  • 1. Wonderful Place for Good Kitties

    by: kimberlimhh

This is a very good place to adopt from and I am very grateful that they exist in the Chicagoland area. There are a lot of kitties who need help and these wonderful people are there to provide it. They deserve all the support you can give them

    Pros

    Good hearts, good mission

    Cons

Small, but not really a "con" per se

  • 2. Very helpful

    by: kcc23

Provides another outlet for cats looking for homes when our small shelter cannot not house them. Also their highr foot traffic gives these cats a higher chance of being adopted.

    Pros

Very helpful to our small shelter

    Cons

    none

  • 3. This is a compassionate shelter willing to help out less fortunate shelters

    by: tdudis

Thanks to Jen and friends at Harmony House for arranging to take several of our cats that would have been very hard to place in rural central Illinois. They were very concerned about having appropriate medical records and healthy animals. We appreciate what they did for us!

    Pros

No kill, cageless, dedicated to cats,

    Cons

    None

    by: DawnS

I adopted, or should I say I was adopted, by Jenny (formerly Julianna) in January 2001. I looked at other shelters in the area for a few months (even one whose resident gave me ringworm). The first time I stepped in, I knew I'd be able to find my newest friend. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable about their residents (including their personalities and habits), which makes finding a new friend helpful. They're small, but I think that's part of what makes them so great. I'm looking forward to visiting them again to get Jenny a new brother or sister.

    Pros

    Extremely knowledgeable about their "residents"

    Cons

Too many residents to choose from

  • 6. Small, but caring no-kill shelter

    by: valmacher

Harmony House funded totally on donations and is operated by a small and devoted group of staff and volunteers.\n\nIt's a place where one person can make a difference if they want to help animals. They always need volunteers and people who love cats.\n\nThe staff and volunteers know that cats well, and celebrate every adoption, and treat every new house-member with care and compassion.

    Pros

A small and hard-working staff looks after shelter

    Cons

    Never enough space!

  • 7. The best Cat Shelter in Chicago

    by: linneab

I have been volunteering since 1981 and can personally attest to the care, sincerity and knowledge of everyone involved with this shelter. The cats we are able to help are well cared for, clean, as healthy as possible and make wonderful additions to their new homes. The staff, board and volunteers care deeply about their charges and do the best they possibly can to take care of the cats and find them new loving homes.

    Pros

The cats are healthy, well taken care of and socialized by dedicated staff and volunteers. The shelter is spotlessly clean and since it is cageless, the cats can be seen acting as normal cats.

    Cons

    None
