    by: Carnataurus

It's the best shelter I've ever been honored enough to volunteer to be a part of. The facility is growing and the staff knows and cares about all the animals.\r\nThey're the best!

    Cons

  • 5. A worthy facility

    by: AmyG66

This place needs to be twice as large for the amount of need that there is. The staff and volunteers do an amazing job making it the best possible place for the animals.

    Pros

    Cons

    too small for the demand

  • 6. HSHC A great animal shelter they care.

    by: JuzmeDarlene

HSHC has a great shelter, they take in so many homeless animals, for what ever reason. The staff and volunteers are extremely friendly, caring and loving people. They all give 100 % of their time to care for all the animals and do the best with what they have. The facility need a makeover. They have a great cat area, but they do need do have more for the dogs. They care for each and ever animal that enters the facility, and they make sure that each animal that is adopted goes to great homes. They are the best !!

    Pros

Clean, caring & loving staff & volunteers

    Cons

Need a make over & more foster homes

  • 7. Kudos to Staff & Volunteers

    by: ztT4MP29363239_DEAD_

Staff & volunteers do a great job with what they have to work with; that is, antiquated facility over 60 yrs. old. Due to their efforts, many more adoptions are realized than if less effort were made. Really needs a makeover to be able to accommodate the homeless animals in a better environment.

    Pros

    Dedicated staff & volunteers

    Cons

    Antiquated facilities

  • 8. HSHC - all about the animals

    by: JLacarriere

HSHC is working hard...from Rebel's Dog Park to its ever expanding volunteer program, HSHC is doing everything it can to help the homeless and needy animals in Harford County.\r\n\r\nWe adopted 3 of our 5 animals from there - Agatha and Paddy, adorable calico DSH kitties, and Holly the Rottie. \r\n\r\nHSHC also offers training programs for dogs (and owners!) as well as behavioral consultations. In fact, we met our dog trainer through the shelter and are always glad to have a helping hand and an open ear nearby!\r\n\r\nOur other 2 animals were adopted from shelters, too, but before we moved to Harford County. NEVER BUY ANIMALS - ADOPT! So many need a good home.

    Pros

    no breed bans!

    Cons

has gone through many management changes

  • 9. Where we found our Buck!

    by: masonmitchellmom

My family and I adopted Buck (an almost 2yo Lab/Chow mix) in early December. The facility was overcrowded at the time so there were a lot of dogs to choose from. That made it difficult. But we finally decided that Buck belonged with our family. The staff answered all of our questions and handled our paperwork effeciently. While they worked on the paperwork we took Buck out for another walk. There were 2 gated in areas - 1 for smaller pets and 1 for the larger pets. When the paperwork was done the staff let us pick 2 new dog toys from a box for Buck to take home with him.\r\n\r\nI feel as if they had been taking care of Buck until we could find and realize that he belonged with our family. We are so grateful that they took such good care of him. He is a very happy puppy.

    Pros

Loving and friendly staff and volunteers, indoor/outdoor runs

    Cons

    Overcrowded at times

  • 10. Great staff-shelter in need of updating

    by: pugpuppy

My famliy apoted a Lab mix from this shelter several years ago after seeing her at an adopt a pet day. We found the shelter staff very friendly and knowledgable. We have visted the shelter several times since the adoption of our lab and have found the shelter to be in need of some updating.

    Pros

    Very Friendly caring Staff

    Cons

    Needs updating

  • 11. HSHC is truly a blessing!

    by: lmcbw1969

I recently visited this facility and within a week my daughter and I were signing on to be volunteers. Although the facilities themselves are extremely outdated and in dire need of a makeover, the staff and the care they provide are unmatched. The animals are well loved and cared for, their living arrangements are cleaned and well kept and the staff is very helpful and caring. They seem to have a pretty good turnover of animals. We are fortunate enough to be able to donate some of our time to loving and nurturing these animals, preparing them for their permanent home. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a new pet to visit the Humane Society of Harford County.

    Pros

    Friendly, knowledgeable, caring

    Cons

    Needs maintenance/makeover!

  • 12. HSHC gives all animals a chance

    by: Autmn

I love how HSHC doesn't discriminate on breeds. I adopted my Pitbull in August, and haven't had any problems with her. She is the best pet anyone could ever ask for. There are so many other Pitbulls there that need adopted, and people just need to get the steryotype out of their heads. These truely are great animals.

    Pros

The staff does their best to take care of all the animals

    Cons

    It is pretty crowded

  • 13. HSHC IS THE BEST!!!

    by: ztT4MP45881111

HSHC NEEDS A MAKEOVER BUT NO MATTER WHAT, THE ANIMALS COME FIRST! THE STAFF WORKS SO HARD TO MAKE THE ANIMAL'S LIVES AS GOOD AS IT CAN BE BEFORE THEY GET A "FOREVER HOME" HSHC IS GOING PLACES!

    Pros

OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THE PEOPLE REALLY CARE ABOUT THE ANIMALS!

    Cons

THE ONLY CON IS THAT THE SHELTER NEEDS A MAKEOVER

  • 14. HSHC is awesome

    by: TOMZKIA6

I've been visiting HSHC for years, and when my fiance started working there I began to see how very hard the staff works, and how much they truly care and devote their lives to these animals. They do everything they can to work with what they have, just think of how much they acheive with a new facility and a good budget. Keep up the good work HSHC!

    Pros

    everything

    Cons

    needs more money/bigger budget/new facility

  • 15. HCHC is great!!
