Father John's Animal house is a great place to work and also to adopt from. I have done both, worked for them for 6 years and have adopted 3 animals. Our staff is very caring and dedicated.\r\n\r\nThey go above and beyond. We are very lucky to have great volunteers.

Father John's is a wonderful place. We have a great group of employees and volunteers. They are willing to help out in any way necessary, fostering animals that are sick, or coming in at all hours to nurse animals back to health.\r\n\r\nThey attend and run all of the fundraisers that the shelter holds tthroughout the year. Even though we are small iin numbers we are big at heart.\r\n

  • 3. This shelter is awesome!

    by: CatsRule2664

I adopted a dog named Louie there. He was the sweetest dog I'd ever met! But the problem was, he was 50lbs, and my other dog, Coco is 10lbs. My mom was kind of scared about bringing a bigger dog into the house, because Coco is kind of mean towards other dogs. The shelter was nice and told us that we could foster him for 30 days, and if something went wrong, we could take him back. I've always wanted a big dog, and Louie was so perfect. Playful, but gentle, sweet and nice, listened to orders, and knew tricks. Except, he and Coco got along a little too well, and when she jumped on the couches and chairs, so would he. My mom was afraid he would break something, or hurt Coco, so we had to take him back. I was so upset, but I knew Louie would find another great home. And he did, he lives with an elderly couple that have grandchildren that love him, and I couldn't be happier for him. I volunteered at SCFA for a little, grooming the cats and bathing some puppies. The staff was so helpful and nice that I knew every animal there was in great care. This is a fantastic shelter, and I hope that when I'm older, I'll adopt another pet there again. Go SCFA!

    Pros

2 cat rooms: kittens and older felines, nice staff

    Cons

the dog's room is kind of dark, but they have an outside area so it's okay

    by: anniesmom

I have been volunteering at the shelter for a couple months and I must say that every time I have been there all the dogs are bathed and are very well taken care of. The staff care for the dogs and make them feel happy and loved until the animals find their forever home.

    Pros

The staff treat the animals as if they were their own.

    Cons

I don't believe there are any at the time.

  • 5. Lucky's friends

    by: lizimbro

I adopted my dog Harry aka Lucky after I saw him on petfinder and he reminded me of my deceased dog. We were very surprised to see such a caring shelter in our area. This was the first time I had adopted an adult dog. He was alot more work but worth every minute. I would recommend this shelter to anyone looking to adopt a pet.

    Pros

    great staff

    Cons

no cons except that shelters even need to exist in the first place

    by: ztT4MP35849224

Excellent. More people should be interested in saving our animals and spaying or neutering these pets to control the population. This is a no kill shelter and takes excellent care of these poor unwanted pets.

    Pros

    Excellent

    Cons

Would like it to be larger to accomodate more pets

  • 9. A wonderful place

    by: SueOrsulak

Scfa animal shelter is a place that I am happy to go to every day...I feel that I am lucky to say that I love my job. It gets a little nutty but I am very licky to have a staff that I know I can rely on and that I really trust with these animals.\r\n\r\nWe have a great volunteer base that will do almost anything. Whether they come in to do laundry, cuddle the cats walk the dogs. They help with the fundraisers and yard work.\r\n\r\nWe could not be where we are today if it were not for all of these wonderful dedicated people that enjoy our facility as much as we do.

    Pros

    great people, well loved animals

    Cons

  • 10. Perfect Adoption Experience!

    by: nor0305

We adopted three beautiful kittens from SCFA. We originally went in for two bu couldn't resist the third sibling ofthe litter. The staff was pleasant. I was evident that the volunteers truly enjoyed their part in providing love and care for all animals. For the short period of time that our kittens were at the facility, it was obvious that they had become part of the SCFA family. Perfect adoption process. Looking forward to possible future adoptions & making donations to the much needed cause.

    Pros

Knowledgeable staff, helpful in choosing right pet for family

    Cons

  • 11. what a great place.

    by: brittney

I have been involved with the shelter since my mom started working their 5+ years ago. Everyone that works at the shelter is great...very friendly...they care about the animals so much and they give it their all.\r\n\r\nThey have come such a long way, every animal is spayed/neutered before they leave (which is important) they are all vaccinated and most of all they are all loved for however long their stay is at the shelter. Which is sometimes more love than these animals have seen in their whole lives.\r\n\r\nI think they go above and beyond and if they were able to win a makeover...I know it would take stress off of all involved and they could better focus on the animals rather than worry about the fcility.\r\n\r\nKeep up the GREAT work and I hope that this dream does come true for them because they are truly deserving of it

    Pros

    helpful staff,clean facility

  • 12. SCFA - Just Like Home

    by: dolackd

Have worked/volunteered and adopted from SCFA during the course of the last five years. Staff is knowledgeable and caring. Animals completely vetted before going to their forever home. Clean facility with employees and volunteers ready to pitch in whenever necessary. Both dogs and cats are treated like family members while at SCFA. I recently adopted a Jack Russell "Terror" mix. I bring her to the shelter with me two or three times a week. She plays all day with her sister who was adopted by another employee. The shelter is her second home. She's happy, healthy and well socialized. She's known as "Lola - The Queen". She visits daily in the community cat room and kitten room, usually stopping by the litter boxes and food bowls before playing with our many cats. It's good for all of them, especially people who want a cat who has spent time around dogs. SCFA is a great place all around.\r\n

