little. Ziggy is the best dog ever and even though he was only there for 4 days, he was shellshocked, but the people cared.

    Pros

    The animals are great!

    Cons

The place is a scary place in terms of facilities

  • 6. The best place ever

    by: dmcdaniel35

In my mind HSNT is the best shelter I have ever been to... I have been to many. It is well organized and well maintained on a small budget. They offer so much help for the community as well as animals and they really do not get the credit they deserve. The shelter has been in operation for many years and we ( Fort Worth) want it to stay in Operation. So if your in the neighborhood or if you just want to send some money do so...Drop in and say hello and take a tour. It will be worth your time.

    Pros

Everyone there are very knowledgeable of all kinds of animals

    Cons

    They are a kill shelter

  • 9. Wonderful shelter

    by: dawnm

The staff here are amazing. They are always trying to walk the dogs and still be there for prospective new parents. Unfortunately they are a kill shelter when at capacity.

    Pros

    Staff are very friendly

    Cons

the building is very old/ not enough volunteers

  • 10. HSNT

    by: JenniferThiery

The employees here are awsome, they love to help and take extra good care of all their animals. Considering it is an extreamly old shelter, I feel they do the best they can with what they have. This shelter definately needs a make over, it has been around for over 100 years now and it definately needs an update. So come on people, lets try our best to get them the help they need so they can help all the animals that needs their special love and care!

    Pros

    Hard working employees who care

    Cons

Needs more room to take care of more animals

  • 11. HSNT

This is a great shelter! It is full of animals that need forever homes. It is also full of great and very caring employees and volunteers. The shelter is very clean. The satellite shelter is great as well.

    Pros

They have two locations to serve Fort Worth.

    Cons

Main location needs more grass space for volunteer dog walkers.

  • 12. THANK YOU!

    by: txn108

I love the fact that their website is updated several times a week and that the employees try their best to write a blip about each animal so that anyone can choose a few to look at and get to know before they go to the shelter.

    Pros

Great Vet help for the animals in need

    Cons

    Needs up to date/newer cages

  • 13. Wonderful Adoption

    Cons

I wanted to take home all the animals

  • 15. I wouldn't go anywhere else!

    by: Skern

The south west adoption center has always been the one stop shop for my personal and professional animal needs. I work for a senior living company who adopts pets for their communities and they have always done a great job custom fitting appropriate pets for us. They care so much about the animals they take in, you almost feel guilty for adopting them away from the staff. They are always a mixture of happy and sad to see one of their animals go.\r\n\r\nA special thank you to the Director Sherri Eason who always makes herself available to answer any of my questions or animal concerns. She goes above and beyond what is asked of her and she really does care about each animal she comes into contact with.\r\n\r\nThank you to the staff of the South West Adoption Center!

    Pros

    Very friendly and professional staff

    Cons

    Nothing bad about this location

  • 25. Hard Working Shelter

    by: CarolMajernik

This shelter must encompass a large population area there in Texas. Amazing that they even took in two bears. Guess there is no sanctuary there for wild animals. Here in western Pennsylvania, we have several wildlife animal sanctuaries. One in Youngwood takes in small wildlife , like birds, squirrels, etc. One of the vets in Uniontown runs a sanctuary for the big cats, like tigers.\nBest of luck!

    Pros

    Sounds like a safe place.

    Cons

    A kill shelter.

  • 26. Awesome!

