  • 1. Beautiful area

    by: singinteacher

I love this place! I take my pug every evening, as long as it's not too humid for him. On hotter days we can do a quick loop around, and when it's a bit cooler and drier, we can take a longer walk all the way around the loop. I took him inside the fenced in area, and all was well for awhile. Eventually, Ozzie saw something interesting on the other side of the gate, and my 6 lb. pug zipped right underneath. The fence is in the ground for the rest of the place, so I wish there was a better gate, so Ozzie could be leash free. I guess we'll have to wait until he's a big boy, or until he's better trained to come when I call (hey, he's only 3 months old!)

    Pros

Very Scenic, Many Paths of Varying Length

    Cons

    Big gap under the gate!

  • 2. great dog park

    by: jlbarnett2

I love this dog park because it seems a little more intimate than the one at twin lakes. One thing I don't like about it though is the gate to get in. There isn't a double gate, so you have to watch your dogs as people come in and out and make sure they don't get out. Also, the trails here are nice.

    Pros

    trails

    Cons

    small park

  • 3. Fun for everyone

    by: Eborcher

This park has something for everoyone. My daughters (human ones!) and I love to take their "sisters" there to run and play. We all love walking or running the trails and playing ball. Everyone walks away tired but happy!

    Pros

Easy to get to, plenty of parking, lots of room to run

    Cons

    none

  • 4. Small dog park

    by: dogsrsuper

This is a fun dog park. It isn't quite as popular as Twin Lakes, so I have found it to be empty the few times I've tried to go. For me, the point of going to the dog park is to let my dogs play with other dogs, not to just let them run around for exercise. I am probably just going at the wrong times! I do like that this park is completely fenced. It allows you to relax and not worry that your dog might run off.

    Pros

    completely fenced, water feature

    Cons

    none

  • 5. I like THE IDEA of dog parks, but...

    by: povereem

...for my nervous, cautious dog, they don't work well, and our experiences haven't been great. When we come in, Louis gets swarmed and he wigs out. Often, owners don't seem to respond when their dogs get out of hand. And our cool trainer has really warned us off of them.

    Pros

Fairly decent folks, and nice assortment of dogs, plus little lake and lots of area

    Cons

    Can be crowded

  • 6. Great Park!

    by: kas2b6

This area has seen a lot of (much needed) construction over the past year or so. There is so much more parking than there use to be. Our dogs love this park and it is very enjoyable for all of them (from our boxer to our yorkie). The only drawback is that it does get a little crowded on nice days (especially around the north area of the park)

    Pros

Fully fenced with a pond in the middle

    Cons

Off-leash area get a little crowded

  • 7. good location!

    by: cpenn

I like that there is a space for owners to sit down. But I think it sometimes leads owners to ignoring what their dog is doing. I am glad there's a pond and it's fenced in but too often people won't be paying any attention to what their dog is doing. Which I have seen leads to dogs potentially roughing up one another.

    Pros

    Small pond, fenced in

    Cons

    Not everyone watches their dog

  • 8. Nice place

    by: ubear10

I went to this dog park today and walked on the trail with my foster for socialization. I was very impressed with the trail and happy that they provided bags to pick up after the dogs. I was nice that in addition to the park itself there was a trail that we could walk on with access to the creek that runs a long the trail. When we were walking back however there was a dog on the inside of the dog park whose owner was not holding him back as he was aggressively barking at my foster dog as we were walking by. I know that this is not a reflection upon the dog park but owners should keep in mind that if they have their dog their for socialization that they should keep their dogs on a leash or if they are not sure how their dog may react to other dogs they should do the same. This is only a safety precaution for not only their dog but others. I would not let my foster of leash for this reason. Anyone going to the dog park should keep this in mind and correct their dog if they are acting in an ill manner.

    Pros

has a fence that keeps the dogs from getting out

    Cons

owners do not keep unruley dogs clse

  • 9. A nice area to walk with your dog.

    by: ozy

The Bear Creek trail passes through the Garth Nature area. The trail stretches from Oakland park in the east and Cosmo park in the west for almost 5 miles. The dog park is located almost half-way. I love walking this trail. The trees and vegetation along the trail could easily fool one into thinking they are far away from an urban area. But the fact is, the trail passes through some well developed areas of Columbia. Unfortunately, a section of the trail is now closed due to road extension project. It is unclear what will happen to the trail. I suspect the trail will go through a tunnel underneath the new major road.

    Pros

Close to home, a 5-mile trail right next to a fenced-in dog park

    Cons

The dog park is very small, and not as clean as Twin Lake park.

  • 10. Great!

    by: FutureMrsBrewer

I like the size of this dog park, and the fact that it's fully enclosed. We like to stay very near Riley, but if he gets a burst of energy and runs about, it is nice to know he is still very close to us. We had a great time there, and Riley is still pouting to go back!

    Pros

pond, lots of dogs, close to home

    Cons

    none

  • 11. Favorite place to frolic

    by: amaroqhope

The park is fantastic! The dogs love to run and play and swim with other dogs. My only problem is that I wish it were a little bigger because sometimes the park becomes so crowded with other people and their pets that all of the picnic tables are taken up and dogs are tripping over one another and people while trying to play.

    Pros

Swimming Pond, lots of other pets

    Cons

    Small Park

  • 12. open park

    by: mustangak

i like the park good place to let your dog go run and play a little messy due to the pond.i f u go around 4ish u get to see harry and chester the 2 great Pyrenees that are there almost every day

    Pros

open fenced in area with pond

    Cons

    kinda messy

  • 13. meeting place

    by: lausieckmana

Wonderful -- not very close to my house, but then nothing is! One of the local dog clubs meets here routinely and it is a great spot for that.

