  • 1. Pet died 6 hours after surgery

    by: harrytaury

Our cat was diarrheal and vomiting in the morning. We took him to the clinic. They performed some tests and told us he had hookworms, then said since he was not neutered, they asked if we would let them do it. Also, even though they did not find positive results for viruses, they gave our cat vaccine shots. We asked if all these would be too much stress for an already sick cat. They said it would be ok. We trusted their professional judgment and went ahead with the treatment. We took our cat home after the operation. He was meowing as though he was stressed. His eyes were dilated and glassy. He was also drooling. He alternately walked weakly toward us as though he was pleading for our help, or curled up in the corner as though in pain. At 5:32 PM, our cat made two fearful loud meows and horribly gagged. He died soon after. Ironically, in spite of all the stressful procedures done, he was never treated for hookworms. They told us to delay administering the medicine until the evening. We never had the chance to give him the medicine he actually needed at the first place. Be careful what procedures you authorize in this clinic, whether it's for financial gain or simply because they follow routines blindly, they appear NOT to take into consideration a specific pet's condition when recommending invasive procedures. And whatever else you allow them to do to your pet, make sure it's the treatment that your pet actually needs and not what they push on you.

procedure-oriented; did not take into account specific pet conditions

    by: txdreamer

I worked at DRVC for 2 years and I came to know the staff and vets extremely well. I began taking my pets there when I started working there. \r\n\r\nAfter I had to leave for another job, I continued to take my pets there. I had to have my Bassett Hound put to sleep, due to intestinal cancer and they were so kind and helpful through this process. They have a wonderful cremation process that allows you to have your pet cremated and you can keep the ashes and choose an urn if you like. \r\n\r\nMy Missi had to have knee surgery and Dr. Custer was so amazing! He told me just what to expect and everything he said happened. I was prepared for her healing process and the questions I had were answered quickly and efficiently.\r\n\r\nDr. Jenna Hunter is my vet of choice there. She is AMAZING! Her bedside manner with the animals, of any kind, is unreal. She was meant for this job and she can tell you almost anything you want to know about your pet. And if she doesn't know the answer, she will find out and call you back ASAP. \r\n\r\nGive them a call! I promise you won't be disappointed!\r\n\r\nLori

I have been taking my pets to dolwen road vet centre since i was little. My mother took my first cat there when I was 6 and he had to be put to sleep. The week after he was euthanized we recieved a sympathy card in the mail. Around Christmas they sent us a holiday card. Now, 12 years later I still take my pets there. I have three dogs, a cat, and a turtle. The staff is wonderful and very helpful in making not only your pet feel safe and welcome but in making the pet owner feel safe and welcome. I walked my dog back to her kennel when she was being spayed. They showed me the room she would have the surgery in and explained every detail of the surgery to me. They called me when it was over to tell me she was okay. They frequently call to make sure there information is updated on the pets, they send post cards to remind me of upcomming appointments. I would not take my animals to any other doctors. The staff is very knowledgeable and has always answered any questions I have had. And on the VERY rare occasion they did not have the answer they made it a point to find out and let me know within hours. \r\nThe office is ALWAYS VERY clean when I go in. The staff is friendly and greats you as soon as you come in. I really believe that they want to make a difference in you and your pets life. \r\nI have not ever had an experience there that was not good. If your looking for people to love your pet as much as you do, Dowlen Road Vet, in Beaumont, Texas is the place to go. There friendly, knowledgeable, and will do anything to make you and your pet feel the up most comfort.

    Great Staff, Friendly, Clean.
