This shelter is highly recommended. It's always clean and the staff is very curteous. I adopted from here in the past. The staff here is highly committed to the well being of all the animals that call this shelter a home. We're very lucky to have this great shelter in the Copper Country!

  • 3. My favorite place to go to share some love and affection

    by: jlvoght

I have gone to this shelter for years. I have adopted 2 pets from this shelter, and have had GREAT success with both of them. The staff is great, and very positive and helpful to the open community. I recently just adopted a kitty from there who was rescued by the shelter from a neglectful home. He is doing great in my home and is getting along excellent with my other pets. I also take part in all of the fund-raising projects for this shelter. I feel that donating money, time, and affection is what makes these animals healthly and important in our lives.

    Pros

    Clean, Safe, positive environment

    Cons

    NOTHING!!!

  • 4. Great and Friendly Place

    by: JBaumannINC

This shelter is a great place to go. It is a friendly environment and the staff is great. They still run on a paper system, which is a little out of date, but they are the best place to find all kinds of great pets.

    Pros

    Great Staff!

    Cons

    Needs technology update

  • 5. CCHS is a model shelter.

    by: mgmeyer

The facility -- relatively new -- is great. It features a well-designed area with several dog pens, a room full of interesting structures for cats, and an extensive network of wooded trails on which the animals can be exercised, and potential adopters can take dogs for walks. These trails even connect to some of the local cross-country ski / bicycle trails.\n\nCCHS has many dedicated volunteers who even take the time to train interested human youngsters in the art and science of caring for pets.\n\nI was very impressed with the careful attention to each pet's medical needs -- some of their dogs are on special diets; any medication or surgery (including, of course, spay/neutering) that is needed is provided so that pets can be happy and healthy. None of this burden is transmitted to folks who are adopting the pets. The staff takes the time to screen each applicant for responsibility and "pet-able lifestyle" before allowing a pet to leave.\n\nI adopted a dog from CCHS several months ago. She is a wonderful companion, and came to me in perfect health, temperament, and well-socialized thanks to CCHS.\n\nGreat Job!\n\n

    Pros

CCHS's pets are well cared-for -- both medically and in quality of life.

    Cons

They can only take so many pets!

I am a staff member at the Copper Country Humane Society and think it is great! The new facility is very nice and clean. We constantly get comments on how nice the facility is compared to other animal shelters, which is great! The dogs and cats are well cared for with places to play and trails for the dogs to walk on. I would recommend coming out to visit our shelter.

I've gone to CCHS a few times and know that someday I'll get a dog from there. I'm not ready for one quite yet, but the staff there thinks it's totally okay that I hang out and visit the animals. They are very open and willing to chat and answer questions. The animals are all happy and healthy and the building is clean and well maintained. I give it an A+++

I got both my cats from CCHS and will most likely get more. I go there quite a bit just to visit cats and walk dogs. The environment, even when busy with visitors and dogs barking, is still relaxing and inviting. The staff are always very friendly.

  • 12. Beautiful shelter

    by: CharliesMomma

CCHS is the best shelter I have visited. It is always clean and welcoming. The animals are well cared for. It is tucked into the beautiful Keweenaw forest and surrounded by nature trails - the dogs love walking along them and playing in the river. The animals are lucky to end up here because they are treated as beloved pets until they find real homes.

    Pros

Great location and facilities, incredible staff and volunteers!

    Cons

My husband won't let me adopt them all...

  • 13. Adoption Agency

    by: steviebelo

My wife and I have adopted 3 dogs from cchs and fostered many other animals as well, and we love this shelter. It is super clean and large enough to house there whole population of cats and dogs. It is not smelly like some animal shelters I have been to and the staff really knows what they are talking about when it comes to pets. The adoption prices are very reasonable considering they spay and neuter all animals that come threw their doors. The dogs and cats are vaccinated as well and treated for worms. So they are not even recouping all the neccessary funds needed for the cost of care. I would recommend this shelter to anyone who is interested in adoption of a cat or dog, and I have had a few friends and co-workers adopt form cchs and they have all had similar great experiences! 5 stars to this shelter.

    Pros

New facility with great staff & volunteers

  • 15. # 1 shelter cchs

    by: bitcheebelo

I have adopted 3 dogs from this shelter. A 4 yr old Lab mix, and 2 Bloodhounds. This is the cleanest well set up shelter I have ever been to. Right from the front door you are great with a great big smile in the reception area. The shelter manager Lindsay is so knowledgable about animals that you are taken aback at how much she cares for these animals. Everyone from staff to volunteers are curtious and helpful, willing to give you any information that they know or directing your questions to the correct person. The dog kennels are very clean and they have big kennels are have lots of room to run and play outside so you know the animals are being treated well. They also are located were there are woodsy trails so walking dogs is a must and enjoy the scenery. All dogs are spayed and Nuetered before they leave the shelter and they take the application process seriously. The animals at cchs are definatly well loved.

    Pros

    No other can compare

    Cons

    none
