    by: mlkeva

This place is amazing. We work with this shelter for volunteer projects as well as spay/neuter learning. Everyone really cares and they have amazing animals, just way too many and must euthanize a lot of them. I got my cat here :-)

    Pros

    Wonderful staff!

    Cons

    needs a makeover

  • 4. Help the caring people at Jefferson Co.

    by: SelenaHannah

This shelter has been working with UT vet students to let us get some spay/neuter practice in and help the shelter control the animal population, which obviously is very important to both sides! The staff at Jefferson Co. are helpful, nice people and you can really tell they care about all the animals as soon as you walk in the door. They are hard workers and really make a difference in the lives of animals in their own county as well as surrounding counties.

    Pros

Helpful, attentive, caring staff, clean facility

    Cons

Shelter needs a little work, give it a makeover!

I used to volunteer at this shelter (back when I had free time on my hands) by walking, bathing, and playing with the dogs and puppies. I also helped clean out the cages and kennels. The shelter is run down and could use updates or just a completely new building. It's hard to keep it clean because of the people who track in and all the animals that come in filthy. They try to bathe them but sometimes there are just too many animals and not enough people. Always have a wide variety of cats and dogs, although unfortunately many have to be put down because of overcrowding or sickness.

    Pros

Serving the area as best they can

    Cons

    Could be cleaner