  • 27. Help

    by: ztT4MP35894129

We adopted two dogs. The staff person doing our adoption was new and didn't know much about the forms. It ended up taking about three hours. Thanks to other staff persons who stepped in to help us. \r\nBoth dogs are well behaved and friendly but one had to go back to get one spayed. The staff in the spaying area (receiving) seemed overwhelmed and not very happy to be there. More matter-of-fact type person. Some staff we saw along the way to receiving greeted us and was happy to see the animals and did ask about how they were adjusting. One even showed us a picture of our animal on her phone (she fell in love with him). \r\nWe also found out today that when we had to register our dogs for their rabies with the city that it will not be a one-time deal as stated by the Humane Society but a yearly thing and that it also costs. They need to be infomed about this. But koodo's to them for at least telling us they needed to be registered. Our vet from a past dog didn't even do that. \r\nOne other thing I didn't appreciate was that they made us pay a down-payment for my one dog to get spayed. They wanted $100 CASH ONLY (which ended up costing me an additional $7 in fees for an atm that wasn't my bank) that day and then tried to tell me that I WOULD NOT get CASH back the day I brought my dog in but would receive a CHECK in 4-6 weeks after the surgery. \r\nWe just wanted to help out by adopting a dog that was unwanted. I'm not too sure that we will approach this route the next time we want a pet. There are others that are free and just as good. (This is how I received my other pets in the past.)

    Pros

Staff was friendly and helpful in adoption area

    Cons

Staff didn't know how to fill out forms for adoption and receiving was unfriendly

  • 28. Does a great job!

    by: mleppala

I volunteer at the Humane Society twice a month. I have cats at home and that is why I usually walk the dogs when I am at the shelter. \r\n\r\nI think that the people at the Humane Society are doing an excellent job with the animals. I wish they would have more room and money to take care of more animals. More need to be available for adoption.

    Pros

    They take any animal

    Cons

Not all animals make it to adoption

  • 29. Equine haven

    by: lisalipton33

In the past 14 months, this group has rescued over 140 horses fromn terrible circumstances. These incredible efforts merit special recognition in the form of a huge shelter makeover!\r\n\r\nAnd horses are not their only denizens...they also take in dogs cats and other small animals...

    Pros

    Wonderful rescue successes

    Cons

    facilities need a boost

  • 30. Grateful for this group

    by: tabchance

I looked all over for the perfect dog to adopt when I came across a little spaniel mix on HSNT's web site. He was being fostered as he'd had an infection and couldn't be kenneled with other dogs. Rather than put him down, a foster took him. Everyone I talked was very easy to deal with, very nice and very knowledgeable. They are a great place to adopt, volunteer or donate to!

    Pros

wonderful to deal with, hard-working staff

    Cons

    none for me

  • 31. They are everywhere

    by: mwhitt

You name the kind of animal and HSNT has had one or more of them at their shelter. What an amazing group who are always in the news for raids, persuing animal abuse leads, taking in every animal brought to them, and bringing many of them back from near death. And they can be found at every animal event, and have fantastic fundraisers.I'm proud of this group of people and appreciate when they help us out by taking animals that we can not.

    Pros

    Unbelieveably hard working people

    Cons

    alot of older buildings

  • 32. They took excellent care of Lucky

    by: danaseals

We found a dog when he was a tiny little guy and we got him healthy so we could find a home for him (he was too big for inside the house and the yard was too small for him too... just not fair to the little tyke). We tried for 9 months to find him a home, and finally took him to HSNT. The staff was sweet and wonderful and took him in. It was heartbreaking to have to do this, but we felt great about it because we knew he was in excellent hands. Thank you HSNT.

    Pros

    They are wonderful, amazing people

    Cons

Their mission is to provide for the well-being of animals who are injured, neglected, mistreated or otherwise in need; to relieve suffering and prevent cruelty to animals. In accordance to their mission, we promote kindness, justice and mercy to every living creature entering their door. Their shelter is dedicated to providing a place of protection for animals in need and none are turned away. \r\n

    Pros

very kind people, very concerned for the well being of all animals, no kill shelter, and no animal is turned away

    Cons

    none

  • 38. Doing fantastic things with little resources

    by: cherih50

These folks work very hard and do a great job saving needy animals. They cover a large geographical area and have a very small budget and inadequate facility. But they never turn away from an animal in need.

    Pros

    Very caring and responsive

    Cons

    none

  • 39. Special People: Special Animals

    by: ztT4MP31679604

The staff care enough about the animals that they will not allow adoptions by folks who they deem unfit to take/take care of an animal. I respect this. they do not simply rush animals out the door. They often keep animals longer than 'usual' to find them the 'right home'.\r\nI have gotten both my cats there after being carefully questioned and screened. I wish I could have several more but that would require trading my husband for cats. He sort of frowns on that....