    Pros

Caring staff, animals well taken care of, clean facility

    Cons

Building in need of repairs and updating

  • 13. The best shelter

  • 14. Temporary home for well-loved pets

    by: Shellita1

I adopted my kitten from SCFA 6 years ago. The staff was friendly and caring then, just as it is now.\r\nMany changes at the shelter have been made for the better, always in the thought of making a better life for these animals while they are waiting for a forever home.\r\nI am comforted in the thought that for whatever reason an animal is brought here to stay for a while, it will be cared for as if it was their own family member. \r\nThe dogs get toys, bedding, vet care, love and attention, plus exercise, training, etc.\r\nThe cats are clean, happy, playful and secure.

    Pros

    clean, bright, well staffed, caring

    Cons

    no cons

  • 16. My work at the shelter.

    by: ex5s3

I haven't been at the animal shelter for very long, just since the summer of 2007. I knew that what I was signing up for wasn't just going to end up walking the animals, but rather cleaning the kennels and such. However, what I didn't expect, is when they asked me to take care of their weed problems! That was something unexpected. But I took up the job anyway seeing as none of the girls wanted to get dirty or anything. Ha ha.\nWell. My first day, I brought my clippers and weed whacker and got straight to work. Man did that place need a good cleaning outside. Started on the outside of the kennels, all over grown and such. Took care of that problem. Then the rest of the place.\nI must have spent DAYS working on the outside. Weed whacking, trimming everything, getting rid of the sumac bushes, weeding. What a mess. But by the time I was done with it all. The place looked 300% better. I even discovered a river out front! Ha ha! I unfortunately haven't been back there in a while due to things coming up and other circumstances. So the place will need a good make-over once again.\nWhat an amazing place. Gotta love it! :)

    Pros

Amazing, unique people. Fun all the time even when cleaning the kennels.

    Cons

    I really haven't seen any.

    by: julianjunkieembarq

The shelter is fun to visit. All the cats and dogs love\r\ntheir vistors and staff. All the cages and pens are cleaned and they even have two cat rooms that the cats can roam around in. Very much like a regular home enviroment so they can be easily placed in their forever homes.\r\n\r\nThey rely on donations and are not state, county or governmently funded. They have great fundraisers and they are always fun events. \r\n\r\nThe dogs have a wonderful fenced play yard and get\r\ndaily attention. They are always freshly bathed and groomed and vet checked. What a wonderful shelter.

    Pros

Great staff, Animals come first, Clean, Friendly

    Cons

    Shelter needs rehab.

  • 18. an awesome place to adopt a pet

    by: mojo

i adopted 2 dogs from this shelter and was very impressed with the employees knowledge of the dogs i adopted. their concerns about the dogs being a perfect fit for me was very high. they did an extensive background check on me and my ability to properly care for the dogs. i went to several different shelters and decided on adopting from SCFA because the employees were very concerned about the future welfare of their animals instead of "just getting another animal out of their building." i had spent an extensive amount of time talking to them and visiting their facility. i firmly believe that this shelter and it's employees are the best in the business. They always put the welfare of the animals above everything else. While speaking to the manager, it was brought to my attention that since their operation is run entirely on donations and that many of the major systems used to maintain the facility are in desperate need of repair that several employees agreed to take a pay cut so that the shelter would save some money and to help them fix up the environment the animals have to live in. i think that is a very commmendable act. i would recommend SCFA to anyone looking to adopt a pet or for those looking for a place to volunteer.

    Pros

    very friendly and knowledgeable staff

    Cons

the shelter facility needs to be updated

  • 19. cats are fat and happy!

    by: samsam

This shelter is spotless and the animals are extremely well cared for! The staff tries their very best to match the right pet with the right family. Every cat or dog that leaves the shelter to go to their new home, leaves fully vetted and spayed or neutered. Cats are rather "plump" as they lounge around the free roaming cat room. Dogs get to have a little fun in the big play yard outside.\r\nThis shelter really does a wonderful job!

    Pros

this shelter is a great place to adopt a new best friend!

    Cons

    none

  • 20. Safe Haven

    by: JackieS

When I came to the shelter in 2003, I had no idea how much this place would impact my life. Not only are the people working there caring and dedicated, but the animals are always happy to see you. The shelter mission is something that we all strive to accomplish: providing shelter, love, and medical care for helpless animals while they look for permanent homes.

    Pros

    healthy, good temperament animals

    Cons

    facility in need of rennovations

    by: 1mommao

I have adopted 3 three animals from SCFA since 2002 with each adoption it seems they have learned and evolved. I would not have adopted this many times if they were any other than pleasent, knowledgable, and understanding. Keep up the good work and if anyone is looking to adopt a pet I would highly recommend them.

    Pros

    thoughtful staff,great environment

    Cons

    could use a makeover

What a wonderful shelter. The staff and volunteers are\r\njust terrific. A happy environment with clean and contented\r\nanimals. They are just looking for their furever home. \r\n\r\nMy adoption process was professional and simple. I have a loving cat and would absolutely adopt from them again. Just a genuinely pleasurable experience!
