While I applaud the care the people at H of O provide to animals, they need to work on their compassion toward people. I have a stray that I've tried to find a home for, for over a year. I'm an old lady whose husband just left her and I can no longer care for the dog. I was willing to be on a waiting list as long as was necessary, but the person there just said they can't help someone who's had the pet for more than 3 months. I guess that means all old people who have to give up their pets, or have other circumstances are just out of luck. It's a good place if you don't have any conditions that don't match perfectly with their expectations or you don't have unexpected things happen in your life.

The most caring and knowledgeable staff I ever encountered. I never saw such a group of dedicated people who take excellent care of ALL animals they have. They care about the homes the animals are given, also. The fact that they will take an animal back even after years in a home shows that the animals come first. We adopted a puppy from them, and they wanted to be sure she would have a good home. I appreciate their concern for helpless animals. I wish every shelter in the country could be half as good.

Animals healthy and obviously loved, VERY CLEAN

Weekly updates in the local papers help keep local attention on the work done on the behalf of these cats and dogs. Each article is amusingly written as a letter from the "resident of the week" reporting news from Haven of the Ozarks. This helps keep public attention on the needs of Haven of the Ozarks.

Rural area, I think cats and dogs generally prefer the openness.

A financially depressed area, making monetary contributions difficult.

haven of the ozarks has good shelters with dog houses in every pen and the bigger dogs have fields.\r\nthey dont kill their animals after 3 weeks just to make more room. once a dog or cat is in the shelter, they stay there until it dies naturally or gets adopted.\r\nhaven has a cat room inside and keeps all the pens clean. they name the dogs and cats get names when they come to the shelter.

take good care of animals, provide excellent shelter, DONT KILL THEIR ANIMALS
