I wish this place was not a kill shelter...they do however have the cutest companions looking for a loving home.

  • 3. Excellent Shelter

    by: musclecarman

I went to this place the first time when I was 10 years old. My Dad took me there and we adopted two beagles, as my Dad's dog Brandy (a boy lol) had passed away.\r\n\r\nThe beagles were brother and sister and were very good dogs! The people (from what I remember as I am now 20) were pretty thorough in the questions they asked. They allowed us to visit with the dogs right at the shelter.\r\n\r\nWe had to fill out an application and my Dad and I went back 3 days later and picked them up. I would go back there, but I now live in York PA and I do not think they adopt out of state.\r\n\r\nThe girl who helped us pick them out seemed very knowledgeable and was very kind to the dogs. She handled them very carefully.

Good Staff, Clean Facility, Great Adoption Program

I've worked there- heard all the excuses for giving up animals- seen them dumped but we take care of all of them.\r\nThe staff is wonderful, underpaid but all animal lovers. They do there best to avoid euthanasia when space has totally run out.\r\nGreat activities through out the year-all for the animals. They get no funding from state or federal sources and do a marvelous job with the resources they have.\r\nPlease support any of your local shelters.\r\nBe a part of the solution for finding homes for animals not part of the problem of breeding, fighting or treating your pet as disposable.

always looking for new ways to raise funds to care for the animals

never enough room for all the surrenders

  • 6. HSBC Rocks!

HSBC really cares about the animals and takes steps to ensure the new parents know how to raise their pets. They have done a great job of adopting animals so that they have not had to put any down for lack of space.

    by: jenn227

HSBC works consistently to make their presence known in the community. They are actively involved in animal related issues that impact the shelter and all of the people in the shelter community. They also work hard to help potential adopters make an informed decision about which pets to bring into their lives, and they provide support throughout the life of the pets. This is an organization that truly understands and respects the bond between people and animals.

Very involved in animal issues impacting the community

    In need of a makeover

  • 8. Nice Shelter

    by: towsonu2003

I adopted my first dog here. Staff was helpful and attentive. They provided great initial information once my new friend was ready to join me. \n\nThey need a makeover though - housing for cats is very poor, so-so for the dogs.

very helpful staff, large outdoors area

poor housing for dogs, very poor housing for cats, not a no-kill shelter
