    by: RLSadler

We have a dog that has been missing since 5/23/08. When I went to work after he had been missing all weekend and we had been looking for him. Several of my co-workers told me to call the Human Society of North Central AR and report him missing. Now I wasn't expecting much, but boy was I ever wrong. Not only did they take a discription of my pet they gave me a list of other numbers to call and have him listed there also. It was such a great help knowing that somebody does care. I know that they still do because tonight I got home late from work and found a message from the Humane Society, stating that they think they may have found my dog. I won't know until morning but just to know somebody is watchin that list makes me feel so much better. My husband and I had already decided if our baby doesn't come home, that when we go to find another baby for our home we will start there first. Thank To The Entire Crew For All YOU Do For Our Lost Loved Ones!!!\r\nRoberta Sadler

  • 6. North Arkansas Humane Society

    by: ztT4MP79379844

I have personally observed the trapping methods of this facility and it was very evident that they either did not know what they were doing or they totally disregarded the welfare of the cats being trapped. The traps were left in the open all night leaving any animal trapped in the cage in the rain with no shelter.

    Pros

    many dogs available

    Cons

cats are left in cages for months

  • 7. finding a pet thats right for the family

    by: ztT4MP96334193

about three years ago i adopted a dog from the humane society the staff there really helped me to decide what dog was right for my family they allowed us to visit with the dog for several hours before making our decision the facility was very clean and a loving environment if i decide to get another pet this is where i would go to adopt they really know there stuff there

    Pros

the staff at the facility really do try to match the family to the right dog or cat they are very kind and loving to the animals

    Cons

i didnt really find anything wrong except that they could use some more space

  • 8. Need a Bigger Shelter!!

    by: blkcat78

The Shelter is a great place to adopt a animal, although they do need a bigger space for all of the animals that they have and to be a no-kill shelter would be even better. The staff is very friendly, and you can tell they love all of the animals and that they are well cared for.\r\nI adopted a kitten from there and she is doing great, only she will only drink out of the sink and not the water bowl ha ha! Everyone needs to consider going there when they get their next pet, they are all good animals cared for by loving people and they deserve homes just as much as purebreed animals at a mill. My only problem when I go in or visit the website is I want to take all of them home!

    Pros

spaying/nuetering , training the dogs , showing all of them lots of love

    Cons

too small of a space, isn't a no-kill shelter , not enough advertising

  • 9. my lost fur kids

    by: patruski

I've used the shelter to take animals I found but could not keep. They were helpful and glad to be of service with made me feel much better.\n\nMy girlfriend in the last month got a dog from there. It was an older dog but it was just right for her. She and he are very happy now. The were so helpful to her and set up vet appointments etc to help her out.\n\nI love to go shopping at their thrift story. It is clean and it helps the animals.

    Pros

    Hard working and caring

    Cons

    Needs to be bigger

  • 10. Wonderful Staff

    by: monkeycat

What a wonderful resource for Mountain Home. The fabulous volunteer staff are a testament to the volunteer spirit in Mountain Home. They spend hours working with these animals. This is a great place to get a pet; you can be pretty sure that it will be healthy and well socialized. The only problem is that the shelter is usually full to the gills. It truly deserves all the help and funding that it can get.

    Pros

    Dedicated staff

    Cons

    Too small

  • 11. Clean and Nice Animal Shelter

    by: slamissy

Have visited facility several times and it looks like a top notch place. Would adopt animals from there if I didn't already have 4 dogs and 2 cats. I have volunteered at other animal shelters in another state and this is much cleaner. Like the idea they have obedience training as well.

    Pros

    Clean facility

    Cons

    no cons

  • 12. A Ray of Hope for Our Community

    by: ztT4MP58606302

This area has a tremendous need for this excellent animal shelter. A great number of people living here do not want to take the time or spend the money to spay/neuter their animals. When a litter is born they take the pups to a remote location and dump them. They also do this with adult dogs that they no longer want to care for. The situation is heartbreaking. This shelter has a monumental task caring for these wonderful, helpless animals and their spay/neuter program is the only hope this community has to prevent more and more tragic situations. They are the heros of this area.

    Pros

The facility is excellent. It is clean and staffed by a caring, knowledgeable staff.

    Cons

    NONE

  • 13. Nice Place

  • 14. wonderful shelter

    by: jmgnini

We've adopted several pets from this shelter. All of the pets have been healthy and well trained. I always recommend this shelter to my friends.

    Pros

    very clean, healthy animals

    Cons

    need to expand

  • 15. Excellent Shelter

    by: naomich

They take the most excellent care of the animals, and though do occasionally have to euthanize unadoptable animals, they are upset about it for long periods of time. They show real heart and professionalism at all times, and the animals smile at you as you go by...

    Pros

The employees are dedicated and knowledgeable animal lovers

    Cons

The board that runs the shelter isn't always hands-on, so they don't always know the most practical solutions that work inside the shelter...

