I took my Callie in when she was about 4 weeks old. She had a cold and conjunctivitis. Dr. Nichols told me that there was nothing he could do and that she would most likely die within the next couple of days. He refused to do anything else. I persisted and he gave me an ointment for her eye that left her scarred and blind.\n\nI ended up taking her to the other vet in town and she saved Callies life and one of her eyes.

    Pros

    cheap

    Cons

    always overbooked, small office

Dr. Nichols and his staff have cared for my dogs for over 20 years. He helped save our Lily when she was a sick puppy and he helped us allow our Great Pyrenees live out the remainder of her life with dignity.\r\n\r\nDr. Nichols is very knowledgable and his practice includes large and small animals.\r\n\r\nOffice service are reasonably priced as well!

  • 9. Good Vet - No Longer Accessible

    by: rjlupinskat

A good vet whom we'd used for many years, particularly for the horses. However, with his new position as State Vet for the horse racing tracks, it is nearly impossible to ever get a hold of him, particularly in an emergency. There are very few equine veterinary practioners in the area.\r\n\r\nQuality vet, but no longer available for the most part. At least with regard to equine practice.

    Pros

Knowledgeable in Canine, Equine & Feline

    Cons

No Longer Accessible most of the time

    by: stacyrenae

Dr. Nichols has always treated our famiy's pets just like his own. In fact, several of them were his own. We have had the pleasure of providing homes for 4 of his Red and White Irish Setters. The latest puppy, Red, came to my parents after the recent loss of their oldest dog, Grady. He was only six years old, but he died of unexpected heart complications. About four days after Grady's death, Mitzi called my mother and asked her if she would like to have another pup. My parents, who didn't think they would be ready to have another dog anytime soon, have already fallen in love with Red. He is helping to fill the void left by a beloved dog. Many, many thanks to Dr. Nichols and his staff for providing more that just medical care.

    Pros

    Dr. Nichols and Mitzi

    Cons

    Dr. Nichols' availability

    by: adstone4

We have a yellow lab, Mason, who was having problems with his hind legs. He was a very fun-loving and active dog and it was impossible to keep him from running, jumping and playing. We started noticing, when he was about four years old, his back legs quivering after he would run and sometimes he would limp as if his legs were hurting. We had been taking him to another area vet for routine shots and check-ups so we scheduled an appointment with this vet to have him check Mason out. He told us that Mason had hip dysplasia and would need to take an expensive medication ($60 a month) that he would have to write a prescription for and that we would get from him and that if that didn't work, Mason would need costly hip replacement surgery that would require that he be immobile for three months! We tried the medication for several months and Mason did not seem to be getting any better. This other vet told us that surgery would be the only thing that would make him any better. I just couldn't believe that Mason, being so young, would need this kind of surgery and trying to get him to be immobile for three months would be impossible. It just didn't feel right to me. So, we decided to get a second opinion from another vet. This is when we got several referrals for Dr. Nichols from from friends and family. On our first visit to see Dr. Nichols, he looked at Mason and knew right away that, although he did have mild hip dysplasia, which is common for this breed, that was not what was causing his hind leg problems and that he would not need surgery. Without even doing an x-ray he could tell that the limping and quivering was because of Mason's knees. His recommendation was to give him ibuprofen once or twice a day with his food. After only a couple of weeks the limping and quivering stopped and Mason was able to jump and run again at full speed! Not only was Dr. Nichols an insightful and impressive vet, but he was very nice and put us at ease over the health of our precious pup. His staff is also very nice and friendly every time we are in the office and we feel we can be sure that he is getting the love and care that he would get at home while he is there. I highly recommend Dr. Nichols to anyone who has a precious pet in the family!

    Pros

    Great vet and friendly staff