    Pros

Wonderful staff who make pet adoption a great experience

    Cons

location. Very old facility in a bad neighborhood.

  • 40. A great place to adopt!

    Cons

The shelter is not in a very good area.

  • 41. Sounds Likes A Good Place For Animals In Need

    by: Switch

It's great to have a nice shelter for animals who need a safe place to stay where they will be properly cared for untill they can find a permanent home. We need such a place where I live, the animals in my community do not get a fair chance. I feel so bad for them and wish I could do more.

    Pros

    Seems like a nice place

    Cons

    No Complaints

  • 42. Great Place to Adopt

    by: itsmetitania

I adopted my greyhound, Azwokee here. Everyone I spoke with was more than helpful and very caring. The residents were all well taken care of and clean. I expected to see mangy looking animals, but each one of the residents seemed happy and healthy. When I had a problem getting my shy Azwokee out of the kennel so I could meet with him, a volunteer came to my aid. The vet associated with the shelter had a clean area and did a wonderful job on Azwokee's surgery and stiches. I'm very pleased with this shelter and have recommended it to a few people I know who were interested in adoption.

    Pros

    Great people! Great residents!

    Cons

    Needs update on building

  • 43. Support this Shelter

    by: princessbubba

I adopted my most recent addition to my family here two months ago. I still can't understand how he ended up at a shelter. He makes me smile every day and he has brought out the "puppy" in my other two sweet dogs, although he himself is estimated to be 4-6 years old. There are so many wonderful creatures who need and deserve a great forever home. Thank God there are places like HSNT that give these animals a chance. This place is as clean as can be and everyone who works there is so kind and wants the best for these animals. THANK YOU HSNT FOR ALL YOU DO!!!

    Pros

Many wonderful dogs to choose from

    Cons

MANY wonderful dogs to choose from

  • 44. They care

    by: tinbush

These guys have been open for 100yrs. They do the dirty work of irresponsible and careless humans. This staff of people handle everything from dropped off pets, lost and found, and cruelty cases..all non-profit. These people worked endlessly to find ways to adopt pets and educate people. All pets are spayed/neutered before they can go home. Pets are like your children. They need care and belonging not something replaced when the people they come to trust and depend on decide they have to move, have a baby, or whatever. We need more responsible laws and funding for our cities and rural counties at the state and federal level to make mandatory spay/neuter for any pets. Pet ownership should be a privelage not a whim.

    Pros

They do the best they can and care about what they are doing

    Cons

Without pet responsibility it is a never ending battle to help.

    by: DMANONO

MY HUSBAND AND I ADOPTED A BLACK AND WHITE SHORT HAIRED MUTT FROM THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF FORT WORTH. WE NAMED HIM JAX. HE IS A BUNDLE OF ENERGY AND VOICES HIS OPINION TO ANYONE WHO WILL HEAR IT. BECAUSE OF THE WONDERFUL PEOPLE WHO WORK AT THIS FACILITY, MY JAX HAS A HOME FOREVER. HE IS LIKE A SON TO US. YOU SEE, MY HUSBAND AND I DISCOVERED THAT I COULDN'T HAVE ANY BIOLOGICAL CILDREN DUE TO A HEREDITARY REPRODUCTIVE DISORDER. WITH A BROKEN HEART MY HUSBAND LITERALY DRUG ME TO THE HUMANE SOCIETY. HE SAID THAT WE WERE GOING TO "OPT TO ADOPT" (A BUMPER STICKER HE SAW). I WENT ALONG WITH SOME RESERVATIONS. I GREW UP ON A FARM AND THE DOGS WERE THERE FOR WORKING. WE LIVE IN AN APARTMENT AND I WAS TRYING TO IMAGINE A BORDER COLLIE OR GERMAN SHEPERD IN IT. I WAS IN FOR A SURPRISE. WE LOOKED AND LOOKED, BUT AS CUTE AS THE PUPPIES AND OTHERS WERE, I GUESS MY HEART JUST WASN'T IN IT. MY HUSBAND TRIED TO GET ME INTERESTED IN A MALTESE AND A LHASA. BUT IN THE VERY LAST SPOT, AT THE END OF THE ROOM, THERE WAS MY JAX. IT WAS LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT. WE HAVE BEEN INSEPERABLE EVER SINCE. IT BRINGS ME GREAT JOY TO WRITE SOMETHING POSITIVE FOR THE PEOPLE WITH THE LOVING HANDS THAT BROUGHT MY "SON" INTO OUR LIVES. FOR THAT WE WILL FOREVER BE GREATFUL.

