  • 1. The give needy pets a 2nd chance at life

    by: CMacM

We found the newest member of our family here (Emmie). The staff was very friendly and very helpful. They kept in contact with us during the adoption process and I feel they fully investigate hopeful adoptive pet parents....a big plus in my eyes. 3 months after we adopted Emmie, they called to follow up on how she was doing - which again, impressed me greatly.

According to this posting, a friend of mine was denied the ability to adopt a pet because her husband had previously had cancer.

  • 3. Nice Place!

    by: booyah

Francisvale is working hard to make the lives of their animals safe, healthy, and enjoyable. There is construction for a new cat room, so that the cats can run loose and play. They have outdoor spots for the dogs to run, and the dogs are walked daily. The animals are all so extremely loveable, and from my visits and experiences, I can see that they are all loved! The place is kept clean, and Francisvale is going in a positive direction - all done for the animals!

    by: trueanimallover300

I recently fostered a dog from here and they were so helpful at matching me with the right foster dog to my current pet. My dog doesn't get along with every dog so we neede to be careful with the match. the staff were great and helpful. They also helped match the foster with an amazing family. Though we were sad to lose the foster we knew she went to an amazing home that was carefully screened and picked.\r\nThanks for caring.

  • 6. Awesome Place

    by: michellemay

I have been volunteering at Francisvale for over 6 months and it is the most rewarding work I have ever done. I work a fulltime, very stressfull corporate job and I look forward to my time at Francisvale. We may be a little short staffed and could always use volunteers but we do a wonderful job! We save many animals from other shelters that would put them down due to lack of space. Not us, we save them and give them great care and love while they stay with us. Our mission is to make their stay short and find them a great home. I volunteered in the past at another shelter where the staff resented the volunteers and they were not willing to assist the volunteers. Francisvale treats the volunteers wonderfully! The staff takes such great care of the animals and truly loves each and every pet that comes to us! I think it is important to know that I am not a longtime friend or relative of anyone at the shelter but I have come to respect and admire the staff and Executive director for the hard work they do everyday. It isn't an easy job but they do it with compassion and great care. Keep up the amazing work!

    Pros

Doing the right thing for the animals

    Cons

    We could use more volunteers...

  • 7. A charming little shelter

    by: delbin99

I visited Francisvale about a month ago and had a wonderful experience. It was not what I was expecting as far as what shelters normally look like. The property could definitely use a make over, but it has an old fashion appeal to it. The staff was very friendly and welcoming and you could tell how much they cared about the animals. While I was visiting, one of the dogs was going to a new home and the staff members were so excited about the departure. One of the staff members even had tears in her eyes. You don't always see that in the bigger shelters. They seem to have a real bond with the animals living there. I highly recommend going to visit if you are looking for a new family member.

    Pros

    a wide variety of animals

    Cons

the property could use an update

  • 8. Wonderfully cared for Animals

    by: tris

We have supported Francisvale for 22 years, and now do hands on volunteer care there weekly. The shelter is clean and well-organized. The animals show evidence of good care, and are comfortable in their interactions with us, showing evidence of frequent and loving handling.\nWe, over the years, have adopted 5 pets from Francisvale, and the staff was always helpful and educational. We love this place.

    Pros

    Loving care

    Cons

Could always use more support, as can any shelter.

  • 9. Dissapointing

    by: GHerbert

We tried adopting a kitten from Francisvale a little while back. I was informed that another couple had signed up for the kitten we wanted to adopt. I kept calling to see what was going on with the adoption after not hearing for a few weeks. It turns out, the kitten was adopted to another family. I was pretty upset!!

    Pros

    Loooove the cats!!

    Cons

    Outdated

  • 10. For the good of the animals

    by: Cdizzle

The new director Grace is doing a wonderful job of getting the animals adopted into loving homes. But don't worry, she and her excellent staff and volunteers are constantly opening their doors to new, furry faces, saving them from abuse, neglect, and euthanization. I really have to commend Francisvale for all of their hard work and dedication to the animals, and making Francisvale a great place. I really hope that they win this competition!

  • 14. Really Care about EVERY Animal in their care!!!

    by: ztT4MP57990165_DEAD

Francisvale goes above and beyond "the call of duty" when it comes to rescuing animals from both local shelters as well as from rescue groups from states as far away as Louisiana! They have created a very nurturing environment where neglected & sometimes abused dogs & cats can rest and regain their health as well as their faith in mankind. Lots of TLC, good food & love from staff and volunteers make Francisvale an ideal place from which to adopt your next pet. Francisvale has helped me find a home for a kitten when I could not find anyone to take her. I plan on going there for my next pet adoption.....what a fantastic place!!!

    Pros

    Friendly helpful staff, great pets!

    Cons

Somewhat limited hours, but not too bad. Call ahead!

  • 15. Just visited!

    by: kmp26

I have been looking for a very young kitten to share a home with me and my cat. Unfortunately, Francisvale's kittens are about 6 months old. My cat will only accept a really young cat, but I was invited to come back if they get any younger ones. Everyone was friendly, just very busy with many appointments. It was ok, I spent time with all of the cats! I fell in love with so many like Stevie and Sienna. I highly recommend saving a cat from Francisvale!

