    by: againe23

We met Dog and Kitty City when my son was looking for a BSA Eagle project. The staff gave us a tour and we were able to meet their furry ones and see how well organized they are. Given that most of their dollars come from donations they do a lot with a little. The animals are well loved and we are lucky to have great people like the staff and volunteers at Dog and Kitty City.\n\n

    Pros

    Knowlegable and caring staff

    Cons

    none

I love Dog & Kitty City. Everyone there is so very helpful. You can tell they just love the animals they work with. They take such excellent care of all those pets.

    Cons

  • 3. Amazing!

    by: missmalice

It is such a wonderful facility, and it is no kill. Great staff, great animals (I had five cats on me at once) and just a really awesome shelter. I totally recommend it to everyone.

    Pros

Awesome shelter, they let their cats just roam

    Cons

    Could use a makeover.

  • 4. A shelter to dedicate yourself to

    by: cristinanicolae

My husband and I are volunteers at Dog & Kitty City and we wish we could be there all the time. We feel at home there because all those people care even more than we do about animals. \n\nThe animals are sweet and funny, with their stories and their quirks, and most of them are very happy to socialize with people. You just can't pick a favorite because all of them are lovely.\n\nThey take care of animals with incurable diseases and some of them even get adopted. Other shelters would just put them to death, but DKC staff do everything they can to give them a good life, including costly surgery. \n\nIt's a place full of love and we always leave from there mentally refreshed.

    Pros

no-kill, great staff, clean, care for all animals

    Cons

    nothing

I am so happy to hear about this no-kill shelter in Dallas. There are so few of you around these parts that it's wonderful to find you.

    Pros

a place that cares for animals in Texas

    Cons

    haven't been there yet

  • 7. I love DKC

    by: jbayer327

I've volunteered here for about four years now. If you love cats this is the place for you. The thing I like best about the shelter is that the cats are not caged, they are allowed to roam freely and are therefore a lot more loving than the typical shelter cat. Plus, it's a no-kill shelter which is an added bonus.

    Pros

    Set-up of the shelter

    Cons

    Need more volunteers!

  • 8. Great No Kill shelter!!

This is a great shelter, but I believe it is time for a makeover and to add some space for all the animals they save and find homes for!!

    Pros

    No Kill Shelter!!

    Cons

Too many animals, not enough space

  • 9. No-Kill

    by: randyt68

The shelter has some wonderful people who both work and volunteer there. They do everything in their power to make sure the animals are healthy and well cared for. I also volunteer and foster for them. \r\n\r\nThe downside is that the shelter is very old. Though the dog runs are covered, there is a gap between the top of the fence and the roof. It desperately needs to be upgraded to better living conditions of the animals. \r\n\r\nI have fostered both dogs and cats for them and will continue to do so.

    Pros

    Wonderful people and animals

    Cons

    The shelter is very old

  • 11. Pet Service

    by: Alexandria

They are a great no kill sheltter who adore anything that comes their way. They have great customer services, a knowledgeable staff, but not the best shelter. I voluteer there with my freshman leadership class and can personaly say that this shelter needs a make over like no other. They are so caring to our communitie's stray animals, so we should return the favor by winning them the make over. It is an amaixing shelter and deserves this win! :)

    Pros

    They are close

    Cons

    Their facility smells

  • 12. Shelter with a Heart

    by: susanp

This is truly a no-kill shelter, and the animals here are well cared for. There are some long-term residents who are particularly hard to place, but they are assured of safety and care, even if they never find a family of their own (but hopefully they will!). Volunteers do what they can to try to find homes for all the dogs and cats. The biggest problem with this shelter is that it really needs more funding, more volunteer development, and more exposure, but they do the best they can with what they have, and really care about the animals.

    Pros

    Really dedicated staff and volunteers

    Cons

A bit messy and in need of a makeover

  • 13. :)

    Pros

    No kill, clean, neat

    Cons

    The place is a dump!

    Cons

  • 16. So helpful to so many!

    by: manuntd10

This is one of the best places to volunteer your time to. My friend in Dallas took me here and we had a lot of fun playing with the cats and dogs. If they had some more volunteers and some more money then i could become one of the top shelters in the nation.

