The building is beautiful, a large facility. I was happy to see they had even rescued a few horses about two months ago and had them in their care.\r\n\r\nThey give a temporary home to many, many animals. more cats than dogs, however. So if you are looking for a dog, the selection isn't too big. But if you are looking for a cat, the selection is unsurpassable!! My good friend and I frequently go to the shelter to visit the animals there and give them a bit of company.\r\n\r\nI was impressed to see how many FIV+ cats they had, and it warms my heart that they are giving them a second chance at life, and not just putting them down. They take great care to keep FIV+ cats away from the general population.\r\n\r\nHowever, although the general population of cats doesn't get FIV, they may pick up a virus while there. I think this is hard to avoid when having so many cats in such a small place, so do not let it reflect on the shelter. But I would suggest to quarintene any new cats before mixing them with your current cats to keep them from catching anything.\r\n\r\n\r\nAll in all, this is a great place and they are doing such good work to save unwanted pets and help them to have a happy new life. Everyone deserves a second chance!!

Lots of cats, large facility, offers on-site health care to animals

Small cages for cats, some of the cats may have viruses.

  • 3. Satisfaction of being a foster home for CTHumaneSociety

    by: heidipowers

We are a foster home for the CT Humane society. We take in cats and kittens that come to the facility that may need an extended stay.\r\nWe have nursed kittens who were to young for adoption.\r\nWe have helped to rehabilitate both male and female cats who were injured, underwent surgery, and then needed a place for respite to heal.\r\nWe have taken in cats who just needed a change of venue, waiting too long in a cage for a forever friend.\r\nWe bring felines into our home, isolate them from our own animals for a quarantine period, and then try our best to socialize them into our daily living which includes 2 cats, 2 dogs, and 2 kids.\r\nOur children get all the benefits of helping animals, the humane society pays the bills, provides the feed, and we get the best deal of all - we get to love, care for, and provide a home to those who need it most!

a great facility with caring individuals who help homeless and injured animals

wish there was one in every town

A local humane society helping to meet the needs of animals in transition from the shelter to their forever home. I know my donations go to a good cause.

The Humane Society is a wonderful place to adopt a cat, dog or small animal. The staff is very helpful and they insist on spaying or neutering all animals...THANK YOU! I think all rescue groups should follow their lead! They make you answer questions that make you think...are you ready to take in this animal and give it a forever home...The animals have an army of volunteers that help give the animals the love and support they need while they are waiting for a forever home.

    clean and knowledge

must have whole family come to adopt

  • 6. Well Kept Place

    by: jadeicing

The people who work there care for the animals but lack alittle knowledge when it comes to rabbits. \r\n\r\nThe area for the dogs is spacious and you could see those caring for them cared for them.\r\n\r\nThe cats had nice little areas for them well away from the dogs.\r\n\r\n

    Nice staff clean and caring

    Small area for small animals