    Pros

    great dog club meeting place

    Cons

    none

  • 14. Small park

    by: Jarding135

I think this particular dog park is a pretty area, however my dog doesn't seem to enjoy it as much as a few of the others in town. Through my own observation owners tend to let their dogs do what ever they want and don't correct them for jumping on people or not playing nice. Maybe we've just went at bad times, but we prefer other parks.

    Pros

Water to play in, pretty area

    Cons

The area is too small, owners don't stay with their dogs

  • 15. Garth Leash Free Park

    by: zim122685

This is a wonderful place to take your animals and let them run and run until you have to carry them back to the car. There is a pond where Buddy, my oldest dog, first learned to swim.... park benches to sit on while the dogs play, and doggie pick up bags are supplied at the entrance...

    Pros

This park is fenced in COMPLETELY

    Cons

not everyone picks up after their dog, and sometimes the grass is too tall to walk through...

  • 16. Good park for dogs and people

    by: lbranham

My dogs of course cant wait to get to this place. Very few of the animals brought here are any problem at all. The lake here is great for water dogs, but a lot of dogs have gotten sick here (parasites and fungus mostly). We apparently are losing our park ranger, who was vigilent in keeping cars from getting broken in to. Two picnic tables make a comfortable place for human visitors, although a small shelter to keep out of the sun would be nice. Rarely do the dog bag dispensers go unfilled. All in all it has some problems but my dogs love it.

    Pros

    very convenient

    Cons

    questionalble water

  • 17. Garth Park

    by: lauriewpan1

Way too small . If there are more than 10 dogs, it seems like there is no place to sit and really not much area to walk around in.

    Pros

    no escape route

    Cons

too small, limited seating, parking lot close to road

  • 18. Nice Park...

    by: cveile

Overall a great park we enjoy taking our dogs to. Close to home...spacious and has a pond if your dog enjoys it. Our schnauzer pup first 'swam' there after seeing gall the big dogs jumping in. Was quite a site. A yellow lab friend of his tried to hel;p him get back to shore. He's never swam since :) I digress...I have no complaints about the park - other than some dogs there can b a little rough and their owners are not always watching their dogs. Not a fault of the park, but the one annoyance I find. Nice picnic tables for resting. Trails around are nice to take the dog on, too...

    Pros

Lots of space, nice pond for pups, fully fenced

    Cons

none that are the park's fault. Maybe more picnic tables

  • 19. Good location, good concept...

    by: sveile

We really enjoy taking our pets to the "dog park" and we enjoy visiting with other pet owners. What bothers me is when pet owners just turn their pets loose and don't keep track of them. I think park of being a responsible pet owner is to socialize with your pet, not just turn them loose. Also, there are bags supplied at the park for you to clean up after your pet...just because they poop off to the side, doesn't mean it's no longer your responsibility to clean it up! Everyone working together can keep the park clean and enjoyable!!!

    Pros

    Our pets love it!

    Cons

Owners who don't watch their animals.

  • 20. When the dogs need to run but I don't

    by: jeg4k4

This is a nice place to take our dogs when they need to run off some energy but we don't. The area is completely and well fenced in. One of my dogs loves to swim and the pond has nice gradual entry so that even my other dog, who doesn't like to swim, can wade in. It's not the biggest dog park in town but it's not tiny. I do wish some people would keep a better eye on their dogs and clean up when they poop, but that's true at every place where dogs are allowed off lead.

    Pros

    completely fenced in, swimming pond

    Cons

not much grass, people don't always clean up

  • 21. Dog Park

    by: CarlyMichele

My dog Dolly LOVES to go to the dog park. This one is kept pretty clean, but could be mowed more often in the summer time. I like that it is fenced in, and close to a trail to go walking on.

    Pros

    close to home

    Cons

    not mowed all the time

  • 22. Fun place for pets

    by: aomanda

My dogs really enjoy this dog park. They love swimming in the pond and I feel confident that they are safely confined to the area. Now, if we could just get people to clean up after their dogs...

    Pros

    Fully fenced

    Cons

    Crowded

  • 23. DIRTY DOGS

    by: gabbygale17

This is a great dog park. my dog loves to go here. i always know he will need a bath when we leave though. lots of dirt

    Pros

    Lots of dogs!

    Cons

    MUDDY!

  • 24. Love it!

    by: lisajtmo

We took my dog there about a year and a half ago to get her picture taken. She LOVED it. It was nice to be able to just let her run. Great park!

    Pros

    fenced

    Cons

    none

  • 25. We love this park!

    by: kagyq2

We love this park! It's the only one that is fully fenced so your dog can't get out, and the lake is pretty clean and has a gradual entry, so my dog likes it. I also like the trails that surround the off-leash part so you can go walk on the trail and then enjoy some off-leash time after!

    Pros

    Fully fenced

    Cons

    needs a bit more shade

  • 26. The best in town

    by: Love4Mizzou

This is a nice dog park. It is the only one in town this is fully fenced in. There is a lake in the middle for swimming or fetching. On good weather days, there is never enough parking so you may have to park down the street and walk a block, but that's not a big deal. The place turns into a mud pit if it's been rainy so expect to get dirty.

    Pros

    Fully fenced, lake, free

    Cons

    Not enough parking
