    by: Bachw57

We adopted our oldest dog from this rescue shelter. If you live in the Katy area of Houston, and are considering to get a dog, please come visit this shelter. It is conveniently located off the Katy Freeway. They also bring their animals to the local PetSmart also. High School students who are trying to earn their community service, please volunteer at CAP. Very rewarding!

  • 5. Wonderful for Prospective Cat Owners

    by: Mittensmom

CAP is a wonderful nonprofit shelter. They are very clean, dedicated, and hardworking. I personally have adopted both of my cats from CAP and recommend them to everyone I know. They are always full to the bursting point with dogs, cats, and rodents of all ages, and I have never known them to turn an animal away.\r\n I do have a problem with the dogs, though. The space within the dog room is so small that they have to be taken outside to catch a glimpse of their personality. While it is impossible to learn the full depths of a dogs personality at first glance, it is especially difficult at CAP. There is very little room to socialize with the dogs outside, and the area is very close to a busy road in which small children and overly excited dogs could easy run out into.\r\n I myself have taken home two dogs from CAP in the last four years and returned both within a week. Both times it was a miscommunication between the staff and myself. The first dog was just to energetic for my lifestyle, and the second, which I tried three years later, was more aggressive then the staff led me to believe. The dog tore my shirt open with its teeth before I returned him. Granted the dog was four months old, and it is generally unlikely that an animal of that age would be traumatized enough to make it that violent, but the staff should not have allowed us to take him into a home with cats and small children when the previous owner had expressed concerns over the dog's behavior.\r\n All in all, I think CAP is a wonderful shelter to obtain a cat from. Their facilities are wonderful and very clean, and the staff is friendly and helpful for the most part, but I would suggest going to a rescue to find a dog instead.
