They have a very nice new shelter. They also have a great foster program, so they have high rate of adoptions and don't put a large percentage of animals to sleep.

    nice and new

Very nice shelter that I've had the opportunity to visit a few times (a major improvement over the old shelter). The layout is very organized - cats & kittens, puppies and dog each have their own separate areas within the building. They have living quarters for veterinary interns who provide medical and spay/neuter services. There's a large room for holding a variety of activities such a dog training classes.

    Has spay neuter clinic

I have adopted 3 dogs from the Charlottesville SPCA and I must say they are wonderful. A couple of years ago they raised the funds to build a huge new facility and have been able to become a no-kill shelter which I think is great. The staff is so helpful when you are trying to select a new pet. Their new facility is clean and state of the art.

no-kill, clean facility, great customer service

When I was 10 years old, I adopted my very first dog from the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA. Back then, the shelter was a tiny house with kennels attached to the back side. This was the legacy of Sally Meade. Even back then, the staff cared greatly for the animals they were trying to find homes for. As I have grown up (22 years later) I myself am involved with animal rescue. I have checked in with the SPCA from time to time and have watched them grow and evolve. They do a PHENOMINAL job at fund-raising. This has gave them the opportunity to build a wonderful new facility just behind the old one. My grandmother and mother have both continued to adopt animals from the SPCA and have had great experiences. This shelter is also now a no-kill facility which I think is amazing. Great work!

no kill facility, excellent fundraising, good match-making