  • 46. HSNT

    by: louguyton

HSNT has been the be all/end all for North Texas for many years. It is time they put the onus of animal issues back on the cities that serve them. If they can do that, they can focus on becoming the adoption center they should become.

    Pros

They REALLY do care about the animas

    Cons

They won't limit the animals they admit from cities outside jurisdiction

They do so much for so many animals. Never turning anyone down. Unfortuneatly it takes a toll on the ageing building. They are a non-profit organization relying strictly on donations. Any thing any one brings them is greatly appreciated. An update would be so great for the HSNT, but would be even more beneficial to the animals.

What a wonderful thing to be able to say that no animal is turned away! I wish this movement would be from east to west, north to south for there are so many, millions each year, that so need our help. Sometimes it is so frustrating and heart breaking to just think of these animals hearing that they do not have a chance and will be turned away which means killed.

  • 53. A new world for a former animal control professional

    by: skgrambort

I have worked in professional municipal animal control for over 20 years, and found myself burned out, and needing an escape. I quit, went back, quit again and when I thought the end of my career in animal welfare was at hand, found myself at HSNT, a small humane agency with, like most non-profits, a myriad of issues. I have been having fun again with needy critters, and needy people. \r\n\r\nWhile no agency does everything "right," perhaps the most important thing that HSNT does right is CARE about every single individual animal and person that comes to the door. We do care. Even with very limited resources, we do everything we can to never say "there's nothing we can do." \r\n\r\nFor that reason, and that one alone, I will stand by HSNT even when there is barely enough funds to cover payroll, or pay for radiographs on a broken horse, or heartworm treatment on a dachsund, or more antibiotics for the creatures in our rehab rooms, or for a free spay or neuter for a pit bull owner, or feral cat caregiver. To my knowledge, there is not another agency in North Texas who ALWAYS says "yes, we can help." \r\n\r\nFor this reason, HSNT needs to keep on, keeping on. Shih-Tzus, monkeys, horses, huskies, bears, big cats and bulls all need the services that this generous organization finds ways to provide for. There is no other organization locally to fill the gap that would be left if HSNT were to evaporate into the world of "used to be." I am proud to work there, and proud of the difference we make every day. \r\n\r\nSandy Grambort

    by: shellydog

This shelter was very helpful. They have an incredible website and their staff really cares about the welfare of these animals. I have been to several shelters that don't even say hi when you walk in the front door, this shelter is different. \r\n\r\nThey put money in the animals they feel are adoptable and I like knowing I am adopting a healthy pet. \r\n\r\nOther shelters don't spend any money on animals until adopted because of the high rate of euthanizia.\r\n\r\nI am glad to gaurdian angel many dogs from HSNT because I can't adopt them all. \r\n\r\nI would definately adopt from HSNT again. Glad they kept our "shelly" there for 4 months until we adopted her. She is a GREAT dog! We love her so much and are so proud of all the things she has learned in the two years we've had her.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

  • 60. Never turns animals away

    by: bdickerson

HSNT accepts animals from the North Texas area, not just in Tarrant County. While standing in their lobby, a lady came in with a dog that she no longer wanted. She had tried; none of her local shelters nor animal control agencies would accept him. She was told to bring her dog to HSNT, and ended her statement with, "If you don't take him, I am going to take him back home and shoot him!" I am thankful for HSNT's open door policy. Everyone, lets helped with their chances of winning this make over.

    by: kingdexter

I adopted my first dog from this shelter over 30 years ago. I moved away from Texas for over 25 years. Upon visiting the shelter last year, to have a feral cat neutered for the low, low price of $15, I was surprised at how little the facility had changed. And appalled. Caring hearts and quality staff make-up this place, but the facility is desperate for expansion. They deserve it!

