  • 1. Very disappointing...

    by: AmStaffZen

First off, I want to state that the workers there seem very lazy, rude and unprofessional. Secondly, the animals kennels and cages were just gross. It was sad seeing all of the little puppies huddled up on a sticky concrete floor without any blankets or toys. They don't give any of the dogs blankets or toys. The cats in the adoption area looked sick with sinus issues and their eyes were full of yellow gunk. I know from a friend who volunteered there that they rarely even clean the water dishes. They just refill the bowls through the cage with a plant waterer. The animals were in desperate need of grooming, also. And, from another friend of mine, I was told they are much too strict. It's one thing to screen homes, but they're so picky that they wouldn't let her adopt a kitten because some tax forms were wrong and they didn't believe that she owned her own home. She even had vet references, and a nice income. Needless to say, they'd sooner put an animal down than give it to someone who would love it and take care of it the rest of it's life if you aren't perfect. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Honestly, I think the director should be replaced and the employees, too.

    Pros

    They screen homes first.....

    Cons

    Dirty,Rude,TOO Careful

I do not intend for this to be a bad review. There are a lot of really nice animals at this shelter. They also do pet of the week on the local news station (13-WSET) and this generates a lot of attention for animals that need homes. In fact, I saw an animal that I wanted to adopt there, but by the time I got there someone else had beat me to it. While I understand that many shelters are run by volunteers, they could use more help with their staff just like any shelter could I suppose. The front desk person did not seem helpful at times. She could not tell directions to get to the shelter and seemed unorganized and not up to date with some information at times. However, I really appreciate time that people put in to help with these animals and hope that more people will put in an effort to help. I also really wish that this shelter would join petfinder or some other adoption service to aid in their efforts to help find their animals homes.

As we are so close in distance, I wanted to write a review for you. It is hard work helping and saving animals but whenever a group forms, it means that there are some good hearts. Keep on with your goals as that is the only way success is achieved. I commend you for your efforts.