  • 16. Upon visiting this center

  • 18. spay neuter program

    by: Aebeth

The spay neuter program this facility has is wonderful. Although I could not afford to have my pet fixed at one point in life, this program allowed me to be a responsible pet owner and they never made me feel belittled because of my need for help. They put the pets first and are wonderful people.

    Pros

    clean environment

    Cons

    needs more room to expand

  • 19. Impressive Service, Good Heart

    by: bradleysmomma

We went to the Humane Society of NCA looking for a tabby like the one we had loved for years. The staff were great to encourage us to take our time and really get to know each of the cats we thought we might like. They had a nice little playroom where we got to take the cats, one at a time, to try to get comfortable with them. It was a good thing, too, because the cute little tabby was not a good match for our family! Just as we were giving up on finding a kitten, a little black paw reached out of one of the cages and captured my heart.\r\n\r\nIt was Labor Day weekend and we were able to complete the paperwork but they had to wait until the following Tuesday to take him to the vet for his neuter. They were great about letting us spend hours just playing with Bradley even after the paperwork was done. They let us come back again over the weekend as much as we wanted so that we could bond with him. We really appreciate their friendliness and their level of genuine concern for the animals' well being. Before they let us adopt, we had to tell them that he would be in indoor only cat and that he would be alone for only a few hours at a time. (We are generally home every few hours anyway.) I really appreciate that they didn't want to adopt him out to a home where he wouldn't have the very best care.\r\n\r\nThey have a little thrift shop to help fund their operations, and we take all of our donations to them. After all, they really have a heart for the animals and we appreciate the care they gave Bradley until we adopted him. They really looked after his health and his well being.

    Pros

Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Really care about the animals and their well-being.

    Cons

    Underfunded

  • 22. Lets save our animals!!

    by: mariajuber

The Humane Society of North Central Arkansas is a great facility. The animals are well taken care of and get the best attention. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They work very hard to help you find a pet that will fit into your family. The facility is very clean and they are very good at keeping the odor down. I think the prices coudl be a little lower so that more families that are wanting to get a pet could be able to. Our community consists of a lot of low income families, and alot woudl love to have a pet from the Humane Society but are unable to because of the prices. I have adopted animals from here and do not personaly have a problem with the price, because it covers alot of things (shots, spay/nueter, bathing, etc..) but I have heard alot of complaints about the prices. Maybe they could lower the price a great deal before euthenizing the animals. The most important thing is the animals well being. If a pet can find a home and be taken care and loved, than maybe the cost can be dropped to very little or no fee.

    Pros

Friendly and helpful staff, clean enviroment,

    Cons

    Prices are a little high

  • 23. job enjoyment

    by: moretti

I have been employed at this job almost 2 years now and I have never had a job that makes me look forward to going to work every day. I have made better money, but no amount of money makes up for the way the animals show their love and affection to the volunteers and staff who care for them. When I'm having a bad day , the animals can always make me feel better just by giving a hug or kiss.

    Pros

    professionalism

    Cons

    needing bigger shelter

  • 24. Great place!

    by: RZieleniuk

While I have never adopted a pet from this shelter (we usually take in strays), I have been in to look at the animals. They were all very clean and looked comfortable. \r\nI live very close to the HS and so many animals are "dumped" and they are always willing to take the animals we bring to them.

    Pros

friendly staff, vouchers given to lower income families to lower prices of spaying/neutering fees and so much more

    Cons

It would be nice to be able to accomodate more animals.

  • 25. A great place!

    by: clsteedman

This shelter has great people behind it! It is one of the only shelters anywhere that spends time obedience training the dogs! It really improves the chances that dogs having of being adopted and keeping their forever home. They also put a lot of effort into keeping the cats happy! This shelter goes above and beyond any other I have been exposed too.

    Pros

The fact that this shelter does obedience training is incredible!

    Cons

    None!

  • 26. A haven for animals

  • 27. What an amazing place for animals

    by: ckeirn

I could have taken home a number of the animals at this shelter. They are all so well taken care of and they are so happy, it's easy to imagine any of them at home with you. Clean pads and towels and shelter are the norm. The volunteers here are dedicated and provide so much. I can't tell you how proud I am that this shelter is in my hometown! Way to go!

    Pros

Very clean with happy animals. Obedience training for animals before they are adopted out. 90% adoption rate.

    Cons

Still euthanize only a few animals. Will be a perfect shelter when they go "NO KILL" all the way.

  • 28. Great place to adopt a pet.

This shelter is a great place to adopt a pet. The staff is extremely dedicated and they are backed by a very strong group of volunteers. The animals receive top notch care and individual training. The facility is always clean and a pleasure to visit.

    Pros

Healthy good looking animals, low adoption fees, great people.

    Cons