    Pros

    Great caring people

    Cons

    NOT ENOUGH RESOURCES, OUTDATED FACILITY

  • 64. Working with so little

    by: lilfemtomboy

This shelter runs with very little help from the community. People from all over North Texas bring their animals in here without giving anything to the shelter. They do a good job working with so little.

    Pros

    Great

    Cons

    Not enough funds

  • 67. Rumpelstiltskin staff

    by: contessa

From the old fairy tale of the gnome named Rumpelstiltskin who spun worthless straw into gold for the princess - this staff does just that day after day. They care for the burgeoning animal population in this north Texas area like no one else - and truly need the makeover.

    Pros

Knowledgeable, sincere and truly dedicated staff making the most of meager resources

    Cons

Inadequate space to work, aging facilities, etc.

    by: sdunn71

When I stumbled across this contest, I thought to myself, "WOW" we can win this for our local humane society. I never knew this web-site existed. I think this is a wonderful place for people who adore animals to get together and just be ourselves. I know that some think I'm nutty cause I love my doggies so much but being in a place like this is truely a blessing. So, I'm doing everything I possibly can on here to help them win a new home for the animals I care so much about!!!\nLets win this yall!

  • 70. I drove 20 miles to go this shelter

    by: rcunning

I have been on pet finder for 3 months now. All shelters, organizations, are high priced and you may or may not have a healthy pet. \r\n\r\nAt one shelter I took off work for two hours to "stand in line to sign in and to be first" for the little dog I wanted. I followed procedures to a T. Come to find out someone else got the dog because they showed up at 5 in the morning-they did'nt sign in. Yeah right!!\r\n\r\n I was devasted. This action contradicted every policy on their website and in there brochures.\r\n\r\nIt has worked out great for me however- I know I have a heartworm negative dog that is up to date on shots and spayed for less money.\r\n\r\nI appreciate every shelter and their workers. Especially those with integrity and character.

    Pros

Dogs are healthy-staff is friendly- I took my dog there to see if he would like the new dog I wanted to adopt

    Cons

I got lost trying to find the shelter

  • 72. The most caring shelter in the USA

    by: melbafern

They are caring and knowledgeable and do great good under very hard circomstances. The roof leaks, there are no air conditioning in parts. The cleaning power hoses need replaced ect, ect.Despite hardships they act as protectors of abused amimals and lovingly care for the ones they house and adopt.

    Pros

They are very caring and knowledgable .

    Cons

They are a very old shelter .They need renovation bad.

  • 73. Helping hands

    by: puggy

The shelter and staff work very hard. With over 25,000 animals a year, it is hard to keep up, and often very sad. A make over for this shelter would not only help the animal, It would help the people who work and volunteer here. Save as many as you can.

    Pros

    They do all they can.

    Cons

They are not yet a no kill shelter

  • 74. They deserve it!!!I saw s

    by: dezray83

I worked for the Humane Society of North Texas for a few months during the summer and it was an amazing experience. The staff there is great and extremely loving and caring when it comes to all the animals. I saw so many animals come through the front door that were lost or not wanted anymore. Its heartbreaking, but most of them will find loving homes quick. If it wasn't for me working there, I would have never brought my baby girl Zelda home!! She was this itty bitty 1 week old pup and now she is a 3 month old big girl and as happy as can be!! Basically, this facility needs this money... They work so hard day in and day out... You guys deserve this!!!

    Pros

    So many loving animals....