    Pros

No kill shelter and has a great staff

    Cons

has a bad smell to it

  • 19. a great shelter

  • 23. Dog and Kitty City

    by: klf7

Dog and Kitty City is a shelter with a good heart. The majority of the staff is completely dedicated, which was first demonstrated to me when one woman knew the name of all of the several hundred cats. It is sad that a shelter with such good intentions has little funding to help the animals.

    Pros

    the staff actually cares

    Cons

    lack of funding limits abilities

  • 24. no kill

    by: jduchette

There is so much devotion at places like this. They all need help to expand their services. \r\n\r\nI wish that all animals could be so lucky to have help like this. We have so much power to help. I am so happy that no kill shelters are out there. \r\n\r\nI wish more people would look into a no kill shelter for a pet or any shelter for a pet before going to a pet store!

    Pros

    no kill

    Cons

    none

  • 25. Wonderful

    by: Claud

DKC is a wonderful place to do volunteer work. The staff is very knowledge and loving with the dogs and cats. The volunteers are all like family. The shelter make over would allow DKC to do some much more for our furry friends. Please support DKC. We need your help.

    Pros

    Great Staff & Great Volunteers

    Cons

    Building too Old and outdated

  • 26. DKc

    by: TexasBoy6

Dog and Kitty City is a great place to volunteer your time to. It is a no kill shelter and has a very kind staff that can help you with anything.

    Pros

Great no kill shelter for both cats and dogs

    Cons

    Has a bad smell

  • 28. Dedicated Staff

    by: cveliot

The staff who work here deserve a medal for consistantly working to keep this place going. The place is jammed with both cats and dogs and the staff do everything they can to keep it clean and the animals healthy even though there are insufficient funds to do this.\nThe shelter building is extremely old and needs updating.\nMany of the animals are long-term residents and there is definitely the sense that this is home for them.\n

    Pros

Staff, the number of animals who are sheltered there

    Cons

Too many animals for size of shelter, extrememly limited resources

  • 29. dog and kitty city

  • 30. wonderful!

    by: martishaybaby

i love that this shelter is no kill and doesnt threaten any of the animals who live there. if it was cleaned up a little, and had a little bit more help from the community things would run alot smoother!

    Pros

    no kill,

    Cons

    messy

  • 31. Socialization

    by: Margaret348

Pet lovers are encouraged to hold and talk with the dogs and cats. A young group of students are dependable participants in the socialization process.\r\n\r\nMy Casey looked at my two year old when she hissed at him as if to say to her, "What is your problem"? He is a lap cat and gets along with all members of my family. I believe it is due to the tender loving care and socialization from Dog & Kitty City workers and volunteers.\r\n\r\nI am a new volunteeer and hope I do as well.

    Pros

Great Staff, socialized dogs and cats.

    Cons

    Too crowded

  • 32. Great Shelter!!

    by: Covergirl0110

I found this shelter while doing some research about no-kill shelters in my community. It's hard not to get involved! The staff genuinely loves animals and wants to help, I wish I had the ability to give the support they truly need to continue to provide shelter for homeless animals.

    Pros

    clean, no kill

    Cons

    NOTHING!!

  • 33. Shelter with a heart for cats and dogs

    by: vincentandjanet

I volunteer for DKC and the staff is wonderful. This is a no-kill shelter that works tirelessly to find good homes for all the furry babies. Unfortunately, this shelter is doesn't get the exposure that other area shelters do, so their funding is very low. Help support DKC if you can.

    Pros

    helpful, caring staff

    Cons

lack of funding - needs support

  • 34. Fantastic staff!

    by: cwagner712

We got our 2 lovely doggies from this facility. I can't say enough for how well cared these dogs were! The volunteers and staff check back in on you to see how your transition is going, too. Please, if you can afford to donate, do so. They are definitely deserving of it!

    Pros

Fantastic staff, knowledgable, friendly, well cared for animals

    Cons

    none

    by: lucasrichter

Amazing shelter, it's no kill, and the staff knows their stuff.\r\nVolunteers are comitted individuals, and we all work together as a team to get the animals healthy and ready for their homes.\r\nThe main problem is how underfunded the shelter is.

    Pros

People love the animals, committed staff

    Cons

    underfunded, lots of cats
