  • 1. They do a lot with the little they have

    by: MKateKnight

I love that most of the cat rooms you can walk in and play with the cats because they are not in cages. I did have a bad experience with one person who worked there in which she was hassling me to fill out the adoption paper work. I just left because she was being rude and haven't seen her since. Everyone else there seems really great though.

    Pros

    Improvements made to the shelter

    Cons

    It's pretty small

  • 2. worthwhile facility

    by: Ridersmom

We contacted the Humane Society when we were looking for a second dog. While they were very professional, they did not have the type of dog we wanted. I was glad that they did not try to encourage us to take another animal. I have had clients volunteer at this facility, and always hear good things and the teens have a good experience.

    Pros

    have lots of cats

    Cons

    none

  • 3. Only been there a few times

    by: lis72077

I have only been to this Humane Society a few times and other than being a bit "messy" the animals seemed to be taken care of and the staff seemed pleasant. When I was there they had a vet right next door which seems convenient if an animal were sick...and it gives adopters a place to go with their new family member! I thought the in/outdoor kitty enclosure was neat too!

  • 4. Best Shelter around!!!

    by: LinzB

My parents and I have adopted multiple cats from the Humane Society of Greater Nashua. My parents adopted Daisy in 1983, Wells in 2002, and Bella in 2005. I adopted Ally and Misty in 2004. All of our adoptions have gone smoothly. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. The shelter was very clean, and the animals were all up to date on shots (we were provided proof of shots). Each pet had a write up explaining what types of households they would do best in (ex: no children, ok w/other pets, indoor only). I definitely recommend stopping by the shelter if you are considering adopting a pet.

    Pros

    Everything

    Cons

They are over loaded with animals

  • 5. Excellent Dog Care

    by: barbdives

It is not uncommon to go into the kennel areas and see as many people/staff in the kennels as dogs. Each of the staff makes it a priority to go in and socialize with the dogs daily. Special needs are addressed and everyone finds a home!

    Pros

The staff truly loves all the dogs there

    Cons

    Older facility, but well maintained

  • 6. 16 years ago

    by: sarahcsmile

I'm not sure if this is the same place, but I believe it is. I adopted a dog from here 16 years ago. She died 3 years ago, but I remember well when I first got her. The staff was very nice and did the best they could with minimal staff and limited facilities. I haven't been there in a while, but I can only assume they are just as good if not better. They obviously cared about their "tenants" at the time. The dog I adopted had been abused and needed patience. The staff worked very hard with her to help her become adoptable.

    Pros

    caring

    Cons

    understaffed at the time

  • 7. Animal Shelter

    by: cmgkitties

The last time I went in was to pick up my cat's ashes (I had her cremated). The staff was very nice and wished me the best for dealing with losing my best friend.

    Pros

    Friendly

    Cons

More animals need to be adopted

  • 8. Amazing Shelter, Great volunteers, very loving people

This place I found because I lost my beloved dog Rockie. He was born with a cleft lip/palette and was not expected to make it. I took him at 2 days old and bottle fed him, slept with him under my hair to keep him warm and he made it. At 18 months old I was walking him, on a leash, as I walked by one house a black dog came out of the yard and attacked Rockie, he was grabbed by the collar and the dog just kept twisting, because Rockie had breathing problems to begin with, he quickly lost the battle and was choked to death. All the while I was trying to break it up and release the collar, which was too tight and would not release. The owner of the dog stood on his porch and watched. I had to carry more poor baby home, dead in my arms. I was devastated. I had to find a way to keep him with me, so I found someone who did cremations, it was The Humane Society for Greater Nashua . I took him there and they walked me through the process, held my hand, hugged me and cried with me. When my 17 year old dog died a year later I knew right where to go. Since then I brig supplies whenever my budget allows, they deserve this and so much more. When I get a car, I intend to volunteer there. This place and it's staff are amazing.

    Pros

These people really care about the animals and the people who come in for any reason

    Cons

    none