    Cons

In much need of a makeover!!!

  • 75. What a great society!

    by: CrazyASH0115

I just wanna say that The Humane Society of North Texas is a great place. The way they treat their pets is just amazing. And the workers there work extremely hard at what they do and truly do love the animals. I couldn't think of a better place to volunteer!

    Pros

    A great place to volunteer!

    Cons

As with any shelter it does get depressing!

  • 76. a happy tail

    by: scootergirl

"I would be happy to be out of a job, to be unemployed. Life would be so nice if there was no longer a need for animal shelters. But truth is, that may never happen. Until we [Texans] can be responsible pet owners by spaying and neutering, I may be working here forever."

    Pros

    sincere staff

    Cons

    a high intake of animals

  • 77. HSNT

    by: melincollee

I adopted two cats there - Adeline (on my profile) and a boy named Jean. The process was easy and affordable! Both cats were already fixed, and had vaccinations prior to adoption. HSNT does so much for animals in North Texas and they're so underrated in the community. They do whatever they can to get animals adopted, including lowering adoption fees for long-term sheltered animals and offering two-for-one deals when animals would do best adopted together. The staff there is incredibly dedicated. If anyone in North Texas is looking to adopt an animal, make this your first stop!

    Pros

Friendly & caring staff, open 7 days a week, mobile adoptions, awesome cat room

    Cons

Not enough funding or room to do everything they'd like

  • 78. HSNT goes the extra mile

    by: AnnS

When I adopted my dog from HSNT they were helpful but also diligent with their interview process - making sure I would be a good pet owner. I have often come across stray dogs that I have taken to the facility and one night I called after hours and someone came and met me there as I was unable to keep the dog at my home. They have always been friendly and cheerful although their work must be tiring and at times discouraging. They do a lot with so little. Jaime Lee Curtis adopted a dog from this facility when she was in the area. I believe she was here for a radio show interview.

    Pros

    Great staff

    Cons

    They need an updated facility

  • 79. Great Atmosphere

    by: vmagal1

I've always adopted animals from this shelter. They have a wonderful website and always have updated pictures of their available animals. The cats have ample space to live and some even have large cages that resemble a living room! One con is that the employees aren't the most friendliest of people. They aren't exactly rude, just not very warm. I always just think that they have to be tough because they see a lot of sad things there. Also, this shelter is unfortunately not a no-kill shelter.

    Pros

Clean and a nice atmosphere to find a pet

    Cons

Employees can be a little cold and it is a kill shelter

  • 80. WORKING HARD

    by: Mhudson87

After adopting a dog from HSNT i had to wait over the weekend for her to be picked up after spay sugery. She ended up dying after a bad reaction to the anestesia. When i went up there after receiving a call the vet tech spoke directly with me and was very sympathetic. The vet tech informed me of a man that had been working with a dog in the holding area that he was going to recomend to me. The next day the man called me and we worked out a time so i could come by after work and closing hours to visit with the dog. The gentlemen stayed after hours when he did not have to. I didn't end up adopting the dog but i did adopt another one a few weeks later. This shelter really needs some extra help considering the amount of animals they take in and the limited space they have to work with. They staff were always really nice and passionate about their work. My baby i adopted is doing great in her new home and could not be the sweetest thing. Please help me in support of this shelter!

    Pros

The HSNT does a wonderful job of helping individuals out who are interested in adopting a dog or cat or any other animal that they might house. They really do a wonderful job with the limited resources they have.

    Cons

Everything is pretty much done through donations and contributions which can be a burden when in need. The HSNT staff work well with limited resources.

  • 81. HSNT

    by: stewartpa

I got my miniature schnauzer at the HSNT Southwest Adoption Center in March. The staff there is dedicated and very caring about both the animals and the people adopting them. When I first saw my Molly, she was a shaggy mess, but by the time I was ready to take her home after a thorough interview, she was gorgeous.\r\n\r\nFor different reasons, several people who came in the day I was there had to be turned away, but each time they were treated with respect.\r\n\r\nThe unfortunate thing is that the SWAC is small and the spaces were completely filled. One little fellow was even camping out in the break room. But from interacting with them, you could tell that they'd have more animals there is they could.