    Pros

Lots of friendly animals, close to home

    Cons

No very small kittens, short ceilings

  • 16. I trust this place

    by: kinglover

I volunteered at Francisvale for a while. I only stopped after my son was born - I don't have enough time now. I will be back, though! If I ever had to put my cat, King, up for adoption, I would bring him to Francisvale. I know how much the staff loves the animals, and Francisvale is the only place I know that "spoils" the animals with love the way I do at home with King.

    Pros

    current enviornment/animals/staff

    Cons

    drama from the past

  • 17. not so good

I recently adopted a dog from here who we found out was very sick. After a ton of vet visits and hundreds in vet bills he is doing well now. It's scary to know that the staff isn't taking care of these issues.

    Cons

    by: bobs

I recently moved to the local area, and was looking for a cat to adopt. I took the 2 minute drive to Francisvale and found my perfect match. The process was longer than I had wanted, because I wanted to take my cat home the day I first saw him! But Francisvale was very thorough, and made sure that Pat andI were a perfect match before releasing him. to me. Pat, named because he gets on the back of my chair and pats my head, is a perfect match for me and my family. Thank you to francisvale for matching me up with him!

    Pros

    great place

    Cons

  • 22. Seems nice...

    by: tarynscloset

I've visited Francisvale a couple times, now, and every time I've had a great experience. In fact, my 4 year old daughter and I have an appointment this weekend to go and pick up a cat. I'm going to let her choose, because they ahve so many really nice animals that I couldn't do it! The staff are all so friendly and seem very knowledgeable. I can't wait to add another member to our family this weekend!

    Pros

    Variety of animals

    Cons

    need more space

  • 23. Nothing but great stuff!

    by: blabbo

In today's society it's difficult to find reliable and trustworthy volunteers. I do a whole lot of work with nonprofits and see this first hand. I know from seeing Francisvale (where I adopted my dog, Cesar) that the employees and volunteers truly do care about the animals, and they do a wonderful job of caring for them. They are understaffed, and need some good volunteers. Once my latest blood drive is over, I'm going to put in some time with the shelter and try to give a little bit back to them in repayment for matching me and my husband up with the love of our lives!

    Pros

    Great staff and animals

    Cons

    In need of more volunteers!

  • 24. Visit Francisvale

    by: cleo3257

Francisvale is one of the best shelters that I have come across in the Philadelphia area. The animals there are happy and loveable. You can see it in their wagging tails and purring bellies. The director and staff has nothing but the best interest of the animals at heart.\r\n\r\nIf you are looking to adopt an animal come see for yourself.\r\nHours are by appointment only to give a potential adopter the staff's undivided attention. This allows the potential adopter to be able to spend quality time with the animals and have all their questions addressed during the appointment.\r\n\r\nFrancisvale is here to place animals in their perfect forever homes.\r\n

    Pros

    Loveable adoptable animals

    Cons

    none

  • 25. Striving!!!

    by: Kris821

Due to previous misguidance, Francisvale had to go into total revamp. Now with an excellent staff, board, volunteers, and trainers they are on the right track! The new direction is totally great for everyone most of all the animals. The animals are all healthy, eat high value food, the dogs are walked daily and take turns having play time in the runs. The cats have full run of their areas daily and along with the staff and volunteers that come to socialize the cats, get all the love and nurturing they need and want. I feel Francisvale is a wonderful place and their might be a lot of new and interesting things going on their but, its all for the good and wellbeing of the wonderful animals that call Francisvale home until that right person comes along to adopt them!!!

    Pros

Great animals, great staff, great all around enviroment!!

    Cons

Having to fix what previous employees didn't handle correctly!

  • 26. Francisvale is a great place to find your next best friend :)

    by: kkliamovich71

Francisvale is a small, not so well known ,shelter in Radnor,Pa. They have some wonderful cats and dogs up for adoption on a daily basis and have a very nice group of people working there. The staff is knowledgeable and caring and you can tell that they really love the animals and that the animals love them too! If you are looking for a new best friend I definitely recommend making the trip to Francisvale!

    Pros

Knowledgeable, caring staff, nice group of animals

    Cons

    Needs some updating

  • 27. Great Place for Animals!

    by: lafayearbook

Had I known about Francisvale, I would have brought my two cats there. When my daughter was born, she was deathly allergic to the cats, and as much as it pained me, we had to get rid of them. We made sure that they were kept together, and they went to a very nice home. Francisvale takes that guess work out of the process. They are very thorough with the adoption process, and make sure that every animal adopted goes to a home where they are a perfect match! Keep up the great work! When my daughter gets a little older, and when I have a bigger back yard, you can rest assured that Francisvale will be the only place I will go for a pet!

    Pros

The animals are very well cared for.

    Cons

    Need more volunteers!

  • 28. Francisvale has the best dogs and cats!

    by: gkelly623

Francisvale is a wonderful shelter with a fantatic staff who match animals with their new families very well. They have many different breeds and the place is always clean. The cats are so happy and comfortable and the dogs get multiple walks every day. It is a beautiful setting and you get personal attention during your pre-set appointment.

    Pros

Very healthy animals, many different breeds and ages

    Cons