    Pros

    caring staff

    Cons

    too little space

  • 82. Truly helpful and necessary to the community

    by: WillowHannigan

There is no other place that takes animals in and at least tries to adopt them with no catches. They do their own testing and spaying or nuetering, they don't ask you to do it first before releasing you animal to them. If you have just found the animal or it found you, they will take it. They may ask for a donation, but it is only if you can afford to. They offer low cost alterations for your animal, if you meet certain guidelines, so that you may have you pet spayed or nuetered AND they look out for the animals in their care by requiring all visitors to sanitize their hands before touching the animals you might want to adopt. They give you plenty of alone time with it to bond and see if it is the "right" pet for you. The staff is friendly and helpful. The make sure that the animals are cared for while in their care. Even the department that deals with lost animals is sympathetic to the owners loss and will help all they can to find out if they have your pet.\r\nThey need supplies, donations and volunteers, but that doesn't stop the qualified staff from doing the best job they can with the supplies they have on hand. Thumbs up HSNT.

    Pros

Helpful staff, easy adoptions and complete adoptions

    Cons

needs more space and lots of volunteer help

  • 83. Dedicated

    by: doglover0302

I have been volunteering for HSNT for about 6 months now, and I must say I'm impressed with how efficiently the 'system' is run. The staff do their job for the animals, and it shows how much they love them all. They animals are kept very clean, and their cages are never dirty. \r\nHowever, this facility needs some work. There are very few areas we can take the dogs to walk/play/be loved. If I were wealthy, I'd donate some acreage, have a new facility built...\r\nMy hat's off to those who run the place, though. You work well with so little, and it's amazing.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Pros

The location is central to the Tarrant County area.

    Cons

The shelter really needs a make over!

  • 89. Help for HSNT

    by: martha

The Humane Society of North Texas is an open door shelter that turns away no animal needing their help. The staff is extremely caring and knowledgeable. They could benefit so much from an updated shelter which would allow them to focus all their attention on the animals.

    Pros

    Open door shelter

    Cons

    Desperately needs updated facility

  • 90. They need more space but do a great job with what they have

    by: tanner12

I adopted two dogs from the shelter last March. I received excellant assistance and personal care when choosing and picking up my dogs. These are the greatest dogs! I am so glad I got them from the shelter. I know they are glad I got them too! I hope the HSNT shelter can win the make over, they really need more space to give the animals a longer chance at finding a permanent home. They take in a lot of animals at this shelter and my dealings with the staff proved them all to be very caring towards the animals and it also showed me how hard it is for them when they can't find homes for them all. I could never face that on a daily basis. SO they are stronge people with hearts of gold.

    Pros

They will go the mile for you!

    Cons

Understaffed at times and they need some more volunteers to help with everything

  • 91. Humane Society of N. Texas- bless you!

    by: kittymommie

I am so glad they are here. I can't keep every stray that wanders into my yard- but I feel safe taking them to the Humane Society.

    Pros

    they work VERY hard

    Cons

there is only so much you can do without money

  • 92. working with so little

    by: lillybutt

This shelter needs to be expanded to benifit the animals. They do so much with so little at this shelter. Recently they had 2 bears that they took care of until they could fine them a place. One of the bears got sick and had to be put down. There was so much effort to try and save these bears, and it took so long, that the money just added up for their care. I will say that no animal has been turned away. The staff at this shelter really care and want to help all animals. I wish we had the where withall to save all the animals that pass thru their doors. Helping is there greatest joy.

    Pros

Hsnt takes on so much with so little. They never turn an animal away, this does not always make for a happy ending . This shelter does think outside the box all the time. this is really the only way to make a difference.

    Cons

HSNT is over 100 years old deals with over 20,000 pets a year. It is way to small for the amount of animals they prossess a year.
